  1. We're going all out to win this year and need a pitcher, so yeah, we're gonna be interested in everyone with an arm. I wouldn't give up Gallagher and Vitters for Bedard. Gallagher and Colvin/Pie, or Vitters and Marshall/Hill possibly. He may not even be worth Gallagher straight up if Sean keeps up the pace till the break. Given the relative costs, I'd much prefer Burnett over Bedard, assuming we can't get Sabathia. Isn't Burnett just as much of a question mark as Bedard?
  2. Jesus. I don't even know what to think anymore. :( Maybe Veal will get the call to Iowa after all. Unfortunate circumstances to get a shot, but Veal has definitely turned it on the last few weeks.
  3. Wow! Look at the rest of the NL Central. That's unbelievable.
  4. I know he always threw with a low arm slot, but does it look lower than usual to anyone else? If so, that could explain his trouble locating pitches, and particularly his constant high fastball.
  5. Nah, I'll leave you guys to your own devices on this one. That could be a dangerous recommendation.
  6. It's sad to think that maybe he would have been fine if the organization had just accepted the fact that he was going to get a few bases stolen off of him.
  7. I'm not surprised - Lou is relatively solid when it comes to lineup selection. It's the whole in-game-decision part of managing that reveals his ineptitudes.
  8. I was too focused on the finally-beating-crummy-teams part to notice the other part.
  9. Wouldn't the ideal scenario be that he pitches his toucas off, doesn't allow a run for the remainder of the year (including playoffs), but loves the cubs so much that he doesn't opt out and then proceeds to give up zero runs the next two years, as well? :) AND hits 50 home runs, only to lose the pitcher's silver slugger award to Zambrano.
  10. I don't understand... how will we ever determine whether the Cubs or Padres are better?
  11. The article then goes on to speculate about who is available and focuses on Sabathia. I think it's becoming clear from all the rumors that we will be in the running for someone. Who and at what cost seem to be the only question. vance, I don't thinnk "at what cost" is going to play a part. Everything Hendry has done in the last 2 or so yrs, has been geared up to for a World Series run, which means, I expect Hendry is going into the deadline with a "blank check", so to speak, in terms of what he's willing to spend. The main question will be, who are the Cubs targetting. This certainly has the feel of a year - and a topline starter has the feel of a need - where we should go all out for a need, even if it's just for a few months.
  12. Just curious what Winn's deal looks like... doesn't he still have another year left at a relatively unreasonable rate?
  13. Well, it's pretty assumed around the league that they won't resign him. Maybe i'm jumping the gun, but I feel pretty confident in saying they won't agree with anything in the neighborhood of what CC's agent wants. I think that's a given at this point.
  14. Whatever you say, Lou.
  15. Not to mention the fact that he salves the defensive misadventures of Soriano in left and whatever the alternative would have been (Murton?) in right.
  16. Dusty will make sure to ride his Volquez horse right into the ground.
  17. Who's the girl second from the left? I was gonna bring this up as well. I think she does promotions for the Cubs. Last year when I sat behind home plate and they were letting kids onto the field before the game to take pictures, she was there. I couldn't take my eyes off of her, she was gorgeous. Only saw her once and never forgot. Creepy? Maybe. But I'm a man, and I know hotness when I see it She must look a lot better in person... :ninja:
  18. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerry_Wood My faith in wikipedia is forever shaken...
  19. I hope some of you are preparing your resumes to send to the Cubs scouting department. Look, I'm not one of those all-things-Cubs apologists, but good God. Can we let these KIDS play a game or two before deciding they aren't worth the paper their first professional contracts will be signed on?
  20. The Reds could be scary in a few years, but it's still a lot of things that have to happen at once. And Dusty is obviously not the guy to lead a young squad.
  21. Yeah, nobody is talking crap about him, to do what he's doing after three years off and with basically no minor league seasoning is astounding. But you gotta hit a ton of homeruns if you're going to be the best player in baseball with a .375 OBP. and only a .044 IsoD to boot. If he were hitting .350, that would be less of an issue, of course.
  22. ugh...That doesn't even make sense. Why would it even matter if he didn't learn how to pitch until he was 25? He was great last year. Hasn't he earned the right to have more than five starts to prove himself? Because he doesn't have the history to back up his success. If you have a guy who's been successful for 5-6 years, you have a lot more faith he can keep it up (like Sabathia). Hill was a pretty middling prospect until he turned 25. You're the one who compared him to Sabathia. I said why that was a poor comparison. Notwithstanding the fact that Hill could probably fit in one of Sabathia's pant legs...
  23. The Cubs described him as a first round talent in the original article. That's wonderful. If they can continue winning and get quailty kids for the far east and down south as well they can continue to build their farm system. I just love that we're tapping the Pacific Rim so much now.
  24. Maybe not as a starter, but he's still an AS at this point, don't you think?
  25. I love DeRo. oh my god...that is beautiful! :rotfl: I've generally enjoyed his interviews, but I didn't know he had THIS great of a sense of humor.
