  1. It was announced that the 2008 Southern League All-Star Game will be July 14 in the booming metropolis of Zebulon, North Carolina. \:D/ (I only live about an hour from the stadium.) I don't have a link (I haven't seen it on the web yet; it was in my local paper and on the local news).
  2. There's no veteran election this year, I think. I think the revamped election begins with the next class. Correct. They voted on managers and executives this year, players next year. I think he gets in this time.
  3. Geonany Soto
  4. The game was just what I expected from Ball State; a lot of offense but no defense. I'm looking forward to next year with the entire offense ack; hopefully the defense will improve.
  5. What a joke. The Browns didn't take care of their own business, so because of that the Colts are supposed to risk injury in a meaningless game to help the Browns out? Yeah, right.
  6. The bolded criterion is the most important of all and the one that guarantees it gets done.
  7. Jack Brickhouse was my favorite, and I also really liked Vince and Lou. I don't remember Lloyd Pettit that well, since he only broadcasted a couple of years when I first started following the Cubs (1969 and 1970). I remember the name Jim West (he replaced Pettit as Jack's partner if I recall), but I don't remember much about him.
  8. Personally, I think he still has to prove that he IS a #2. What more does he have to do? He was probably the best pitcher on the Cubs last year. For starters, he has to win more than 11 games. Granted he had poor run support last season, but a #2 starter needs to do better than 11 wins regardless of run support. I like Rich Hill, but I agree that he still has more to prove to be a solid #2 starter. 9. because he's a petulant, 12-year old looking punk? How is he petulant, and how is he a punk? Other than be an average-good NFL QB that has helped lead his team to the playoffs in every year that he has been a fulltime starter, what has he done to make YOU dislike him so much? It seems that his greatest sin is that he isn't his brother. "Boo Hoo! I don't WANT to play for San Diego! Daddy, make them stop drafting me!" Your blind Ole Miss homerism makes you miss the fact that he is a whiny brat who sucks when the pressure is on. That's fine and all, but your angst toward him makes it sound like he raped your wife or something. My Ole Miss "homerism" doesn't blind me from thinking that it was a bitch move when he didn't want to go to the Chargers. He was crucified in local papers for it, as he should have been. However, he's not an arrogant person, he's never gotten into trouble, he doesn't run with a bad crowd, and he pretty much stays to himself. Truly an awful person who is to be loathed. And it's not as if Eli is the only person to ever hold out and say that he didn't want to play for the team that did or was likely to draft him. John Elway agrees.
  10. WVU is suing Rodriguez. Apparently they think he'll try to get out of paying the buyout clause in his contract.
  11. I'm in two Yahoo head-to-head leagues. One league I started 0-5, then won 6 in a row before splitting the last 2 games in the regular season to finish 7-6 (7th place). The playoffs were a disaster, as Reggie Bush was my key RB. I lost all 3 games to finish 8th in the playoffs. The other league I was in (the NSBB league) I went L-W-L-W-L to start at 2-3, then things came together and I won the last 8 games to finish 10-3 (2nd) before running the table in the playoffs to win the championship.
  12. FWIW, Bruce Levine stated that he knows Stone declined a fulltime TV booth offer by the Sox that would have paid him $600,000 per season (I can't remember how long the proposal was for). Anyway, my guess is that Stone is holding out for the Cubs job (speculation is that new ownership may make changes in the booth OR Stone could be leaving himself available for the "consultant" position, that he's been lobbying for, within the new ownership group). just wondering... how much do people in the booth normally make? I thought i remembered BB initially signing a 3 year deal that paid him nearly 900,000/year..but i could easily be mistaken. A color analyst making nearly $1 million per year? I don't buy that one bit.
  13. Thanks; it was an enjoyable season. Losing one player can make all the difference. In another league I'm in I went 7-1 over the last 8 weeks of the regular season to make the playoffs, but then Reggie Bush went down and I lost all 3 playoff games to finish 8th.
  14. 30 points on Boise for me. I also had 29 points on Memphis to beat Florida Atlantic. :(
  15. Hopefully Tim's upgrade to the gold version of the software will help. Maybe there were some bugs worked out in the final version.
  16. Yes.
  17. Not a chance. If they are now just getting to review the clubs financial records, it cannot happen in two days and most of baseball is out for the holidays. First Zell would need to select who he wants to sell to and I think he has bigger fish to fry revamping the executive level of Tribune. Then it needs to be approved by the ownership committee. THEN, it goes to the owners who would have to meet and approve the deal. That doesn't happen in two days. Who the heck is O's Insider anyhow? Sounds like a blog which means don't believe it. This reply is absolutely hilarious. I love it. How did I miss this? Classic!!!!!! Again, care to explain why this is "classic"? Yeah, I am a little offended. Sorry but I don't spend my time reading every baseball tidbit and every thread on this board. I read what interests me and there was nothing to indicate to me that this person was not being serious. The reply to your post was probably in poor taste, but the original poster was making an inside joke regarding the O's. There would have been no way for you to tell that he was joking, unless you had followed the Roberts-gate scandal (regarding the outed Oriole Hangout insider). The poster kept saying "Roberts to the Cubs is IMMINENT" etc. etc. It came down to the point where he was stringing everybody along, and his "inside source" was setting him up with bad info to expose him. Do you see this deal happening before opening Day? And if it does do you think the Cubs and MLB will give Cuban a fair shot? or was Canning and Co. the chosen owner all along? I stand by my initial reply. His follow up "offended" post was even funnier.
  18. Zell has a stake in the Sox. I don't think Canning does too, although I'm not positive about that.
  19. Dee Brown, the baseball player.
  20. Actually it's the White Sox he owns a piece of.
  21. Is Ceda injured again? He hasn't seemed to have pitched for quite some time.
  22. I think it may have been the offseason between 2000 and 2001 when mlb.com took over. I visited the original cubs.com site occasionally but didn't post back then. I started posting on the cubs.com board during the offseason following the 2001 season (around the time Moises Alou signed as a free agent), and mlb.com had taken over by then.
  23. Bye bye Turner. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
