  1. It might not even take until Monday. If the Jaxx sweep the series would end on Friday, so he could be up by Saturday. I could see calling him up now if he were actually going to play, but not just to have another warm body glued to the bench.
  2. After just one week the 14 Survival Football participants are already down to the Final Four. Six contestants were eliminated due to incorrect picks (most picking St. Louis over San Francisco) and four people missed the early deadline due to the Thursday night game. At this rate we may be starting a new round sooner rather than later.
  3. Interesting; I lived in LaFollette during my four years there as an undergraduate.
  4. I believe it is a blown save if theoretically it's a save situation when the reliever enters the game.
  5. I bet you'd also want to strike my all-important fifth win, which raises my winning percentage above .200. :D
  6. The Djaxx web site also now says the series starts on Tuesday, with a travel day on Thursday.
  7. We may be starting a new round of Survival Football sooner rather than later. After one week it will already be down to 4 or 5 players still alive. 9 players have already been eliminated (4 didn't get their picks in by the early deadline and 5 picked teams that lost today), 4 players picked teams that won, and 1 player picked Philadelphia in the Monday night game.
  8. The last place team in the East did beat the 6th place team in the West by almost 80 points, though. :D I noticed these non-games are actually reflected in the league standings. NSBB is now shown with a 22-1 record.
  9. Once upon a time Ball State was actually a very good football program. My freshman year there (1978) they went undefeated in the MAC and 10-1 overall, losing only to Louisiana Tech (unfortunately the MAC didn't have a bowl tie-in back then). They've won the MAC a few times since then and been to a few bowl games. Those days are a distant memory now. Hopefully the stadium renovation will help restore the program to its former glory.
  10. Thanks to strong starts from Lopez, Schilling, and Sosa, I now have a lead in my totally meaningless, counts for nothing, non-playoff match. :D
  11. This announcement doesn't really relate to the Minor League system, but I'm posting it here mainly for the benefit of Ron and Nathan, in case they don't see the announcement in the Baseball Discussions forum. http://bc.images.trb.com/media/graphic/2005-04/16841579.jpg Thanks to the efforts of Aramis Fan for making initial contact, followed up by DJAXXFAN to firm up the details, Cubs' television play-by-play broadcaster Len Kasper has agreed to answer NSBB members' questions. A thread for posting questions has been established here: Premium Non-premium Questions will be accepted until 11:59 P.M. Central time Tuesday, Sept. 13. Thanks to Len for his contributions to our site, and thanks to all who make NSBB the best Cubs site.

  13. You're not alone; four people in the league missed the deadline.
  14. Thanks for joining NSBB and taking our questions. Getting participation from broadcasters and other personnel, including players, throughout the organization contributes to making this such a great site. 1. You're the first Cubs play-by-play television broadcaster not named Brickhouse or Caray in many decades. How does it feel to be following such a great legacy? 2. It sounds like Dusty is going to get a contract extension. What do you think the Cubs need to do in order to win a championship under his leadership? 3. Do you still visit the cubs.com forum after they thought you were an imposter and your thread was deleted? :D (You don't need to worry about anything like that happening here.)
  15. Thanks to Brandon for his participation and congratulations on a great season and for a great game against the Mudcats tonight.
  16. You were right about Cy Cain. :(
  17. Fixed. :D Both of them?
  18. Todd Rundgren's son plays for Carolina. I wonder if he saw the light yet about the outcome of this series. :D
  19. GRAND SLAM FOR SING! Aunt Florence is out in full force tonight.
  20. Iowa: Total--64-75 (4th place out of 4); no split season West Tenn: 1st half--44-25 (1st place) 2nd half--39-31 (1st place) Daytona: 1st half--35-32 (2nd place out of 6); 2nd half--34-34 (5th place) Peoria: 1st half--35-35 (4th place out of 8 ); 2nd half--33-37 (6th place tie) Boise: Total--34-42 (3rd place out of 4); no split season Mesa: 1st half--10-18 (8th place tie out of 9); 2nd half--9-19 (9th place) Interestingly, the pastor of my church in North Carolina is also called Pastor Tom.
  21. Looks like I might not get to see a game in the booming metropolis of Zebulon. That's OK; it turns out I wouldn't be able to go to game 4 anyway due to another commitment Sunday afternoon, and I don't want it to go to game 5. Bring on the brooms tomorrow!
  22. OK, kiddies, this is a harmless thread. Let's not be attacking each other here. If you think it's silly, you can simply stay out of it.
  23. At one time the Cubs' short season A team was in the NY-Penn League (Geneva). I believe that was when the rookie league team was in the Appalachian League (Wytheville, then Huntington). I'm guessing that having the team in Boise now is so that the two short-season teams are in the same part of the country. If the proposed minor league restructuring that would eliminate the Arizona Summer League is implemented (I don't know if it's final or not), then it seems to me the Cubs may want to relocate back east for short-season A.
  24. Aguilar started Game 1. He was bumped up when the originally scheduled starter, Johnson, was called up by the Marlins. Nick Ungs, the pitcher who pitched the no-hitter against the Jaxx in the regular season, is now scheduled to start Game 2.
  25. Just a reminder about the early deadline for submitting your Survival Football pick for this week (tonight at 11:59 P.M. Pacific time) because of the season opener tomorrow night. You can still sign up until the deadline.
