  1. I have so little faith in a GM who so completely whiffed at the trade deadline that his RP acquisition had to become his SP acquisition because he so badly judged the market. The same GM who fumbled the numbers and put the cubs over the cap, something I've ever seen any other GM do.
  2. Far too optimistic
  3. Which would be reasonable if he hadn't come out and explicitly said he had to upgrade the rotation. He set those expectations so it's his own fault he's going to get dragged by fans and he's going to deserve all of it.
  4. Assuming Suarez and Valdez aren't realistic, they aren't, I think about the only exciting scenarios I can think of now would be like Bregman+ traded for pitcher or on the cheap side Okamoto + traded for pitcher.
  5. Boyd was coming off of about 60 innings showing he had clearly figured something out, which his peripherals supported, it was just a matter of health. Giolito has sucked the last 3 years and all he has going for him is he stays healthy.
  6. If they go after someone like Giolito I will be so pissed. Just an absolute waste of money who isn't an obvious upgrade over the top 5 starters and far more expensive than the current Cub 6 and 7 options.
  7. And potentially wrap yourself up in a 4 year deal for a guy who might not be better than any of Steele/Boyd/Horton/Taillon/Shota. Right now the Cubs are a worse team then they were when they ended 2025 and at this point I think there's very few realistic scenarios where you could say they will enter 2026 a better team.
  8. I mean, I feel like Gallen is also going to want a opt out after year 1 to establish 2025 was a fluke and sign a big contract. If so, I guess that puts the Cubs out on him too.
  9. Well there's only 2 pitchers left who I would consider to solidly be in the top 3 of the rotation if signed and neither has been linked to the Cubs in a long long time so back to searching for mediocrity I guess.
  10. I'm legit going to be shocked if we don't know the answer by lunch tomorrow.
  11. Rueben Bain Jr is a damn monster and I want him on the Bears some how.
  12. Did you actually want him?
  13. The Bulls are 1.5 point favorites at home against an 8-26 Pelicans team, That is how little people think of the Bulls.
  14. I mean hasn't the vibe always been, as he is he's more a mid rotation guy, but in the right pitch lab he has the stuff to be a front of the rotation guy?
  15. I said this in another thread, but I'm still baffled at the mass appeal of Brendan Donovan, yeah he's a solid 3 fWAR player which is a good player too have, but he's catching some hype like there's an all out bidding war going on for him. He's under control for 2 more years, is a career 119 wRC+ bat and while he can play multiple positions, he doesn't play them particularly well. There's value in that no questions asked, but I'm seeing rumored packages of like one of Lazaro Montes or Ryan Sloan and then Jurrangelo Cijntje on top of that. That's a top 30 prospect with top of the scale power, a top 50 prospect pitcher and another top 100 pitcher with significant ceiling, but also significant risk, on top of that. That's the kind of package teams should be giving up for like Joe Ryan, not Brendan Donovan.
  16. It was a fairly successful year for Illinois, but damn that Wisconsin loss haunts me.
  17. We're at the point where I almost feel like a deal has already been agreed upon and all parties have been asked to keep it a secret for a new year's eve evening or new year's day reveal. If not we're down to 36 hours to negotiate, agree to and do all the necessary filing/medical stuff before the deadline.
  18. I mean, we almost have to have a solid answer tomorrow
  19. Yates will be 39 on opening day and coming off of a bad season. He still misses bats but gives up a really high hr/fb and basically depends on extremely low babip.
  20. I get that Donovan is solid, but there's so many speculative articles out there that there's an outright bidding war for him and he's going to net a substantial return. I don't get why he is a guy you'd blow up your farm for.
  21. That almost feels like it can't be right. He has 3 days left to decide before the 24 hour window to get things completed prior to his deadline. If there haven't been an official offers, that's going to have to change in the next 12ish hours if they actually want any room to negotiation.
  22. Also, I really do loathe Collinsworth. Caleb puts up a huge game and his entire focus was on 3 throws he missed.
  23. Hot take, especially after last week, but I'd be on board with moving Moore to open up cap room if necessary. I'm quite high on what I've seen of Jahdae Walker and I think Burden+Rome+Walker is a completely respectable if not pretty good 1-3.
  24. 5 seconds left they probably go for 1 quick hit and then a 2nd play. 4 seconds left you only get 1 shot.
  25. Seriously horsefeathers this defense
