  1. Officially his contract wasn't renewed, but it's really just semantics.
  2. Miles has accepted a new head coaching job.
  3. Paul Johnson of Navy seems to be their top choice, but he's also interviewed for other jobs (Georgia Tech, for one). Rod Broadway of Grambling has also interviewed.
  4. Infante too! And probably Guzman too, since he's going to miss most (if not all) of 2008 recovering from TJS.
  5. Again, as has been repeated over and over on this board since the trade was made, the Cubs didn't choose to draft Hamilton and trade him. They weren't going to draft anybody, so they worked out a deal with the Reds where they'd draft an unnamed player and immediately trade him to the Reds. It wasn't until the Cubs' turn to draft that the Reds identified the player as Hamilton, and the Cubs drafted him for the sole purpose of trading him to the Reds.
  6. Trying to get this back on track with serious choices: 1. Babe Ruth 2. Ted Williams 3. Barry Bonds 4. Honus Wagner 5. Willie Mays 6. Hank Aaron 7. Josh Gibson 8. Cy Young 9. Lou Gehrig 10. Joe DiMaggio 11. Rickey Henderson 12. Roger "The Rocket" Clemens 13. Alex Rodriguez 14. Sandy Koufax 15. Jimmie Foxx 16. Pedro Martinez 17. Ty Cobb 18. Mel Ott 19. Rogers Hornsby 20. Albert Pujols 21. Stan Musial 22. Nolan Ryan 23. Mickey Mantle 24. Walter Johnson 25. Sammy Sosa 26. Satchel Paige 27. Greg Maddux 28. Cap Anson 29. Manny Ramirez 30. Bob Feller
  7. It's still tw years in a row for Kentucky going to a bowl game. I don't think that's happened since the Tim Couch era. My three favorite teams (Ball State, Indiana, and Kentucky) are all going bowling. I don't think that's ever happened before. Ball State's only been to two before, so that's a pretty good bet. Actually it's three (California Bowl in 1989; Las Vegas Bowl in 1993 and 1996). Or maybe you were talking about DIFFERENT bowls and not counting repeat appearances in the same bowl. Huh, no, I thought it was two. Interesting. Never won one though, I don't think. But that's gonna change. Toronto's going to rock. Are you going to try and go, NCCubFan? You're right that they haven't won a bowl game yet. They lost to Fresno State (27-6) in the 89 California Bowl, to Utah State (42-33) in the 93 Las Vegas Bowl, and to Nevada (18-15) in the 96 Las Vegas Bowl. Their best chance to win a bowl game probably would have been in 78 when they went undefeated in the MAC and 10-1 overall, but the nonconference loss (to Louisiana Tech) probably cost them a bowl bid. That may have been the best team in school history, but the MAC didn't have a bowl deal in place. They did a few years earlier with the Tangerine Bowl (later renamed the Florida Citrus Bowl), but that deal expired, and it was a few years before the MAC got another bowl deal (with the California Bowl, later the Las Vegas Bowl, and finally the Motor City Bowl). Back then there were only about half as many bowl games as there are now, so some of the lesser conferences didn't always have deals in place. At this time I don't anticipate going to the game, but I haven't decided for sure. It would be a long trip from North Carolina in the winter, although it might not cost too much to fly. I'll decide for sure once I see what the cost is for the alumni packages they mentioned they'd have through the Alumni Association.
  8. I don't even remember if Yahoo has a pick'em contest for the bowl games. They do for the NCAA basketball tournament, but I don't remember one for the bowl games.
  9. I'm in as Cardinals and Hoosiers.
  10. Wut? Hamilton has never been accused of roids. He had a problem with coke. I know that now, 2 people have already mentioned that. I knew it was something and saw "suspended for banned substances" and forgot which it was. Not only did he have major drug addiction issues, but he actually quit baseball for 4 years I believe. The closest he came to playing ball was mowing baseball fields. He got some help, got things turned around, was amazing in half a season last year. He never quit baseball, he was suspended. And it was more like 2 or 3 years, not 4.

  12. The quote is so idiotic it's sig-worthy.
  13. 1. Babe Ruth 2. Ted Williams 3. Barry Bonds 4. Honus Wagner 5. Willie Mays 6. Hank Aaron 7. Josh Gibson 8. Cy Young 9. Lou Gehrig 10. Joe DiMaggio 11. Rickey Henderson 12. Roger "The Rocket" Clemens 13. Alex Rodriguez 14. Sandy Koufax He didn't have the longevity other players had, but during his prime nobody was better (my opinion). It would have been interesting to see what his career could have been if not cut short (much like Gale Sayers in football).

  15. Minor detail, but it was actually Arizona State, not Arizona. And the "Michigan Man" (Steve Fischer) then led the team to the national championship after they underachieved in the regular season under Frieder. I believe Fischer is the only coach ever to win a national championship before winning a regular season game.
  16. It isn't. It used to be a major bowl before the BCS, but was left out of the BCS (I believe because they weren't willing to pay out enough). The BCS bowls are the Rose, Orange, Fiesta, and Sugar Bowls, and the BCS championship game (which rotates among the sites of the other BCS games).I think you may have missed the joke. Posting after 4:00 A.M. between dozes will do that to you.

  18. I think final exam week is considered part of the semester, since that's when semester grades are largely determined. I'd think that for eligibility purposes the semester would end when final grades are posted, because that's when it would be known whether a player regains eligibility.
  19. LSU. Despite their two triple overtime losses I think they were the best team in college football this year. Plus O$U has two extra weeks of inaction before the game, which hasn't always been good for Big 11 teams.
  20. It was Distinguished Guest.
  21. Fixed.
  22. Or like the Bears a few years ago, when they prematurely announced they were hiring Dave McGinnis as head coach, then he got mad and backed out because they jumped the gun. I believe that was when they ultimately wound up with Jauron.
  23. It was too close for comfort for awhile (7-0 CMU at halftime, then Miami scored a field goal to pull within 7-3), but then CMU took over and dominated the rest of the way. I'm glad Ball State got one of the MAC bids rather than having to cross their fingers and hope to get in through the back door because of not enough teams qualifying from other conferences. It didn't sound like their chances were too good that way, unless O$U makes it to the championship game.
  24. I'm all for LeFevour after the way he helped Ball State today. :D
