  1. Just over 2 weeks until spring training games start and almost half the FA top 10 remain unsigned.
  2. Not sure what has happened to the 49er's defense, but if it doesn't get fixed, KC wins yet again.
  3. Based on post Counsell expectations, I don't know how anyone could vote it as anything but disappointing, Bellinger or not. If they miss on Bellinger/Chapman we then enter disaster territory.
  4. DL Hall has stuff, but doesn't stay healthy. I'd wager heavy money he's a reliever. Ortiz is a good defensive SS, but I'm not overly enthused with the bat. He's a safe floor, decent upside guy. Frankly I can't believe they couldn't get a better lead piece.
  5. I made my affinity for Harvey well known a dozen or so pages back. That would give the Cubs an absolutely fierce 7,8,9.
  6. Like a moth to the flame, any mention of Fields or Mervis will summon Kyle without fail.
  7. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/blake-weiman-676620?stats=splits-r-pitching-milb&season=2023
  8. Chapman and Bellinger likely provide pretty similar value, but what the Cubs need now is offensive production. You can't have Ian Happ being your #2 bat. Happ should be the 4th/5th best hitter in a really good offense.
  9. 28 years old, never seen any big league time and consistently carries a sub 9 K/9 and a very high HR/FB, He threw 24 innings against lefties last year and gave up 20H, 6ER, 3HR while striking out 25, sporting a 2.25 ERA and having a 1.07 WHIP. He's strictly a guy to throw against lefties as he had a 1.87 WHIP against righties in AAA last year across 40.0IP. This has got to be a pitch lab guy, because even his vs. lefties numbers were just OK in AAA.
  10. If Nabers/Odunze are gone I'd love to trade back to the mid teens. There's about half a dozen defensive guys in the 10-20 range I think are very similar value wise.
  11. I don't know if it's possible for me to care less about this Superbowl. It's the equivalent of a Dodgers/Astros World Series. There is no outcome I'll get any joy from.
  12. Lions putting it on the 49ers early.
  13. Underwhelming for sure, but if they add Bellinger it's okish I suppose. It really is a shame though, they had a chance to establish themselves as the clear cut power of the NL Central and instead they've chosen to ignore that opportunity.
  14. If they add Bellinger, I think they're around 87-88 wins, but there's going to be a good bit of variance with unknown quantities like Busch/Imanaga and possibly PCA.
  15. I know there really isn't a good answer, but man I feel gross going into 2024 with Wisdom/Madrigal at 3B.
  16. I absolutely hated the Horton pick the day of the draft. I was fully on team Brooks Lee with Cam Collier being my 2nd choice. The Shaw pick I was pretty OK with. I was kind of interested in Nimmala, but had nowhere near the investment I had in Brooks Lee.
  17. He's probably more a 3.5 ERA guy this year than anything close to what he was in 2023, but he should still be solid.
  18. Seeing as the general offseason chat thread is closed, I suppose this is as good a place as any. WIth Neris getting 9M, that brings them down to roughly 46M. You figure another roughly 6 million to save for in season trades at the deadline. That leaves them 40M left. Bellinger is probably 27 of that, leaving them with 13M. What do they spend it on? I kind of feel like a trade is coming because there's really no one that it makes a lot of sense to spend it on. They don't need more SP depth(Maeda/Paxton), They don't need more 1B/DH types (Belt/JDM).
  19. I'm pretty neutral on this. The contract was less than I expected him to get, but man I would rather have had Robertson for only 2M more.
  20. A DL guy, this is very much what I expected.
  21. They didn't have to do anything that extravagant. They could have added Brasier and Robertson for like 17M, which was 100% doable if they aren't going to address 3B.
  22. The Rangers also added Dave Robertson and the Dbacks retained Sewald. Meanwhile the Cubs have added a reliver who alternates between good and horrifically bad.
  23. Yes, why improve the part of the team that was the reason you missed the playoffs in the first place. Instead Jed will hope for internal improvement. It's the same stubbornness that caused him to not go out and get a reliever at the trade deadline. He may be able to create a farm, but I have severe doubts about Jed's ability to put together a team.
  24. well that was a missed opportunity
