    It's mindboggling to me that anybody would be behind Miles at this point. ](*,) Agreed. That does not compute. That's like saying somebody was behind Neifi and Macias a few years ago. Blanco, maybe. Miles, no way.

    Unless a new labor agreement is signed before next season his cap number will be zero. Under the current agreement the cap expires after this year and next year (the last year under the current agreement) is uncapped.

    The Diamondbacks' pitching prospect will undergo TJS on Oct. 28. The team didn't say when he's expected to return, but I'd expect him to miss most, if not all, of 2010.

    Patterson was rushed beyond any dispute whatsoever. He was called up in 2001 after only about 2 1/2 seasons in the minors because the Cubs were unexpected contenders in 2001 and Don Baylor wanted him as a pinch runner because of his speed.

    Minor nitpick, but the Red Sox actually have two WS wins during that time (2004, 2007).

    I don't think it matters one way or the other. Lou is the hitting coach and the head coach. The other guy they hire will have to be subservient to him. I wonder if Jaramillo factored that into his decision? That should only be an issue for the first year of Jaramillo's three-year contract, since Lou is expected to retire at the end of the 2010 season. He'd be a carryover coach that the new manager would inherit, much like Dusty inherited Rothschild as pitching coach.

    Psh, but how does that make the 1982 Colts, the 1960 Cowboys, the 1942 Lions, the 1943 Cardinals, or the 1944 Carpets feel? :) The 1982 Colts and the 1960 Cowboys weren't truly winless, since they both had one tie, which counts as 1/2 win in the standings, and therefore they didn't have .000 winning percentages. The Cardinals/Carpets (officially Card-Pitts) deserve special dishonor for going winless two seasons in a row, even with two franchises combined in 1944.

    You know MLB is praying for this never to happen, it would be a ratings killer They'd love a Yankees-Dodgers matchup, though. They'd play the Joe Torre connection to death and beyond.

    I really don't get it either. He's been quite good in his time in Chicago. It was Dusty's fault. Dusty was a terrible manager and misused pitchers badly and as a result their poor performances reflected badly upon Rothschild and he received a lot of heat IIRC when they brought him back after Dusty was gone. I think there's still some people who fail to remember that the pitching woes of 2004-2006 were largely in part due to Dusty's management of the pitching staff, not Rothschild's coaching ability. I was one of those people who was upset when Lou asked for Rothschild back. Then the Cubs pitching was really good in 07 and it was obvious that it wasn't Rotshschild who was to blame for the bad pitching in the year or two prior. Dustty never wanted Larry in the first place; his preference would have been for Dick Pole to have been pitching coach instead of bench coach. Larry was basically forced on Dusty because he was in the middle of a multi-year contract (the only coach whose contract didn't expire at the end of the 2002 season). I remember reports that Dusty basically ignored what Larry had to say. He was really pitching coach in name only.

    LOL at that last part. Um, Lions? Eh, once in the entire history of the NFL is still kind of unheard of. The 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers say hi. One of my all-time favorite quotes came from that team. Head coach John McKay was asked what he thought of his team's execution, and his response was "I'm in favor of it."

    I was mentally prepared to lose this week, but despite having the suckiness that is Jake Delhomme filling in for Manning I won. It helped that Moreno had to share the load with Burkhalter tonight. I have to thank CubbieBum's parents for visiting this weekend and distracting him from remembering to pick up bye week replacements at defense and kicker. :D

    Yeah my parents were in town this week and I forgot I had to get a new kicker and defense. What I frequently do is draft a backup at either kicker or defense (whichever position my regular has an earlier bye week), then after that bye week drop the fill-in kicker or defense and pick up a fill-in at the other position. That strategy works unless both have the same bye week, as happened with you.

    I'm up by 14, but my opponent has Moreno tomorrow night against a poor San Diego run defense. If I win I don't give Delhomme any credit; it will be mainly due to my opponent not having a kicker or defense due to bye weeks. If I lose I expected to lose this week anyway with Manning on bye week.

    I may suffer my second loss in the NSBB league because of that. At least the Williams and Stewart Show is back.

    Breaking news: Jake Delhomme blows. Less than 10 points from him today could cost me this week's matchup. Good thing I have a REAL quarterback returning next week.

    I believe only one small-conference team is guaranteed a bid. I remember this discussion going on when BSU was undefeated last year (which seems like eons ago, being that we're 0-7, but anyway) and that's the way I think it goes. ND is factored in with the big boys so them getting in wouldn't keep both TCU and Boise out, but I believe only one of them can get in automatically. Boise was eligible last year I believe but since Utah was already in, Boise was not taken. That's my recollection from last year's Utah, BSU, & BSU discussions. Only one team from a non-BCS conference gets an automatic bid regardless of how many qualify. I remember there was a scenario where a second non-BCS team COULD get a bid (I think it had to do with how many second place teams from BCS conferences qualify), but it's not automatic.

    That's what I thought too. The question is whether his foot was on the base long enough. I didn't think it was, but that's a judgment call (similar to whether a receiver maintains possession long enough in football).
