  1. Resources don't matter if you don't use them. He left a team that has been better than the Cubs for the past half decade, have a top tier farm including a league MVP potential prospect locked up long term, and that farm will get even better should they decide to move on from Burnes and Adames.
  2. Already a thread
  3. The same way they got Seiya here
  4. I don't recall him being very good with SD when he was the GM
  5. Yes, but I severely doubt Glasnow is going to take much less than 25M a year.
  6. Didn't notice Mahle signed a 2 year deal with the Rangers. Pitching market thinning out.
  7. I'm finding it funny that what was my pessimistic offseason take a month+ ago was Glasnow, Hoskins, Candy and a pen arm. At this point, that's sounding rather optimistic.
  8. You know of any other top of the rotation arms for 2024 that aren't going to require huge prospect hauls or huge contracts?
  9. Like, I want to believe the Cubs aren't stupid enough to not take a division that is absolutely theirs to take, but all signs point to that they are that stupid.
  10. Not that I was particularly interested, but Jack Flaherty to Det
  11. it's not like the Cubs needed another top of the rotation pitcher, they'll just throw another 91mph fastball firing #5 on the mound and that golden defense will take care of everything else.
  12. Seems odd, considering I'm pretty sure he returned to baseball at least half a season before signing with the Cubs
  13. Wont matter, Cub fans are stupid. Do you not recall them chanting Trey Mancini's name last year?
  14. I wonder how many years it has been since the Cubs have gone this far into the offseason without making a major league contract deal?
  15. As I've said before, I think he's significantly better at sensing pocket pressure than Fields is. I think he's a better short passer than Fields. I think he throws a worse deep ball and he definitely doesn't have the athleticism and build of Fields, though he's by no means slow. I think there's a better than average shot he's a superior QB to Fields. My question is, by how much? I don't think he's at all this generational talent or must have 1.1 QB some people are making him out to be. If we're talking strictly based on talent, I'm not sure he's top 3 in this class. If they take him, I get it, but it's just not the direction I'd go with things unless Fields faceplants over the next 4 games and, with Cleveland up next, that is a distinct possibility.
  16. I have a hard time believing a guy like Jed, who has clearly put a high value on defense, is going to let Morel play 3B.
  17. 210ish I thought
  18. I'll believe they're going to roll with a 240-250M payroll when I see it.
  19. This is why I've been playing the Eyeore about this offseason from the beginning. Ricketts wont spend like a major market and Jed is happy to try and prove himself to be the smartest guy in the room rather than take the talent that is available.
  20. I wonder what it's like to have a team actively try to win rather than, with the help of some positive variance, sneak into the playoffs and catch fire at exactly the right time.
  21. Is anyone sure Jed is actually alive?
  22. Ah Fred, he was always good for the so and so player has an .877 OPS on Tuesdays, in day games, when facing left handed pitchers and the temperature is below 75°.
  23. Well, with Arizona sitting at #3 currently, there's not much room to trade back if MHJ is your guy. I mean you could try and bluff NE into thinking you're willing to trade past Arizona and bypass MHJ I suppose.
  24. I think the depressing part, for me, is not that I don't think Jed can and likely will put out a competitive team in 2024, but that I don't think he can put together a really exciting team unless there's names we don't know yet. They could reasonably put a team together with 87-88 win projections who might exceed that and put up 91-92 wins, but I don't see this team approaching the levels of the upper tier squads and I'm not sure that's going to change much in 2025 either. It's a team where even with a solid offseason, you're going to be by far the weakest likely NL division winner and in the NL East/West they might be projected to finish third. Going into the season being projected as maybe the 5th or 6th best team in the NL is just kind of ok.
  25. Random thought, but I think there's about a 0% chance Khalil Herbert is a Bear next year. They've finally realized his blocking is far too awful to put him out there. He only had 6 carries against the Vikings and on Sunday and he only had 3 against the Lions. Whether it comes via trade or simply being cut, I don't see him being rostered next year. Roschon is going to be your guy and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they re-sign Foreman on a 1 year deal.
