  1. IIRC, Vitters is moving up in time for Peoria's game at Wrigley.
  2. Hope Donnie can get back on track and string together a few solid outings.
  3. A lot of people will be excited about that Harden / Johnson match-up ? LMAO...I never really connected the dots between "Johnson" and "Unit" before...I desperately tried not to...
  4. I also thought I read Suarez was out all year. Good see some more success from Chen.
  5. Dang. That is really sad. Speaking of young guys and TJ, is that what Huseby had?
  6. The Cubs should have taken Johan Santana in that one Rule V draft that he was in. Or, if they picked behind the team that picked him, they should have traded $50k for him. I would be a super awesome GM.
  7. Any idea why they chose Daytona over Iowa? The extra day almost certainly helped. He's going to pitch tomorrow for Daytona, but would have had to wait until at least Friday for Iowa. Every extra day is important at this point because he still has a certain number of starters (probably around 4 I would say) where he has to show good control in order to be brought up, and it doesn't honestly really matter if the last 2 of those are with Iowa or the last 4 are. But giving him extra rest at this point does hurt, because it lengthens the timeframe. Not surprising that level doesn't matter much for Hill's situation.
  8. His arm slot has always been low, but it keeps getting lower. Either his mechanics are out of whack, or he's hurting. A DL stint is very much in order.
  9. If Dempster puts up a 200 inning, 3.30 ERA season this year, I just don't see 3/30 or 4/40 being enough to keep him.
  10. When we get Chad Fox back, it'll be like trading for a really old, crappy reliever.
  11. 81 mph changeup following a 97 mph fastball? That's nice.
  12. Cotts has performed admirably in Eyre's absence.
  13. Maybe he meant Rich Hill. :ninja:
  14. According to Scout, first round pick Andrew Cashner out of TCU will sign with the Cubs later this week. Not that it was in doubt, but it's still good to hear. Should move through the system quickly.
  15. What about the decreased revenue from having to scrap all those "Wait 'til Next Year" t-shirts...?
  16. He was busted juicing last year or the year before. I'm not saying that has anything to do with it... just thought it needed pointed out.
  17. Absolutely fabulous numbers, but why so few innings per start? Has he never been a starter before? I know they don't send young guys deep into games, but 4 innings per? That seems a bit slim.
  18. Nothing new. Said that to get Sabathia, you need motivation and prospects. the cubs have the motivation, but the mysterious "baseball people" dont think that they have the prospects. IDC what Olney says, if Hendry wants CC Sabathia, he will get him. I remember when the Cubs were not a match for the Red Sox and Nomar Garciaparra, because Boston either want a package around Andy Sisco, or Carlos Zambrano straight up, or a package that involved Matt Clement. And yet, the Cubs found a way---a complicated way---to get Nomar to Chicago. Seeing as Cleveland hasn't exactly put CC on the market, you can't really list the favorites, until he is available. I am proceeding under the assumption that Sabathia won't be available - even if the Indians consider themselves out of it - *until* it is made clear that he will reject a contract from them in the offseason, or they are not going to offer him a sign-able deal. I may have missed that coming out definitively, but until I hear it, I'm assuming they'll figure they can resign him and just take the picks if they can't.
  19. It would be nice to have him in AAA, though, in case the right deal for a Sabathia or Harden came along and required several young arms going back the other way. Garcia would be at least a tiny bit of insurance.
  20. They're only 4.5 games out. I'm not sure why people think they want to trade their best pitcher. I'm also not sure why we'd be willing to give up much of anything for a guy who has averaged 15 starts per season over the last four years. Beane was burned on the Giambi deal, and he hasn't let another player walk via FA since. If he doesn't think he can afford to resign him in the offseason, he'll be dealt, unless they're looking like strong WS contenders, and not just a borderline playoff team. Zito walked via FA. Obviously Beane hasn't gotten burned in that deal so far but he still let Zito walk. He had no intentions of tendering him as he wasn't good at the end. Not the same. And although anyone with half a brain could see Zito's pronounced decline, Beane still looks like a genius for that one.
  21. I wouldn't hate to see Fukudome stay in the lead off with Soriano hitting 2nd. That's assuming Soriano has to be near the top of the lineup for some as-of-yet-unstatistically-proven reason.
  22. WARP3 sounds like a very fast stat.
  23. I don't see Beane being particularly interested in Pie. Good defense, sure, but otherwise, doesn't seem his kind of player. Sure, I imagine he'd take him - but not as the centerpiece to a Harden deal. I think the first guy Beane would ask for is Gallagher.
  24. Why would the Brewers definitely not resign him? If they do that and their key starters stay healthy, they have one of the best rotations around. I'm leaning more and more to thinking that this is the Brewers' deal to make. I just hope Hendry isn't putting all of his focus into getting one player, as he seems wont to do, and then when that doesn't happen for whatever reason, he's left scrambling and the Cubs end up with crap at the deadline. And even if CubsGM is right that the Brewers wouldn't resign Sabathia, that doesn't mean they wouldn't pay a premium in prospects to get him - they would still get some very nice compensation when/if he walked.
