  1. If Jim's asking Milwaukee for a player that they traded away, he really should be fired. I forgot that Hall was traded during the season.
  2. So we should expect that you won't get angry when Aaron Miles bobbles a grounder, because players are going to make errors, and we should just get over it, right? Why would he get mad? He's a Brewer's fan. Because Doug Melvin will have traded Ryan Braun to the Cubs in exchange for Miles. But then Hendry decided he wanted Bill Hall too, Melvin refused, and the deal fell through.
  3. And it was the Dodgers who actually did the routing.
  4. I think that was either 1970 or 71. My recollection is that Wrigley's letter was mainly to say that Leo Durocher was remaining as manager (there were many people calling for him to be fired at the time). At the end of the letter he said "P.S. I wish we had more team players like Ernie Banks."
  5. I'd consider that a successful offseason regardless of other moves.
  6. I'm glad he pointed out this is the LAST year of a one-year contract. :D
  7. Wow, I really stunk it up. Dead last, more than 100 points behind the next worst. If I'm going to be bad, may as well do it in style and be REALLY bad.
  8. He's definitely Ready. But he might not be prepared. :D
  9. Austin Collie looks like quite a steal for me. Gonzalez may have a hard time getting back in the starting lineup when he returns. Next week I have Jake Delhomme as my starting quarterback. Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in my ability to continue my winning streak.
  10. I had 82 points total from Manning and Collie. Nothing like getting double credit for two touchdowns. \:D/ Next week could be ugly for me with the Colts on bye week. Fortunately, with a 4-1 record I could afford a loss and still be in solid playoff position even if I drop out of first place.
  11. As I understand it, the second bankruptcy hurdle has to clear (no indication at all that it'll be a problem) and then the sale has to close financially. According to this cubs.com article the second bankruptcy proceeding should take place early this week and only last 24 hours. The deal is expected to be finalized by the end of this month.
  12. Three years in a row that the NL Central champion got swept out of the first round by the NL West champion. I think I see a pattern here.
  13. Which makes me a happy camper since I have Collie in both of my leagues and Peyton Manning in one of them. \:D/
  14. The previous year the As had a player named Allan Lewis who was also used exclusively as a pinch runner. Lewis, however, did have some plate appearances in other years. Today is the 90th anniversary of the Reds winning the World Series over the Black Sox.
  15. No, but he can play LF. :D
  16. do you have 3 fave teams in every sport? I believe he has 4 favorite NFL teams. No, just 3 (Bears, Colts, and Panthers). It's just the NFL and college sports (mainly basketball) that I have three teams. In baseball it's just the Cubs. For football I grew up North of Chicago through the start of high school, then I was living in Indiana when the Colts moved from Baltimore, and had moved to North Carolina when the Panthers started. For college sports I grew up an IU fan, then went to Ball State, then went to Kentucky for graduate school.
  17. The picture of Al Davis in the Raiders' logo reminds me a bit of Jack Nicholson.
  18. When looking at the rules for minor league eligibility I noticed one sentence in the rules thread that contradicts itself. The sentence for hitters says: "Players with more than 200 or more major league at-bats in a season are not eligible." The first part of the sentence says that more than 200 at-bats (and should that actually be plate appearances?) makes a player ineligible, while the second part says 200 or more. In other words, if a player has EXACTLY 200 ABs (or PAs if that's what was meant) the first part of the sentence implies he would still be minor league eligible but the second part indicates he would not. Clarification is needed. Similarly, for pitchers the wording indicates that 10 or more starts means ineligible. Is that what was intended, or did it mean more than 10 starts? I ask because Bud Norris had EXACTLY 10 starts this year. As currently worded that means he would not be eligible, but I want to confirm that is correct before I make my plans.
  19. For much of the year I would have put Russell Branyan in the surprising category, but by the end of the year he seemed to remember that he's Russell Branyan.
  20. Which is now less than a week away. The end is in sight.
  21. I didn't expect Dempster to repeat his 2008 season, but this year was better than I was expecting. I think it eases concerns that he was a one-year wonder, because this year was better than his previous career norms as a starter (going by recollection as opposed to actually looking up the numbers). It was a good enough season to make me think he's developed into a legitimate solid #2 starter, and I'll happily take that going forward.
  22. My favorite teams are #1 (Kentucky), #5 (Indiana), and #148 (Ball State).
  23. I wasn't last! \:D/ I was out of it so early this year I didn't even bother with my second half transactions.
  24. Unbelievable game. A perfect example of why baseball isn't dead to me just because the Cubs aren't in the postseason.
  25. Oh, and I added Collie as a free agent today, so hopefully I'll start getting double credit for some of Manning's TD passes. :D
