  1. I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but
  2. I don't think players should be punished for the prevailing stupidity of the media when they played. Worrying about how a player was viewed while he played is what leads to stuff like Catfish Hunter and Jim Rice getting elected. But it is the Hall of Fame. Really the title basically says it is based more on perception then statistical facts Well then let's induct Eddie Gaedell, Mark Fidyrich, Joe Jackson, Deion Sanders, and Bo Jackson. I don't think Joe Jackson belongs on this list, because I think most people feel he belongs anyway. Otherwise I agree with your point.. Despite the name it's supposed to be for great players, not famous players.
  3. The 85 Bears talk about the current Bears.
  4. Oh good, you confused Alabama with Kentucky. "I came from AlabamaWith my banjo on my knee"
  5. The Hall has the final say, but I think they'd probably consider the player's wishes if a legitimate case could be made for the player's preferred team (and, in Dawson's situation I think a case could be made for the Cubs even though I think a better case could be made for the Expos). If a player spent 19 years with one team and one year with another, then asked for his plaque to show the cap of the team he spent one year with, I'm sure the Hall would exercise its authority and say no. A completely separate issue is what team's cap the player wears on the day of the induction ceremony. I think that decision is up to the player.
  6. There's a reason there is no NCAA Championship in football..... That crystal football says otherwise. Incorrect. Alabama won the BCS National Championship. The NCAA has nothing to do with the "championship" process is college football. The BCS (and the entire bowl system) operates outside of the NCAA, thus there has not been an actual NCAA football championship in a long time (if ever) Correct; that's why the former Division 1-AA is called the Football Championship Subdivision now. It's the highest level that has an official NCAA-sanctioned championship.
  7. The fan club's one member is anxiously awaiting it. :D
  8. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=8083 There hasn't been a new post in about 2 1/2 years, but it's stickied in FAQ as mentioned.
  9. Do you mean Cincinnati? or Mazeroski I interpreted it to mean Maz. He was elected by the Veterans Committee because of one World Series HR, and that was what led to the committee being restructured, which in turn is what has kept Santo out.
  10. There isn't such a rule, per se. I think it's referring to the idea that some voters believe that if Ruth and Cobb weren't unanimous selections nobody should be.
  11. Nolan Ryan probably isn't happy. :D
  12. You mean dishonorable mention. :D
  13. It's definitely happened more than a handful of times. I am drawing a blank on examples but it's happened multiple times in the last maybe 10 years (1 rematch that is) NFL Network said last night it has happened 9 times and the team that won the final week matchup is 4-5 the following week. I remember one year that the Colts lost big to the Broncos in week 17 (the usual Peyton Manning one-series-and-done), then turned around and beat the Broncos (and I don't think it was even close) the next week in the playoffs. 2003 Week 16: Broncos 31, Colts 17 (full participation). 2003-04 Wild Card Game: Colts 41, Broncos 10. 2004 Week 17: Broncos 33, Colts 14 (with Manning, et al, resting). 2004-05 Wild Card Game: Colts 49, Broncos 24. I was thinking of 2004-05. The previous year wasn't back-to-back weeks since they played in week 16, not 17.

  15. Amazing finish to Florida-NC State game.
  16. The Panthers are the only team in the history of the league to have two 1,100-yard rushers this year and also went 8-8, so I guess you and I are kindred spirits in the 'insane rushing numbers with little to show for it' regard. It would have been interesting to have seen how the Panthers would have done if Fox had realized sooner that Delhomme sucks.
  17. Nor is it Rick Ankiel. It could have been a lot worse.
  18. I voted second place. I'd rather expect less than first and be pleasantly surprised than vice versa.
  19. Way to go Crean & Crimson! \:D/ I'll go way out on a limb and predict that they will at least double their Big 11 win total over a year ago. :D
  20. Are you speaking about the weeds coming out of John Ritter's grave? If Hendry is taking advice from the dead this is a much more interesting offseason than it appears. The dead could probably make better offseason moves than Hendry. :D
  21. If Turner is brought back Angelo MUST be killed. Justifiable homicide.
  22. It was actually Dave Williams. Thanksgiving 1980 against the Lions. I remember listening to the game on the radio while driving somewhere. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/198011270det.htm
