    Keepers

OK, now I got it. I wasn't changing the source from fantasy to MLB before. That's why it was showing me players no longer on my team and not showing me the players you just traded me.

    Keepers

One question about points. Is the point total that counts against the limit based on the time the player was on your team, or based on the entire season (relevant for players who weren't on your team the entire season)? And where do you find the point totals for each player on Sportsline? (OK, two questions, but they're related. :D )

    Keepers

That's my understanding too; an exemption means keeping a player after the year without counting against the point limit for keeping players for the next year.

    Keepers

yeah, I guess that makes sense. But I was thinking Bay was exempt because he didn't lose his rookie eligibility in 2003. Bonderman had a full year in 03. I assumed he wasn't exempt because of that. I'm not complaining about getting the 5th best offensive player in baseball for free. My understanding is that the exemptions start the first season a player appears in a major league game, regardless of whether he plays enough to lose rookie status for the next year. So, for example, Greenburg's one plate appearance for the Cubs this year starts the exemption clock ticking and he'd be exempt through 2007.
  5. Hard for me to do that, since it's the players you traded that I need to do well since I have all three of them on my own team. :D You are right, though, that it's worth taking more chances when you're 1-3. I'm 2-2 in my league, and my team is #1 (out of 16 teams) in terms of total points scored, so I'd be less inclined to do a high risk, high reward type of trade.
  6. Since the football season is nearly a quarter old now, I think it would be interesting to think of who our best sleepers (players we picked up in later rounds or via waivers/free agents who have contributed to our teams) are. I have two main ones. I drafted Eli Manning in the 10th round (16 team league), and he has replaced my second round pick, Brett Favre, as my starting quarterback. And I picked up Stephen Davis as a free agent after nobody drafted him (nobody in my league, myself included, really thought he'd come back this year).
  7. Interestingly, I have all three players you'd trade on my own fantasy team. I'd hesitate to do the trade because of all the touchdowns Davis has been getting (second in the league after tonight's game).
  8. My roster is now illegal following my trade with Tim. Do they need to be kept continuously legal, or do they just need to be legal again after the keeper deadline? And when is the deadline for choosing our keepers? This is my first offseason, so I'll probably have questions like this from time to time.
  9. Interestingly, I've been playing both fantasy baseball and football for about the past three years, and I have yet to be in a league where the regular season champion also wins the playoffs. In one baseball league in 2004 it was my team that won the regular season but lost in the playoffs.
  10. It was me that picked Tampa Bay.
  11. After this week there will be at most two people remaining alive in Survival Football. One of the final three, Bender Bending Rodriguez, didn't get a pick in before the deadline and is therefore finished.
  12. I like the signing. Something positive at the end of a very disappointing season. I would have preferred signing him for two years, but if three is what it took to get it done I have no problems with it. There's never any guarantee, but I see no reason why he can't continue to be the latest failed starter turned elite closer.

Will the Cubs be able to prevent Houston from clinching the Wild Card? Will Maddux finish with a .500 record? Will Oswalt win 20?
  14. He was here. This was his one post before getting the heave ho. He originally posted it in the Polls forum (the poll question was whether we would be rooting for the Sox or the Cardinals in the postseason). This guy reminds me somewhat of Tom26 from the cubs.com board a few years ago, in the sense that at least he's a funny troll.
  15. Criticizing players' performance is fine; childish name calling is not. If it were, there would be no need for the word sensors in the first place.
  16. Yep; since the first week's carnage, only one more team has been eliminated. And that person deserved to be eliminated, since he had the gall to pick the Lions over the Bears. :D
  17. And Sam Fuld gave the Cubs permission to re-draft him in 2004 (after previously drafting him in 2003).
  18. The Cubs stole our thoughts on who the Minor League POY is. :D
  19. You mean you don't like the TBA vs. TBA that Sportsline is showing? :D
  20. He didn't tell you what to do; he ASKED you. He did say please (or, rather, he said plese). :( Spellin iz hard. Dat's wy ther ar spel chekrz. :D

  22. They were killed in separate accidents (Baxter in 2001, Darr in 2002). An A's prospect was killed in the same accident as Baxter. The other person killed with Darr was not a player (although a Padres minor leaguer, Ben Howard, was injured).
  23. Woo-hoo! 21st place! \:D/ (At least that's in the top half, which is more than we can say about the Cubs in the NL Central at the moment.)
  24. I may be benefiting from your dropping Peralta for years. :D As far as Giambi is concerned, misery loves company. I dropped him myself after trading to get him from you.
