There are scenarios in which adding a bench guy like Bader makes sense, but given how horrifically awful the bat benches are, he just doesn't for this team. I'm not sure there's a single current bench player who even sniffs a .700 OPS.
Well as of now, the bare minimum of things to address between the draft and FA are one edge, one DL run stopper, one left tackle and one right tackle or center. Further down the list is Safety, maybe a RB and perhaps a WR.
I can't wait till we find out that Ben Johnson wanted the Chicago job, but the interest wasn't reciprocal and Chicago had already decided on McCarthy. Just a little extra kick in the nuts that Chicago sports likes to provide us every couple weeks.
This would be such a Cub move. They don't pony up for the elite rp, but they'll give a multi year deal to a guy who was mediocre 3 of the last 4 years rather than just sign Robertson to a 1 year deal.
Thoroughly enjoying that the Cubs are not going to flex their financial muscle and they're also not going to get all the extra picks and international cap space the "small" markets do. The worst of both worlds.
So obviously every RB benefits from a good OL, but Swift is a guy who would benefit even more because all he does is look to hit the homerun. He never just takes the 1 or 2 yards that are there. He causes an absurd amount of 2nd and 10+ scenarios. I'd love to dump him if they could without much of a cap hit.
