  1. Nothing about the article you linked to suggests that he's stepping down after next season. It said he can continue coaching as long as he wants, then he will be replaced by Fisher. That's consistent with what was reported on my news tonight. He's signing a one-year contract extension with options beyond that for him to continue coaching as long as he wants.
  2. I have and enjoyed it. Good memories of Harry (the book covers his entire career, not just his years with the Cubs). And it does come packaged with a CD, even if Bruce himself doesn't realize that (see comments earlier in this thread). :D I've read it too...its a real quick read (but good), the substance is in the CD. So there's another witness to the fact that the book actually does come with a CD. The author is always the last to know. :D

  4. Four years in a row and still not even back to where they were in 2003 is NOT going in the right direction. To be going in the right direction they'd have to progress beyond where they were in 2003 (which would mean making the World Series). But if you want to consider three steps forward after taking four steps back going in the right direction, be my guest. How exactly is going from last place to winning a division a step backwards again? We're looking at it from a different perspective. I'm looking at Hendry's entire tenure, not just comparing 2007 with 2006. And his tenure overall is not a success, when you consider they still haven't gotten back to the level of 2003 despite the promising outlook at the time. I concede that 2007 was an improvement over 2006, but that doesn't excuse his letting them fall to the 2006 level in the first place.

  6. Conference final against the Colts. With many of the injured players back by then the Colts will get revenge for the loss earlier in the season.
  7. I absolutely, positively, 100% guarantee that you're right about not losing to the Bills. If they actually PLAYED the Bills during the time you mentioned there might be a 1% chance or so. However, it's actually the Dolphins, not the Bills, that they play in week 16.
  8. I have both Holt and Bruce in one of my leagues. I also had Reggie Bush as my primary running back. Needless to say I lost. Fortunately I won in my other league (first round of playoffs in both leagues). UGH. BARELY. Barely counts. :D

  10. Haha. Is that the book they were always talking about during the broadcasts last year, or did you guys write it a couple of years ago? That's the book they were talking about. It comes with an audio CD that includes many of Harry's calls. The CDs came out a couple years ago. We wrote the book this year, and it was released this fall. I'm not talking about the "Baseball Voices" CD series (that's the one that came out a couple years ago). There is a different CD that's packaged with the book (not sold separately); each track on the CD relates to a chapter in the book.
  11. Hendry has plenty of choice, since the Cubs control Prior for one more season. That at least buys time, hoping that a new owner and hopefully a new GM will cause Prior's feelings toward remaining with the Cubs long-term to change.
  12. Ironically, he works for the same paper as this guy:http://www.dailyherald.com/images/columnist/story/bruce_miles.jpg

  14. IU leading 31-17 with about 4 1/2 minutes remaining in the first half. No Gordon, no Bassett, no problem.
  15. :( Damn. This stuff was all unattributed speculation from Paul Sullivan. I'd love to here where he got the "June at the earliest" bit. I haven't heard one piece of reliable information on Prior's rehab for weeks. I wonder the same thing. That would mean he'd be out for longer than a year after the surgery, and I don't think recovery from shoulder surgery takes longer than a year.
  16. Is Aaron Rowand really a sure thing in your opinion? In his opinion, obviously yes or he wouldn't have made the comment. In reality, no.
  17. then what is it?
  18. Chocolate and cherry are serious omissions. But of those listed my favorite is pecan.
  19. Michigan could try to lure Jim Harbaugh from Stanford, since he played at Michigan. I don't know whether his Stanford contract includes a reasonable buy-out clause.
  20. A. You don't know that.B. They may here Zambrano's name, but it would be in the context of "You aren't getting Zambrano."
  21. Picks are traded frequentl. Don't forget the Cubs drafted and traded Josh Hamilton last year. A few years earlier the Orioles drafted Luke Hagerty from the Cubs, then traded him to the Marlins (who eventually returned him to the Cubs).
  22. Iowa St thought they pulled off a major move until they noticed it was the wrong Miles. Indiana State. Easy confusion, though, since both are abbreviated ISU. :D
  23. I've moved this to baseball discussions since it isn't really a transaction.
