  1. I like the idea, although I might slightly fine-tune it and make the first year count 25% instead of 30%. It just seems to me like it may be a bit easier to remember if the percentage increases by 25% per year over 4 years. With the reduced cap we set a couple of years ago this would make it easier to keep players who are still young but past the three years of full exemption. I assume you're talking about starting this after the 2010 season since the keeper deadline for this year has passed. I think we should commit one way or the other before the season begins since this could affect trades.
  2. Were you stalking me? :ninja:  I just sent an e-mail to Al letting him know he's up.
  3. And, in perhaps the shortest wait between picks in the history of this type of draft, I pick Brett Jackson, OF, Cubs (also in the database, as is my previous pick).
  4. clearly you are not an alum. He's an alum of the HCCF School of Spelling. :D
  5. He already did miss a major, though (maybe even two; I don't recall whether he missed the British Open) a year and a half ago when he had his knee surgery. So the point of his importance to the game should be relatively fresh.
  6. I sent him a PM as soon as I made my pick. I meant to mention that in my post, but I was doing it right before leaving for work so I didn't think to include it in my post. to be honest, sending someone a pm may not be very effective since they won't see it until they visit the site - if you can get on sportsline and send a message, that is probably more effective. That may be a good point. I tend not to think of it because I automatically get an e-mail when I get a private message here, but not everybody enables that option.
  7. I think you mean J.R. Richard (not J.P.), and I'd think he'd be up there. He seemed to be headed for major stardom before having his career cut short by a stroke.
  8. The opposite of "Lilly beheaded doctor." :D
  9. I sent him a PM as soon as I made my pick. I meant to mention that in my post, but I was doing it right before leaving for work so I didn't think to include it in my post.
  10. I pick Michael Taylor, OF, Oakland.
  11. And now I'm waiting on you. :D
  12. Without looking: Lyman Bostock and Tony Conigliaro had to have been on that list, right? I think Herb Score might be as well. That's just speculation; I didn't see that episode.
  13. First U.S. gold medal in men's figure skating since Brian Boitano in 1988. First defending world champion to win Olympic gold since Scott Hamilton in 1984. Interestingly he is now the reigning world champion and Olympic champion but not national champion.
  14. I believe he is, since he's signed to a contract with an MLB organization.
  15. Somebody should pick Cubs pitcher Dave Crouthers. Never mind that he's been retired for 5 years now, he's still in the database. :D
  16. The draft order and results can be seen here.
  17. As posted in another thread, Valenzuela's Screwballs pick Casey Kelly, RHP, Red Sox. Brian is up next. I sent him a PM in case nobody else has.
  18. Seriously? I never read a word suggesting that to be the case. I can't imagine they can make his fingers temporarily useful, for a couple years, before taking them off post career. I got the impression from the cubs.com article that removing fingers might be elective rather than necessary. It may be that he's willing to tolerate the pain now as a sacrifice to allow him to continue playing baseball but that he'd rather lose the fingers than continue dealing with the pain after he's retired.
  19. In terms of endowment they are No. 1 in the country. That is according to wikipedia which lists the official PDF as the source and has a link to the official document. michigan is nowhere close to having the largest endowment of any american university. I am basing it on this not sure what the guidelines are for the National Association of College and University Business Affairs. In looking at more than just a quick glance at 2009 MIT in every year that their number was listed had a bigger endowment. HCCF is puzzled by your sentence structure :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))
  20. I voted for a regular draft for the same reason; unfortunately we were outvoted. I'd rather spend a single evening on the draft instead of having to keep up with it over a period of several weeks.
  21. Damn you; I was hoping I was the only one who noticed that he was still available. :evil:You really thought a fantasy league loaded with Cub fans wouldn't notice their #1 prospect was available? :) I can dream, can't I? :D
  22. Damn you; I was hoping I was the only one who noticed that he was still available.
  23. At least most of the year. He had TJS last August.
  24. Two recent episodes had Cubs entries. One was the 9 most lopsided trades in MLB history. Two Cubs trades (one good, one bad) made the list. #7 was Ivan DeJesus for Larry Bowa and a throw-in named Ryne Sandberg, and #5 was Lou Brock for Ernie Broglio. #1 on the list was Babe Ruth for cash. Another episode was the top player at each position for the 1960s. The third baseman was Ron Santo.
