  1. I wonder what happened to him. He only pitched in three games for West Tenn in 2005. Maybe he was injured. Yep. Tommy John surgery in May. Ah. I'm sure I read about it at the time, but I'd forgotten about him since then until the reference in this thread.

  3. The Mets seemed to for a while. At one time they had what was supposed to be the best young pitching trio in the game with Wilson, Isringhausen, and Pulsipher. All of them had their careers derailed by injuries and never lived up to their promise (although Isringhausen has since become a very good closer).
  4. And it was almost like a two level jump for him, since due to his 2002 injury he had only a little over 100 at-bats above A-ball before 2003.
  5. Williams definitely deserves credit for this past season. He showed a willingness to make bold moves that paid off. Whether his moves continue to pay off in the future remains to be seen, but for one season I don't think anybody can reasonably deny him any credit.
  6. Because he's not the one who I was already annoyed with because of his holier-than-thou attitude.

You do if there are two outs in the ninth and the broken bat causes you to hit a weak grounder instead of a line drive to the outfield. :D
  8. I'm getting in to it with Jeff now. He made a hyperbolic statement that there's zero chance of Hendry being fired after next season. When I pointed out he can't possibly say there's literally a zero chance he didn't back down and he reiterated his claim of a zero chance. So I called him out again; I'm interested to see how (or if) he responds. This was in one of the fifty gazillion Tejada threads.
  9. Plenty of chance. You definitely do not know that the Cubs will keep Hendry if next season is another disappointment. Zero chance. It's not a zero chance, and you know it. You may think there's LITTLE chance, and you might be right about that, but ZERO chance is an absolute statement that is clearly and factually not true because nobody can say with certainty what will happen after next season. When you make such a clearly incorrect statement, and refuse to back off it when called on it, you're likely to be criticized, and rightfully so.
  10. Looking at these numbers, what did we ever see in Nic? He was a 3rd round draft pick in 2000, put up weak numbers that year in Eugene. Didn't play in 2001 (is that right?). In 2002 (22) he was okay in AA in very limited duty and stunk in 2003. Felix put up far better numbers in AA at 20. And has the benefit of being a CF, while Nic was a corner OF. Your source is not correct, because it omitted 2001, which is the season that established him as a top prospect. I looked him up in one of my Baseball America Prospect Handbooks, and in 2001 he played for Daytona. In 503 ABs he hit .296 with 19 HRs, 85 RBIs, 24 SBs, 96 Ks, and 39 BBs. It looked like he had the combination of hitting for average and power and stealing bases; that's why everybody was so high on him. Omitting that season gives an entirely different picture.

I suspect he was referring to the gymnast (Korean, I believe, but I'm not positive) who was competing for the all-around title. The judges inadvertantly used too low of a starting score to deduct from and, as a result, Paul Hamm of the U.S. won the gold.
  12. There is no such thing. There is a general rule for players traded in the middle of a long-term contract (nothing in Tejada's contract specifically, but a rule that applies to all players). The rule is that, if a player is traded in the middle of a long-term contract, they then have the right to demand a trade at the end of the season and if not traded can become a free agent. There's an entire thread devoted to this issue, but my feeling is that Hendry should insist on Tejada's waiving that clause as a condition of making the trade. My feeling is that he would agree to that (possibly with a monetary incentive added as an inducement to do that, as I believe Bruce Miles said might happen). I think Tejada might be agreeable since he's the one that wants a trade in the first place, and he'd be more tradeable if a team knows they'd have him for the rest of his contract. This is similar to Sosa's waiving his option a year ago to become more tradeable.

  14. Dallas Clark. Dallas Clark. Dallas Clark. Dallas Clark. Dallas Clark. You can say that again. :D
  15. The Bears will beat the Falcons this week to wrap up an undefeated record against the NFC South (if Orton struggles in the first half Grossman will take over by halftime; Smith is a lot smarter than Dusty). They will then beat Green Bay to wrap up the division (anything can happen in this series, but this year the Packers can't compete with the Bears when the Bears are on, and Lovie will make sure they will be). The joker in the deck is the season ending game in Minnesota. My gut feeling is that the Vikings will win if they are still in playoff contention, otherwise they will suffer a letdown and the Bears will win. I voted #2 seed in the poll, but I'm thinking #3 may be a bit more realistic. I won't complain about that, since going in to the season few people expected the Bears to be serious contenders.
  16. Plenty of chance. You definitely do not know that the Cubs will keep Hendry if next season is another disappointment.
  17. Mike Flanagan and Jim Beattie were effectively acting as co-GM's for a couple of seasons (although I don't think either one actually had the title of GM). Beattie recently left, although I don't recall if he was fired or left on his own.
  18. For your penance, say V "Our Fathers" and V "Hail Marys."
  19. I went with a sure pick this week: San Diego over Miami. San Diego has won five in a row, they're at home, and playing against a team with a losing record. They can't possibly lose. Oops.
  20. And how about Player C. First call-up: 2-4, 5.52 ERA, 20 K, 11 BB, 31 IP First full season: 6-14, 5.61 ERA, 101 K, 74 BB, 155.7 IP Too bad that Greg Maddux guy never amounted to anything. :D
  21. Of course, being a Cub fan dooms you to a lifetime of setting yourself up for sadness. :D
  22. Why would he do that? He'd do it because he's the one who wants the trade in the first place, and he'd be much more tradeable if the team trading for him knows they'd have him for more than one season. Basically, he'd do it because he'd HAVE to in order to get his trade wish now.
  23. That's when Zambrano made his Cubs' debut. He and Borowski were the players called up for spot starts. They each had one start and stunk before going back down. Fortunately he's done a little better since then. :D
  24. My Roadkill team is counting on him doing just that. :D
  25. I said no to avoid being set up for a letdown. I'll assume it won't happen and let it be a pleasant surprise if it does.
