  1. I believe there are 5 (Tim, BigbadB, rawaction, California Raisin, and myself).
  2. (Raises hand) 148 here (assuming I tabulated correctly). Eight of the top 10 identified (I had Pinto and Gallagher instead of Marshall and Nolasco), with Pie, Pawelek, Cedeno, and Hill in the correct positions and Dopirak and Patterson one position higher than BA.
  3. They'd have to convince Wood to waive his no-trade clause.
  4. A nearly 50% decline in attendance since 2003. That's atrocious, considering how good the team has been.
  5. My top 3 (in Serena's contest) are exactly the same as T2E, and my #5 was his #4, so at the top I'm much closer to him than the others. Somehow I overlooked Marshall and Nolasco.
  6. That was the 91 season. I remember the Cubs were picked by many to win the division that year. Instead both Jackson and Smith were busts (I don't think it should have been a surprise for Jackson, because except for one career year he was average at best) and the Cubs went 77-83 (with Don Zimmer fired during the season). After the season Bell was traded to the White Sox for Ken Patterson and an underachieving outfielder who's name escapes me at the moment.
  7. Well, at least he was close. He did name a Robinson that was a star for the late 60s and early 70s Orioles. :D
  8. 1. Pie +10 +10 2. Pawelek +10 +10 3. Cedeno +10 +10 4. Harvey +10 +5 5. Hill +10 +10 6. Guzman +10 +7 7. Pinto 8. Dopirak +10 +8 9. Patterson +10 +8 10. Gallagher 148
  9. Yes, it's an exact verbatim copy, even down to the misspelling of Furcal's first name.
  10. No, it's definitely not just you. I could care less how loved they are if they can win the World Series. They could be like the 1970s A's, and that would be fine with me if the results are the same.
  11. You misspelled "gullible" when you wrote it on my ceiling.
  12. Hell freezes over? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v738/NCCubbieFan/HellMI.jpg
  13. You're way off base. How could you POSSIBLY overlook Lance Dickson?
  14. I don't recall the specific nature of the injury, but I definitely remember that he had some injury during his time with the Marlins.
  15. I do recall the Cubs saying his surgery was more difficult than normal. I don't recall reading whether that just meant his recovery would be longer or if he'd never fully recover. Considering how long it's been since the surgery I suspect the latter; I hope I'm wrong.
  16. I have Tomlinson on my team (I had the second pick, and the person with the first pick chose Peyton Manning). I was offered Marvin Harrison, Rudi Johnson, and a kicker for Tomlinson and Mike Vanderjagt, and I turned it down. It would take a LOT more than Portis and Moss to get me to even remotely consider trading Tomlinson.
  17. You mean they weren't named after Jim Brown? :D
  18. And even relievers who ARE named Gagne and Wagner can ruin teams' seasons by getting injured. Definitely a valid point. We were expecting big things from Remlinger and Hawkins based on their recent performance right before signing with the Cubs, and neither delivered as expected. There's no assurance that either Eyre or Howry will produce as we hope. Still, the POTENTIAL for a much improved bullpen is there (although with what we're paying them, I'd want more than just the potential).
  19. I lived in NC for a year, and even though the NHL in Raleigh is a monumental failure, I wouldn't be surprised to see the MLB put a franchise there. The southern fanbase is strong, and would have only ATL to compete with. The Carolinas have a strong baseball tradition near the Coast, Piedmont and Lowlands. I think a ballclub - with solid talent like FLA currently has - would be very, very viable. Don't forget that FLA also has a strong following in NC. The Mudcats are in Zebulon (near Raleigh), and a lot of people love Dontrelle and Miggy. Plus, the Bulls are wonderfully popular, and the Charlotte Knights (Sox AAA team) has decent attendence considering the crap that's run through their farm system the last few years. Carolina Baseball would work. I'd be a happy camper if there were an NL team within an hour of my home (I live about 30-45 minutes from Raleigh, depending on what part of town). I do think Charlotte is more likely; that would still be close enough for me to go whenever the Cubs are in town.
  20. Having Macias on the bench definitely won't doom the Cubs. Having him in the field or at the plate, however,.....
  21. No. It's not his fault that Walker and Green went down for the season and he suffered from a lack of talent surrounding him. It doesn't matter how great a quarterback is, he can't do the job without a decent supporting cast. Peyton Manning would probably look horrible if the Colts lost James, Harrison, and Wayne. P.S. I'm a Bears fan, not a Packers fan, but that still seems right to me.
  22. Just a reminder to get your pick in early this week due to the games on Thanksgiving Day. Better still, DON'T get your pick in early so I can win the contest this week. :D
  23. The defense without question. Adrian Peterson showed last week that they can still have a good running game even with Jones injured (I attribute some of that credit to the offensive line). Without the defense, however, they'd be toast. The offense is better than I think most of us expected to be, but it isn't at a championship level. The defense is.
  24. I'll see your Eeek! and raise you an Ugh! :D
