  1. I actually planned to go see Cashner pitch, but in the business of the beginning of the school year I spaced out and didn't pay attention to when he was pitching. From the looks of it I didn't miss anything as far as he was concerned, but overall it looks like it was an exciting game. Maybe I'll get to one of the remaining games in the series.
  2. The Cubs could offer Gregg arbitration and, if he accepts, release him before his entire salary for the year becomes guaranteed (as the Padres did a few years ago with Todd Walker). They could even tell him that's what will happen to make it less likely that he'd accept.
  3. Wagner also reportedly demanded that the Red Sox guarantee that they will not offer him arbitration so a team wouldn't have to give up compensation to sign him.

    Week 20

Cosby was one of my favorite shows when it was on. I now own the series on DVD and am currently watching the 5th season.
  5. With the way he's been throwing, it's more important that Wandy is going 2X. You've mentioned that you'd rather face me in the playoffs than Adam. You could help make that happen by benching your entire team and conceding the week to me. :D
  6. Nah, his thought was original. I specified UNASSISTED triple play; he just specified triple play. :D
  7. His next start is against the Nationals, so he may be in line for another good one.
  8. Why? As a GM he traded Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano. No he didnt. To be more specific, Phillips was fired as Mets' GM about a year before the trade. Phillips was fired in June 2003; the trade was in June 2004.

    Week 20

I'd be happy for that to happen. If he rules that Norris wasn't eligible that should stand regardless of the direction of the adjustment. Speaking of Juan, do you know if he's on vacation or something? He hasn't posted here for nearly two weeks.

    Week 20

I thought for sure Hammel would get lit up. With a big lead at the point, I went into prevent mode and tried to stay away from a huge negative start like he had last time he was in my lineup. If I also went into prevent mode and stuck with 6 starts instead of seeing if I could get by with promoting Norris I would have won. I'm sure Adam won't let me forget that.
  11. Maybe that will be this offseason's theme: Players who can turn unassisted triple plays.
  12. Naturally, Smoltz returns to his Cy Young form in his Cardinals debut. Five scoreless innings, 3 hits, no walks, and 9 strikeouts. Does anybody still disbelieve the magic pixie dust theory?
  13. This one isn't on Dusty, but Harang is now out for the year due to an emergency appendectomy.

    Week 20

I've had three starting pitchers go on the DL in the past two days. One of them (Harang) is out for the year with an emergency appendectomy. And he's been pitching well lately. Ouch! :x
  15. Aaron Miles is the spoiled milk that makes the drink taste crappy.
  16. Even if the players believe they are out of contention they still need to play with effort. Roster spots and starting jobs for next year could be on the line. For example, if Soto starts hitting he could convince Lou that he deserves to be the undisputed starting catcher next year instead of sharing the job with Hill, as he seems to be now.

    Week 20

Especially considering that the start he had left on his bench was his second highest scoring start of the week. I'm certainly not trying to cheat (not that you accused me of cheating), but naturally with a tight playoff race we're both going to try to interpret any gray areas in our favor. I always thought when a player went on a major league DL you could replace him with a free agent or a player on your minor league roster. Then, once Norris was promoted to my major league roster, I believe that makes him fair game for using as one of my 7 starts. Am I right? I don't know. Tim thinks I am, you think I'm not. Once Juan sees this discussion he'll have to rule, and if he rules against me he can adjust the scoring; I won't complain if that's the case. But it certainly makes more sense to set my lineup this way than to assume I can't use him, leave him out of my lineup, and then find out later when it's too late that I could have used him.
  18. Tennessee 2, Carolina 0 in the bottom of the 4th. The start of the game was delayed by rain. Carpenter has given up 1 hit and 1 walk, with 2 strikeouts. He also doubled in Thomas for the second run (Thomas doubled in Colvin, who himself doubled, for the first run).
  19. Alfonso Soriano and Todd Hundley say hello. Hundley wasn't a Hendry signing - he was, I believe, a MacPhail signing. Either MacPhail or Ed Lynch. It was MacPhail. Lynch resigned as GM during the 2000 season. Hundley was signed after that season.
  20. Agreed. I think more than a century without a championship is slightly more of an important issue than whether there's a jumbotron.
  21. Woo-hoo! He's in the top 1,000!
  22. Also receiving votes in the AP poll: Oregon State 122, Illinois 105, Pittsburgh 103, Michigan State 100, Rutgers 83, Texas Tech 76, West Virginia 57, Cincinnati 44, Clemson 42, Miami (FL) 40, East Carolina 30, Tennessee 15, Arizona 13, North Carolina State 10, Boston College 9, Central Michigan 7, Auburn 7, UCLA 7, Northwestern 5, South Florida 3, Southern Miss 3, Vanderbilt 3, Missouri 3, South Carolina 2, Nevada 1, Arkansas 1, Houston 1, Troy 1, Tulsa 1.
  23. I think there's a high likelihood that he's already been placed on waivers, but if not I'd do so if nothing more than a feeler (they can always revoke the waivers if they don't want to trade him to a claiming team). I'm not sure that I'd actively try to trade him (assuming they're willing to pay to re-sign him during the off-season), but I'd certainly listen to offers.
  24. Then Lou should tell Soriano that he'll return to the starting lineup as soon as he agrees to use a lighter bat.
  25. I'm sure the ownership situation has been weighing on his mind as much as anybody else. Now that it's been resolved (pending the required approvals, which I don't see any problem with) it may seem like a breath of fresh air to him.
