  1. And we have a former Cub employee (Ned Colletti) to thank for that.
  2. If they're grown men, I'm sure they can take it and not get all sensitive. So while we're disregarding people, we'll just call everyone who they feel applies whiny, stupid, arrogant, etc. Oh well, at least we'll finally be able to call out [you] for being a jerk all the time. Ah, the old [ you] trick. I was wondering why I was reading about you saying you could call me a jerk. :D
  3. I've split the tangent and sent it to Social. I'll lock this thread since the Furcal discussion has moved to another thread anyway.
  4. Do you mean San Diego, or Jacksonville? They've already played Cincy.
  5. You're out of line with this comment. Just because you consider Lee untouchable doesn't mean it's stupid for others to discuss the possibility of trading Lee if he can be traded for equal value. There are several times throughout baseball history where superstars are traded for other superstars, so talking about the possibility isn't stupid. I'm not advocating trading Lee by any means, but you can't dismiss such talk as stupid just because you don't agree with it.
  6. Mor typoes wuld add mor werds tu thu leest. :D
  7. Because if he's not protected he could be taken by another team in the Rule 5 draft (see: Sisco, Andy).
  8. you know what pisses me off? i was born in oklahoma, THIS IS CARDINAL COUNTRY FOR CHRISTS SAKE, WHY WAS I BORN INTO A CUB FAMILY? it could have been so easy if my parents were sox fans i'd be celebrating a world championship and probably trolling this board And getting Modzilla'd. :D
  9. Hendry seems to have a good relationship with Boras. So even if Z does decide to test the free agent market, I think there's still a very good chance he'd eventually decide to remain with the Cubs.
  10. You're not wrong. There is a 40 man roster in the offseason, but not 25. The 25 man roster is from the beginning of the season up until rosters expand on Sept. 1.
  11. What he said. I started this thread to provide a summary of actual moves in one place that people can refer to without having to read through a lot of discussion to get to the actual moves.
  12. I think there was an explanation for it once. I don't recall for sure, but it may have something to do with deleted posts (or threads).
  13. It's in Wisconsin, about 120 miles north of Milwaukee.
  14. He can't. The Veterans Committee only meets to consider candidates every other year. He can be considered again next year.
  15. At one time yesterday (during one of the few times I was actually able to get on this week) it showed the same thing for the last post in Baseball Discussions.
  16. It is sometimes difficult to distinguish between rumors and proposals vs. actual transactions in some of the threads in this forum. Accordingly, this thread is to be used to summarize actual moves (not rumors or suggestions). To keep this thread from growing too long I request that this thread only be used for factual posts specifying the trade or free agent signing, and that any discussion relating to such moves be done in a separate thread. That way people have one thread they can open to see at a glance what moves have been made, without having to read through a lot of discussion if they just want to know the facts.
  17. That's a good idea; IIRC there was such a thread last year. I'm heading off to work now, but later this afternoon or tonight when I'm on again I'll start such a thread if one hasn't already been started by then (that is assuming I can actually access the board then). Alternatively, someone else can start such a thread as a regular thread and I can change it into a sticky when I'm online again.
  18. That's been the case a lot the last couple of days; it happened to me too. Posting is VERY slow right now. One way you can find out if your post went through is, before reposting, you can go to that thread. Even if your post doesn't appear yet, if you hit the Reply button, you will see (below the box for typing your reply) a review of the previous posts in that thread (from latest to earliest). You can look there to see if your post went through. Confirming the response to your question, we try to keep discussion on a topic to a single thread. It makes it easier for people to keep up with the discussion if they don't have to read multiple threads to do so. When someone starts a redundant thread, therefore, we usually either lock it or merge it into the earlier thread. That shouldn't be interpreted as saying there's something wrong with your post, just that there's an existing discussion on that topic. Normally when we lock a thread for that reason we provide a link to the original thread; I don't know if that was done in your case since I wasn't the moderator who locked it.
  19. I'm not expecting them to lose to the Chargers. It's Jacksonville and/or Seattle I think they could lose to, since both of those games are on the road. I consider Tennessee and Arizona to be almost certain wins, and San Diego a probable win.
  20. I've met NCCubbiefan, and you, sir, are no NCCubbieFan. sneaky south carolinans, jealous of their northern neighbors He actually did meet me. He, Brinoch, and I all attended a Cubs game in Washington this past season and we all met briefly.
  21. Wrong. Link Just posting what they had for an headline on the website: Cubs, Howry reach agreement. Reaching an agreement isn't the same thing as signing. Reaching an agreement means that both sides have agreed to the terms for signing, not that the signing has actually taken place.
  22. I think they'll go 15-1 or 14-2 in the regular season. I also think they'll win the Super Bowl. My three favorite teams (in order) are the Bears, Colts, and Panthers. I like the chances of seeing one or two of my teams playing in February. :D Interestingly, my main competition this year in fantasy football (he's first and I'm second out of 16 teams) has Peyton Manning as his quarterback (my quarterback is Eli Manning). If we play each other for the championship, which is in week 17, I may have a huge advantage if Dungy does rest Manning (or more likely give him a one series cameo appearance, like last year, to extend his games played streak).
  23. I dont think hes going to net much in a trade considering hes a free agent. He won't get them anything. Since he's a free agent he can't be traded, since nobody owns his rights to trade.
  24. Since we're questioning people's identities here, I'll go ahead and confess. I'm really Dusty Baker. :^o
