  1. Thanks for those thorough thoughts, video. I guess 2009 will be an interesting year to watch Spears. Not so much make or break, but moreso just watching to see if it's worth, you know, watching.
  2. I tend to agree. Soriano is a trainwreck in terms of taking routes to balls, but why is that so much worse in RF than LF? Is it simply because in LF, a runner taking extra bases is coming toward you; whereas in RF, he's going away from you? I'm not saying I want Dunn (unless our CF had the craziest range in the league), just wondering why he can't be considered.
  3. Everybody hates NSBB. We're pretty full of ourselves. No its not that. We are just the biggest and most popular Cubs message board on the internet. Like all popular things, its cool to hate us. Yeah it is. There's about a half dozen posters on this board who are too full of themselves and give the forum a bad name. Yea, Meph is a real dick. Eh - I consider myself an outsider here, and I think the only reason people hate is because they like to throw stones at the top.
  4. Can we hope for lefty specialist...?
  5. It's gotta be RF. Of course, it would be nice if Fukudome simply upgraded his play.
  6. Unfortunately, that's what seals it for me with regards to Dawson.
  7. That's a long time from now, though. In a way, it's unfortunate that the tickets go on sale so close to the disappointment and so far from the event.
  8. I don't care for Gallagher being referred to as "AAAA junk."
  9. Very well-deserved. Votta had nice numbers, too, but it really isn't close.
  10. All right! A chance to see 36-year-old minor leaguers in Cubs uniforms! :yahoo:
  11. +1 :D) :D) :D) It would be the first time in history that the camera focused only on the announcers as they watch the game.
  12. Dude, he's clutch. In the FSL playoffs he went: 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 11 K. Shoulda started him over Dempster in game one. He's got Samardjizaitis. Just have to keep promoting him.
  13. Wasn't that Tracy Morgan? If it was, it was automatically hilarious.
  14. All I know is I wait patiently all year for October... so I can be enlightened by the magic that is Tim McCarver.
  15. This is true. What? Of course that's part of the equation. You think the players don't know the history? You think they don't want to be part of the team that FINALLY does it? Heck, DeRosa even said (on his blog?) after the playoffs that they wanted so badly to finally do it. Just because they individually haven't been around for 100 years doesn't mean it doesn't enter their minds.
  16. Wonder how Fukudome's elbow thingy problem plays into all of this? Will he transition as other Japanese players have after year one? Or is it difficult to do that, because who knows how his game has changed post-surgery (which is all we get to see)? It probably is nothing, but just tossing it out there.
  17. Lee with the highest OPS on the team? I just don't see that happening with the way he's trending. In fact, I think a lot of the hitters look as overly-optimistic as the pitchers look overly-pessimistic.
  18. care to elaborate? I think there was one website, or publication that compared Brendan Harris to Albert Pujols due to their minor league numbers. Well, and they both play baseball, breathe oxygen, have flesh, and I don't much care fer neither of 'em.
  19. I buttered him up. If that hadn't worked, I was going to switch to "Nivan from South Pasadena, CA" like you had suggested. Actually, Ben and I have emailed back and forth a few times on international prospects so he probably recognized me. (Just a heads up but he's really good about replying to emails.) You were already an excellent resource, Raisin, but it just keeps getting better.
  20. Unfortunately, that role is going to be taken by Kosuke Fukudome. He can be the 5th OF'r then. The new Daryl Ward.
  21. Tough start for basically all of the HWL and AFL Cubs. Yikes.
  22. Thinking seems to be a large part of his problem. I agree that he needs to be out there somewhere throwing. Not thinking.
  23. That's it, fire them all.
  24. He's definitely right that the construction of the team is part of the post-season problem. Namely, the fact that the team is constructed with him on it.
  25. Friends and family here in Ohio have been pretty kind. They know this year was heart-breaking. And they know if they weren't, I'd probably stab them in the neck.
