  1. This reminds me of Oscar Robertson, although that's many years ago. For most of his career Robertson was with the Cincinnati Royals (now Sacramento Kings) and he was one of the biggest superstars in the history of the game, regularly averaging near or over 30 points per game and making the All-Star Game more than 10 years in a row, but his team never won a championship. Late in his career he's traded to the Milwaukee Bucks and he plays second fiddle to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. His first year on the team, the Bucks win the NBA title.
  2. Decent, yes. Pretty good, debatable. He had a 4.42 ERA, 1.505 WHIP, 108 Ks and 77 BBs in 183.1 IP.
  3. I wouldn't object to trading Marmol for Granderson (I consider Marmol good but not irreplaceable), but Castro stays.
  4. A reminder that, beginning this week, there are Thursday night games, so Survival Football picks must be made by then to avoid an automatic strike.
  5. North Carolina beat Florida International 88-72 tonight. This is the game Isiah Thomas originally threatened not to play because they were supposed to play THE Ohio State University instead.
  6. Mendenhall almost pulled it out for me tonight. If only he had a touchdown to go along with his 155 rushing yards.
  7. I'm not following the irony. Maybe "irony" wasn't the right word to use, but it's very unusual for somebody to play for someone they were once traded for.
  8. Who's this "Aaron Miles?" The only Miles associated with the Cubs is Bruce. :D
  9. Think of the irony. The player who was once traded for Lou Piniella may play for Lou.
  10. Thats why I prefer to think about it like this: In order for there to be any chance for Lovie to get the can the Bears can't do better than 5-12. The Bears play bad teams in the 49ers, Lions, and Rams. What are the chances we can blow two of those games? The rest is simple, but I worry we're just mediocre enough and Cutler is just good enough to will us a nice 7-9 record. I will bet you eleventy billion dollars that the Bears do not go 5-12 this year. Yeah, hard to make the playoffs with a 5-11 regular season record. :D
  11. That was true up until last year (except for the Thursday night opener). Early November Thursday night games started last year.
  12. Somebody has created fireloviesmith.com.
  13. There's also a California University in California, Pennsylvania.
  14. #22 Georgia Tech has to go overtime before defeating Div. II Indiana University of Pennsylvania 84-76 in an exhibition.
  15. Too bad the incompetent Bears fail to take advantage of the Packers losing to the Bucs. :(
  16. Left handed hitters was last year's flavor of the month. That's another one we can cross off the list along with: Played in a World Series Can catch the ball Need speedy top of the order hitters What am I forgetting? It must be the Dusty Dice. It seems as though it landed on "Need speedy top of the order hitters" again. I think the one you're forgetting is character. That seemed to be the theme following 2004 when trading Sosa seemed to be the entire offseason emphasis. That's what's re-surfacing this year with Bradley.
  17. Barring a monster game from Mendenhall tomorrow night it looks like my winning streak is over (it was bound to happen at some time). I should still be in first place based on total points.
  18. I always thought Crazy 08 would make a good ESPN mini-series, like they did with Bronx Burning a year or so ago.
  19. Crazy game. The East (the team with the Cubs) took a 7-0 lead in the top of the 1st, then being shut out the rest of the game while the West came back to win 8-7. Castro hit twice in the first, the blooper Truffle mentioned (he then scored) and he made the last out in the 1st. He had another hit later in the game, finishing 2 for 3 with a run scored. Parker pitched a scoreless 7th, with a hit allowed, a walk, a strikeout, and a wild pitch. He left with the East still leading 7-6, with the West scoring 2 runs in the 8th to win.
  20. I meant Crazy 08 when I said 1908; I got the title mixed up. I was writing my reply at the same time OMC was (he beat me by a few seconds).
  21. If you're into baseball history three I recommend are The Glory Of Their Times (generally considered one of the best baseball books ever; about the early years, told by players from that era), Wrigleyville (probably the most comprehensive history of the Cubs), and 1908 (the story of that season, focusing mainly, but not exclusively, on the Cubs).
  22. They are who we THOUGHT they are! AND WE LET THEM GET AWAY!
  23. I believe you can hold down the CTRL key while clicking to achieve this Or right-click on the link, then click on Open in New Tab or Open in New Window.
  24. "Indefinitely" means out for the season.
  25. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-diamondbacks-webb&prov=ap&type=lgns The D'Backs exercised Brandon Webb's $8.5 million option for next year. Had they chosen not to they would have had to pay a $2 million buyout.
