  1. The link in the opening post has been updated to report that Murton has been sold to a Japanese team.
  2. Go at it. It would be justifiable homicide. :D
  3. Yes, the tie-breaker is based on points.
  4. Bruce Sutter, Rollie Fingers and Satchel Paige. He did say STARTING pitchers. Sutter had exactly zero major league starts, and Fingers and Paige had few enough starts they weren't considered starting pitchers.
  5. Turnoverasaurus Rex sighting!
  6. Even under the old one-strike-and-out rule this year's contest would have gone on a lot longer than any previous year.
  7. I benched Rice to protect against an unlikely negative outing since all of my opponent's players have already played (or, in the case of Carney, sat).
  8. The #1 seed is mine, mine, mine! \:D/ Usually that's the kiss of death in my fantasy leagues, but I plan to tempt fate and show fate who's boss around here. :D
  9. why would he? Because Hill isn't very good? That's why he's a backup catcher. Backup catchers aren't very good or else they'd be starting catchers.
  10. According to the article I linked to he's replacing Neely, who will fill in for the games Enberg misses and take on other duties. Grant is returning.
  11. So who's our new whipping boy? In light of the ridiculous extension he was given I nominate Grabow.
  12. The Padres have named Dick Enberg as the lead announcer for baseball telecasts for 2010. He is expected to do 110 to 120 games, with current announcer Mark Neely filling in for the games Enberg misses.
  13. I think he will be eventually. Several previous commissioners have been inducted, and I think the good outweighs the bad during his tenure.
  14. I disagree. Anything short of at least winning a series in the playoffs, and maybe even making the World Series, and I think he's gone. Just getting back to the level of 2007--08 isn't enough; they need to make progress beyond that level. And I realize that's probably a tall order, but Hendry himself is responsible for handcuffing the team payroll-wise, so that level of performance should still be required for him to keep his job.
  15. Just imagine if this cover came out when Slick Willie was President instead of Obama. They definitely would have had something in common. :D
  16. With just one week remaining in the regular season 6 of the 8 playoff spots are still up for grabs, as is the #1 seed. I'm out for blood against KarenMac (Cubicle Warriors). She just almost certainly knocked me out of the playoffs in another league (she has Brees on her team in that league, and that was the death of me), so I'm hellbent on returning the favor in this league.
  17. Why would that statistic surprise you? Sure, the Bears aren't a very good team, but they aren't anywhere near the league of Rams-bad.It doesn't surprise me that a majority picked the Bears (I did myself), but 96% seems astronomically high to me for a team as bad as the Bears have been lately.
  18. I participate in a pro football predictions contest that the local CBS affiliate runs. 96% of the people who have picked so far have picked the Bears. And since this is in North Carolina they can't all be homer picks. Apparently most people down here realize how bad the Rams are but don't realize how bad the Bears are.
  19. I agree with your take. Unless the Cubs know something we don't failing to offer Harden arbitration is inexcusable (especially with Lilly up in the air). Even if he accepted arbitration, got a big salary, and had a mediocre or worse season, it's still only for one year.
  20. Agreed. 8 of the 10 players that are most similar to Blyleven on baseball-reference are all hall of famers. Only Tommy John and Jim Kaat are not, and an argument can be made for both of them. I think John should for being the first to successfully undergo the surgery now named for him and return to elite status.
  21. ](*,) He's a doctor. :D
  22. I approve of this message, since I have Peyton in the NSBB league and a win assures me of the #1 seed. :D
  23. Joe Girardi: Football Coach
