  1. The division is there for the taking, trying to sneak past a greatly weakened Brewer team and a Cardinal team coming off their worst season in decades is not exactly inspiring.
  2. Illinois fans just aren't allowed to have nice things. horsefeathers.
  3. I don't think you can go into 2024 with 3 tremendous question marks and lots of money invested into Manaea, Taillon and Smyly. If Talilon or Smyly wasn't around, yeah I'd be game, but you can't go into 2024 with 3 pitchers surrounded by that much uncertainty.
  4. The NL Central is just sitting there for the for the taking and meanwhile Jed is busy scouring Goodwill for bargain deals. We're at a point where there aren't a lot of realistic scenarios to make the Cubs a clear favorite in the NLC. They're going to have to hit on just about all their targeted players from here on out. This slow played offseason has turned Bellinger, who most viewed as not particularly wanting based on his demands just a month or two ago, to almost making Bellinger a necessity to keep this offseason afloat. it is possible Jed pulls a rabbit out of the hat, but the margin for error continues to shrink.
  5. It's talked about because many of us feel that keeping PCA around if you sign Bellinger is counter productive. You don't give Bellinger starting CFer money only to move him to 1B where you could get equal talent for a lot less money on the open market.
  6. Because you see what a similar player in Bryce Young has done in the NFL. He's also not better in all ways to Fields. Fields is bigger, faster, throws a better deep ball. Williams has better pocket awareness and actually works the middle of the field with slants and crossing routes. They both hold the ball too long looking for the big play. I think the jury is still out on whether or not Williams is better at presnap reads than Fields. That is definitely not one of Justin's strong points, but he is slowly improving on that at least.
  7. I'm at the point where I'd put the odds on likeliest scenario being that they go into 2024 as an equal or worse team than they finished 2023. There's far too many things that would have to go just right for me to realistically believe they're going to put together a team projected for 90 wins, like I think most of us thought was imminent after the Counsell signing. If they don't end up snagging Bellinger, then things are going to start getting real dark around here.
  8. Well if you look at Freeeman for an example, then an elite 1B is 27M annually.
  9. I don't think this happens. If he's hitting well enough mid season to get your a TOR pitcher, they're not going to subtract him from the line up and if he's not hitting to the point where you don't care if you lose him in your lineup, you aren't getting a TORP. Contending teams don't move big bats out of their lineup in the middle of the season.
  10. I believe Seiya has come out and said that he dislikes DHing.
  11. Rather disappointed the Cubs seem to have no interest in Yariel Rodriguez. I guess it's justified if they don't see him as a starter, but as a pen arm, he's electric.
  12. That's also why, keeping PCA would make no sense.
  13. Which is unfortunate because I rather wanted Staumont. That was the perfect kind of arm for them to turn around.
  14. Looks like Washington is out on Howell which adds another team's for the Bears to deal with if they decide to trade down. I wouldn't mind getting Terry McLaurin and the Bears's 2nd round pick on top of other things back.
  15. If I had to guess at this point, Getsy is about 90% chance to be gone, maybe even higher. As much as I hate to say it, Eberflus keeps it tight with Atlanta and beats GB, I think he likely hangs onto his gig. I think it's almost certain if the Bears win the last two. My only hope is that Poles weighs those 3 epic collapses very heavily to the point where he just doesn't care what happened last week or the next two weeks and his mind is already made up. I'd be pretty shocked if Poles is going anywhere at this point, especially with the 2023 draft really started to show some blossoming talent.
  16. While not a failure, Mahomes, Hurts, Lawrence, etc are all having much worse years than the previous one. It's a bit bizarre how many QBs are significantly underperforming their previous year's numbers.
  17. Drummond got the start tonight and oh my god that stat line. 39 minutes 11/13 FG 24 PTS 25 REB 1 AST 3 STL 2 BLK
  18. You take the risk, you just have to accept in your calculations that you likely aren't getting a season as good as last year. So even after adding Bellinger back it doesn't cover what you lost in losing 2023 Bellinger performance and additions need to be made taking this into account.
  19. Say he's at least a neutral defense CF through the first 4 years of a 7 year deal. I'm pretty ok with him spending the last 3 in either a COF or 1B spot.
  20. Remember he missed 32 games though. he played at 5.1 fWAR/162 pace.
  21. No, but then again the vast majority of GMs don't wait to make their first moves until January.
  22. Has anyone confirmed Jed Hoyer is indeed still alive?
  23. So even if we ignore, what was a pretty bad INT by Fields, I think he was merely solid to good. Against a team as bad as Arizona, that's kind of disappointing. I suppose I should figure in that Moore was pretty much a decoy today and Kmet missed 2 and a half quarters. Even so, it just kind of felt OK.
  24. Jacksonville in free fall and they've got Carolina next week. I was worried Carolina might beat Tampa, but Tampa is playing far better football right now than Jacksonville.
  25. Not sure I agree with that throw, but it worked out.
