I'm not sure that team is even better than the 2023 Cubs. 2024 Bellinger is likely worse than 2023 Bellinger. There's a pretty significant chance that Imanaga is worse than Stroman. Belt/Busch would be hard pressed not to be an upgrade over the 2023 1B, but does it exceed the previous 2 subtractions? I'm not sure that it does. Side note, I have almost no interest in Neris for the money he is probably going to get. You could probably get Robertson+Brasier for a few extra million a year and be far better off.

I know this, you cannot seriously claim you're trying to compete for a division title when 1/3 of your daily line up consists of PCA, Busch and madrigal. You have 2 guys who have no history of MLB performance and 1 guy who has a history of being, at best, a slightly below average hitter.

I hate to say it, but Jed would have to pull off a minor miracle to get this team up to where it needs to be if he misses on Bellinger at this point.

Beltre, Helton, and Mauer elected to HOF

The HoF continues to fail. Helton(54.9 fWAR) and Mauer(53.0) get in, meanwhile Andruw Jones(67.0), Chase Utley(61.6) and Gary Sheffield(62.1) fail to get in. Just another of many reasons I have no intention of ever visiting that place. -
Not Cub related, but MLB needs to take the Orioles from Angelos. It's an absolute embarrassment that they have a historically strong farm, while having several all-star to MVP quality players who haven't even hit arbitration yet and they just refuse to spend. I feel bad for the fans, when the owner just refuses to put any financial backing into a team that is on the verge of not only being a world series contender, but a favorite with a couple moves.

All I know is that if they trade the #1, it had better be for the '23 haul+at least another 1st and they stay in the top 10.

I absolutely believe that's true, the problem is that he's just maddeningly inconsistent.

I was reading an article that had suggested a Bears/Falcons swap with Fields headed out and Kyle Pitts coming to Chicago. If a third is the only thing on the table for Fields, I think I take that deal. Draft Williams and he has a ton of weapons with Moore, Kmet, Pitts and perhaps Odunze at #9.

I don't think Love is by any means bad and is probably still pretty good, but it's not like he's hitting a lot of tight windows on these throws. His WR separation is absolutely crazy. Whatever the scheme is that they're running up there will make a lot of QBs look very good.

If they're chasing a reliever with a bit of control, I want Hunter Harvey. He's under contract for 2 years, posted a 2.52 and 2.82 ERA the last 2 years and had a sub 2 BB/9 last year. Having him and Adbert would alleviate a lot of those BB concerns the pen had in 2022.

I figure Robertson is going to be around 12M, Neris should be in that neighborhood too. Based on that Stephenson got 11/M a year, you're probably looking at 7-10m for a good setup man.

I think he's more 7th inning guy, while the Cubs are, hopefully, shopping in the 8th/9th inning types.

He's not great, but he's a solid reliever. In 2022 he posted a 3.18 ERA and 3.89 xERA and in 2023 a 3.99ERA 3.33 xERA. I doubt he only has a 65.6% strand rate again in 2024, so he's probably a pretty solid bet for a mid 3's ERA.

I'd be shocked if they fought against this at all. This gives them the legal reason they need to let their star athlete play despite what is going on. I'd expect him to be playing immediately.

That's in a bubble where moving 1 space is a set non varying value. Some teams may have 1 QB significantly ahead of the rest. I'm certainly not advocating that there's any realism to the Infante tweet, but I also think you can get more than what you list as the high end.

I actually think that's a pretty good deal for Hader. it didn't really fit what the Cubs need to do, but it's not bad. Maybe that means Robertson can be had at like 1/12.
