  1. 8 days until the trade deadline and the biggest name dealt so far has been Bryan Baker. That really just seems crazy to me and frankly it's really boring, but I have no idea how to fix it. If you push back the deadline a couple weeks you only get rentals for 6 weeks which seems like nothing. You move up the deadline then you have even more undecided teams and perhaps even less happening with trades. They're never going to get rid of the 100 WC slots now, so maybe this is just how it works now with the trade deadline being like NFL FA where all the action is in a 48 hour period. It just kind of ruins what was one of the most fun times of the year.
  2. Who hates Rea? He's a sufficient #5 who has had been forced to pitch at a level much higher than that. He shouldn't start a playoff game, but besides that he's been considerably better than expected.
  3. The problem is, thanks to Steele and Taillon being hurt, the rotation drops off a cliff after Shota and Boyd. Rea has been holding it together but the other 40% of the rotation is a dice roll at best.
  4. Going into tonight they were 2nd to last only ahead of Pittsburgh by 7 runs.
  5. Brown's peripherals are....... 10.26 K/9= That's good 2.92 BB/9= a bit high but pretty good 3.66 xFIP= that's solid to good 4.27 FIP= it's not awful 63.1% LOB= well that's 7-10% below where most pitcher sit 15.5 HR/FB%= That's quite high .363 babip= god damn that's high Hard hit%= 48.1% before tonight, god damn He's just giving up tons and tons of hard hit balls so you can't even call the babip or hr/fb% a fluke.
  6. Second fewest runs in MLB going into tonight, but have now put up a season high 12 runs on the Cubs.
  7. Not sure I'd agree. I think they're able to squeeze extra juice out of a lot of guys. The problem is that they're bringing in a lot of guys who aren't all that talented so getting extra out of them makes them serviceable rather than good.
  8. Brown had better not make another start this season and Jed had better be on the phones tonight finding a starter. I still think Brown can be a thing but the Cubs can't afford to deal with him right now.
  9. Kepley at #9, tf? Either BA thinks way way more about Kepley than I do, or they really dislike the Cub farm.
  10. A move I wish the Cubs had made.
  11. Suarez has hit 4 HRs in the last 1.5 games against the Cardinals, he's sitting at 35 now.
  12. With Jed it's almost always, whatever tier you're expecting, you need to realistically go down at least one tier and that's where Jed is shopping. Don't get me wrong, it's worked on a few occasions now especially with Shota and Boyd, but he almost never shops at the top of the market.
  13. I'm gonna keep doing it, It's absurd they've now held the Dodgers to 4 runs over 39 innings.
  14. Still don't think the Cub bullpen is a very high priority at the trade deadline unless it's a crazy arm like Clase/Jax/Miller.
  15. PCA with what looked like a flyout and it lands in the bleachers, crazy.
  16. 84 pitches through 6. I know they wont bring him back out, but I'd be real tempted.
  17. Dbacks looking like they're going to bury the Cardinal's season, up 9-0 after beating the Cardinals 7-3 yesterday.
  18. Please discover the plate discipline that made you exciting last year, thanks.
  19. I wonder if Wiggins could step into the bullpen right now and potentially be a lockdown guy? It wont happen because Horton and Brown will step into that role, but damn.
  20. Nah, that's just GM speak. He can't say, we badly need a top half of the rotation starting pitcher because if he isn't able to land one, he looks really stupid.
