  1. Sox will win, I'll say in 7. And that will assure a Cub World Series appearance next year, because 100% of the White Sox World Championships have been followed up by a Cub World Series appearance the very next year. :D
  2. But how much time will he have to spend on the DL to heal from the fracture?
  3. Historically, 100% of White Sox World Championships have been followed by a Cubs World Series appearance the next year, so we should root for the White Sox so the Cubs can make the Series next year. Of course, that's only happened twice, so it's a small sample size.
  4. There's an early deadline this week, Friday evening at 7:00 P.M. Eastern time. That's because the Chiefs at Dolphins game originally scheduled for Sunday has been moved up to Friday because of Hurricane Wilma.
  5. I said 2004. To me thinking the Cubs were going to win the Wild Card when leading going into the last week of the season, only to watch the collapse, was worse than being resigned to reality early in the season.
  6. And now Mazzone has signed with the Orioles to replace Ray Miller as their pitching coach.

    Keepers

My team, revised following my trades: Major league keepers: Burnett (453.6) Cordero (exempt) Crawford (520) Furcal (475.5) Iguchi (exempt) Martinez (504.1) McPherson (exempt) Peralta (exempt) Ryan (198.4) Schilling (129) Total points: 2280.6 Minor league roster: Aardsma Durbin Gonzalez Hinckley Humber Loney Mathis Murton Pinto Sing My non-keepers have been released.
  8. Definitely Cubs vs. Cards. They've been rivals since way before the Astros even joined the league. Cubs vs. Cardinals is up there with Giants vs. Dodgers and Yankees vs. Red Sox.
  9. The contest has ended, due to my stupidly picking the Steelers to win yesterday with Big Ben out. Final results: 1st--Rocket Sauce Picks the Bengals; 2nd--Outwit Outplay Outlast (my entry); 3rd--Bender Bending Rodriguez; 4th--Blue Headed Pionus. The league has now been reset and a new contest begins this week. Everybody who participated before is registered; you just need to go to the league page and make your pick. If you didn't participate in the first round you can sign up and participate this time. The league ID is 7516, and the password is NSBB.
  10. I'd rather see him as a pants term stopgap.
  11. BOO! Actually I deserve to be eliminated for being stupid enough to pick Pittsburgh with Big Ben out.
  12. So if the Seahawks lose the pick 'em still ends? Yes, because we'd both be eliminated. We'd be co-champions. This happened with one of the Survival contests I was in last year.
  13. I should have known better than to pick Pittsburgh with Big Ben out. Regardless of the outcome tonight, I'll reset the league and a new contest will begin next week. I'll start a new thread for that and repost the sign-up info so if anybody missed the first contest but wants to join this time they can.
  14. I'm sorry, but if you think you're going to get the best offensive free agent on the market for 4 million dollars per year. You sir, are insane. I'm pretty sure he meant 3/36. That's how I interpret it too; 3 years at $12 million per year.
  15. QB-- I'd start Manning (admittedly I'm biased because he's on my team). RB--I'd bench Bettis (I don't know how many carries he'll get since Parker is the starter now). WR--I'd probably bench Horn until he shows he's recovered from his hamstring injury (he's listed as questionable).
  16. Manning. He HAS to have a good game to justify the confidence I showed him by trading Brett Favre. :D
  17. As many of us speculated the Colts defense completely shout Lloyd down (zero catches).
  18. I thought they were too, but I'm glad they won (they're my third favorite team behind the Bears and the Colts). The Colts were my pick this week.
  19. All that I know of is that if the player is under contract, the claiming team is responsible for all of the remaining salary. There may be more than that. Where's Mark Peel when we need him? :(
  20. I received a trade offer last night. I rejected it and made a counteroffer (because the original proposal was for a draft pick I already traded). Today my counteroffer is no longer showing up. I'm not sure if it was because my counteroffer was rejected or it just disappeared. I suspect it just disappeared, because when somebody asks for my 5th round pick and I counter by offering my 4th round pick for the same player (with the snaking bracket my 4th and 5th round picks are consecutive picks anyway) it doesn't make sense to me that he'd reject it (unless he subsequently got a better deal elsewhere).
  21. My final results (Mendoza Line Mob): 418 points, tied for 958 out of 1859. How did everybody else do? It's too bad you can't set up a league and just compete against other NSBB posters. Maybe they'll change that in the future.

    Keepers

 Doh, I know that; I don't know what I was under the influence of when I typed that. I'm still well under the limit (that's what happens when you're dead last and have fewer points on your team than anybody else to start with). OK, I'll either drop him or make him a keeper and drop somebody else before the Halloween deadline.
  23. He's exempt after 2005. This is his final exempt year.
  24. I'd bench Lloyd for the reason you mention. The Colts have suddenly turned into a defensive monster this year (the most points they've given up in a game all year is ten). That's not an ideal situation for a rookie quarterback making his first start. The Eagles have been making some big plays on defense, but they've also been giving up yards and points, so it may not be as hard for a player to put up some good fantasy numbers against them (I wish it were, since the Eagles are my fantasy team's defense).

    Keepers

My keepers: Burnett (453.6) Cordero (exempt) Crawford (520) Davies (exempt) Furcal (475.5) Iguchi (exempt) McPherson (exempt) Peralta (exempt) Schilling (129) Sizemore (exempt) Total points: 1578.1 Minor league roster: Aardsma Durbin Gonzalez Humber Loney Mathis Murton Pinto Sing Stauffer Murton is currently shown on my major league roster, but he still qualifies as a minor leaguer because he had less than 200 at bats with the Cubs (the one bright side of Dusty's refusal to give him more starts :D ). Stauffer, I'm not sure about. On one hand, he had more than ten major league starts. On the other hand, he was back in the minor leagues when the season ended. I know that during the season we can put players on our minor league rosters regardless of major league time if they get sent back to the minors, but I'm not sure if that carries over to the offseason. If it doesn't I'll either release him or make him a keeper and release somebody else. My hardest decision was deciding whether to keep Lowry or Davies. I decided on Davies because psychologically I couldn't justify releasing a player after I just traded for him. (Edited to erase evidence of stupidity :D ).
