  1. If the Bears do decide to move Fields, Desmond Ridder is making Atlanta's decision to move on very easy.
  2. We're between 5 to 6 weeks until pitchers and catchers report. I know there's technically a lot of FA available, but it really feels increasingly likely that they go in with a bunch of 3rd and 4th tier FA on 1 or 2 year deals and try to sneak into the playoffs.
  3. Maybe I missed it elsewhere, but it looks like Doug Kramer will start at center with Lucas Patrick to the IR.
  4. They're surprisingly comfy. It's a far better experience than the "L".
  5. Dodgers land Imanaga too and the rest of the league shouldn't even bother putting an offer in on Roki Sasaki when he comes over.
  6. The Dodgers did a few things. I was going to do a long stat filled post, but the short story is that Brasier's 4 seam fastball is awful(.389 wOBA in 2022). Even so, Boston had him using it more than any other pitch despite the fact that he actually had a dominant slider. When he went to LA, they drastically reduced how often he threw that 4 seam and incorporated a cutter which also became a dominant pitch. This gave him 2 dominant offerings and he could use the 4 seam to keep batters honest. So yes, the cutter was huge for him, but Boston used him entirely wrong as well. Correcting both of those things turned him into the dominant reliever that posted a .70 ERA and 2.48 FIP in his 38 2/3 innings with the Dodgers. He likely isn't sniffing that ERA again, but there's nothing to suggest that he isn't a guy who could post a sub 3.00 ERA again which is why there's so many teams in on him. I'm actually quite interested in him now even if it's a multi year deal.
  7. Illinois gave Purdue all they could handle but came up 5 points short. Still, it's a really good showing against the #1 team in the nation on their court.
  8. It's a far safer bet and if Imanaga really is getting into the 110M range, I'd rather pay the difference and go with the known commodity.
  9. Red Sox making Yoshida available is a bit interesting to me. I'm not interested in him at 4/72, but if Boston ate some cash he'd have some appeal as a lefty hitter the Cubs badly need. The coaches would have to get him to start elevating ball because a 54.6 GB% is way way too high unless you have 70 grade speed.
  10. The margin for error continues to shrink.
  11. The same JT O'Sullivan who laughs every time he calls Moore a WR #1. I watched the first 45 minutes and it's so ridiculously nitpicked, plus he clearly didn't watch the actual game because he got several things completely wrong.
  12. Young people care about the games. All of us old folk care about free agency and the draft, which the vast majority of young kids couldn't care the slightest about.
  13. There is already talk that Jayden Daniels is going top 5 and could leap both Maye and Williams. Unrelated, but with Amarius Mims declaring, my God is the draft loaded at tackle.
  14. From a fan perspective, not even a Cub fan perspective, this offseason has been awful. My 2 favorite times of the year are mid December to mid January because of free agency and the MLB Draft. This free agency has been the least enjoyable in my memory. We're about a week into January, 75% of the FA are still there, and we're hearing the same recycled things from writers for the last month without any new information. It has gotten to the point where even when the Cubs eventually do something, I'm just not going to particularly care.
  15. the only scenario I am 100% against is keeping Fields then using a day 1 or 2 pick on a QB
  16. Montez Sweat and Jaylon Johnson make the pro bowl. I'd expect Moore and Edwards to be backups.
  17. I know this, but it's also spreading out the risk. I also think it's incredibly safe to say MHJ or Nabers is a significant upgrade over Mooney and while a QB upgrade is worth more than a WR upgrade, that's why there's 3 more potential upgrades besides this.
  18. I'd rather throw 4 darts than 1. The QB can't be just a little better than Fields, they need to be significantly better to justify losing all those potential upgrades.
  19. Cam Ward is headed to the 2024 draft.
  20. If the rumored package is correct, you absolutely are. 2 1sts, a day 2 pick in '24 and a veteran on a good contract. Someone said 2 firsts in excess of '24 first, but I'd have a hard time believing that.
  21. Tommy, you might have to nudge Jed awake if you want that wish list to have any chance of coming to fruition.
  22. I'd rather upgrade 4 or 5 other positions, then have to rely on Williams being a significant upgrade over Fields.
  23. I don't think them taking a QB is the most likely scenario. It's not so much that Poles is infatuated with Fields, but that I think he's probably ok with Fields and would love the haul he can get for 1.1.
  24. Assuming the Bears trade the #1. The Bears would have 2 1sts in '25 and at least 2 2nds. They have enough draft capital to trade up for whatever QB they want if it became necessary. It's likely no one is as hyped as Williams, but I think that's an easy risk to take if the going price for '24 1.1 is anywhere near the rumors.
