  1. I think finally being recovered from the wrist injury is the main reason. But I also remember reading that it was determined that his daughter's eye disease was misdiagnosed and that she may not lose her eyesight after all. Perhaps this removed a mental distraction and that an improved mental state of mind could also be contributing to his rebound.
  2. I'm getting close to thinking I need to start watching Cubs' games again. It will probably turn out to be wasted time.
  3. I wouldn't mind the guest conductor if they'd just do away with the interviews in the bottom of the 7th. Sitting through a minute or whatever it takes to sing wouldn't be so bad, but during the game I actually want the announcers to be talking about the game.
  4. Under, only because I'd expect him to be benched before having a chance to commit that many. I can watch all of the games I'm interested in this week. Panthers early Sunday afternoon, Bears late afternoon, and Colts Monday night.
  5. Ah, the joys of being an also-ran and not having to worry about injuries, using crappy pitchers to get 7 starts, etc. Not really.
  6. Perhaps because Andy and Garfield cartoonist Jim Davis both went to Ball State.
  7. The Aflac commercial with Yogi is definitely my favorite in the series, largely due to the duck's reactions.
  8. I think I could take a wild guess. I'm guessing he's a former Padres farmhand from Tennessee and played for Peoria this past year. :DAnd I guessed correctly.
  9. No, it's the BCS standings that doesn't start until later in the season. The AP poll has always been weekly from preseason on.
  10. I'd consider rebuilding before winning a championship to be inexcusable. It's been over a century. That's way, way, way too long. Going 4 or 5 years longer is not an option. They MUST find a way to go all out every year until it finally happens.
  11. Lewis will start.
  12. It's nice to have Adrian Peterson on your team when he rushes for 180 yards and 3 TDs. He alone scored only 0.17 points less than the 7 players my opponent has so far combined.
  13. 3-1 Tennessee at the end of 7. Huntsville tied the game in the top of the 7th but the Smokies came back and scored 2.
  14. Watch the Cubs play out the string, or watch meaningful football? Tough choice. OK, not really a tough choice.
  15. What's the Cubs' record on days when the Bears play the Sunday night opener? :D
  16. Definitely. I was even more interested in watching the Bears' final preseason game (the Denver game) than watching Cubs' games (of which I've watched exactly zero over the past week and a half or so). It says something when you're more interested in watching a game that doesn't count than one that does.
  17. to be fair, no big ten teams' boosters have the financial resources to match the money that the usc kids are making. every once in a while you'll get a team like the rays to be better than the yankees, but usually, the higher payroll will win out. Unless the higher payroll team is the Cubs.
  18. It goes back even further than that, to the time they let Jon Lieber continue pitching after a lengthy rain delay (shortly thereafter he needed TJS).
  19. Do you know the circumstances behind Jay Jackson's demotion to Daytona, and his subsequent promotion to Iowa for one start rather than returning to the Smokies for the playoffs? And if so, can you tell us without then having to shoot us? :D
  20. I can watch college football today, and there are two other NFL games I care about tomorrow (Colts and Panthers games). So although I'm anxious for the Bears' game to start, there's plenty of other football to whet the appetite until then. Meanwhile, it's been well over a week since I've watched a Cubs game.
  21. Same thing for me in another league. I'm in the semifinals, seeded #4 and playing #1. I have Wells on my team in that league. I'm trying to come from behind, and the last thing I needed was bad numbers from him today.
  22. northsidebaseball.com takes me to the new front page.
