  1. You still can't mention the name Jody Davis without remembering Harry singing it out: Jody, Jody Davis... Jody, Jody Davis,Catcher without a peer. Jody, Jody Davis, He of the home run bat. (Just a couple that I remember)
  2. No, it isn't. All it is now is annoying because you have to scroll through all those posts to see if there's actually any posts of substance. Enough is enough, people. Time for it to stop.
  3. Prediction for Wednesday: The sun will come up, this thread will get 3--5 pages longer, the sun will go back down, and Brian Roberts will still be an Oriole.
  4. For future reference, when creating polls, one should allow multiple responses only if it actually makes sense for an individual to give more than one answer. :D
  5. I love that line. But what does it mean?It means he drives in runs with his arm. :D
  6. I would not. BTW, polls belong in the Polls forum.
  7. That's almost a given. More challenging would be a pool to predict the date the thread reaches 200 pages.
  8. Even P.K. Wrigley knew that he could'nt hire Ernie Banks as manager because the day would come that he would have to fire him. I remember that. I think that discussion was when Ernie was mentioned as a possible replacement for Leo the Lip.
  9. Did you just say Joe Morgan and think in the same sentence? Oops; thanks for showing me the error of my ways.
  10. Another pitcher from the same era, Johnny Podres, died Sunday at 75. You know you're getting older when players who were still active when you started following baseball are now dying in their 70s.
  11. For those who still care. My real interest ended yesterday. My favorite team (Bears) spent the season in hibernation, my third favorite team (Panthers) had yet another season just on the wrong side of .500, and my second favorite team (Colts) flamed out yesterday. Last year was memorable for me with my two favorite teams playing against each other in the Super Bowl, and I was so into it that I watched most of the NFL Network coverage the week leading up to the game. This year I'll watch the conference championships and Super Bowl, but it's a real letdown.
  12. Same with me. I want the Bears to kick their fannies when they play because they're a division rival, but no more so to me than the Vikings or Lions.
  13. Or maybe we could get Marquis' contract off the books? Just a question here and its probably been talked about and thought of way before I did. But would Marquis be a decent middle innings guy? He's durable, throws hard and is an innings eater. Just thinking out loud!!! Any way to lessen Marquis innings would be a good thing, however Marquis isnt known to be a real accomadating guy. When things arent the way he wants them, he is usually pretty vocal about it, so I highly doubt he'd accept a bullpen role quietly. He does work for the Cubs, though, so if the Cubs say he's a middle reliever then he's a middle reliever. Let him pout and sulk all he wants.
  14. They didn't know that in 2006. While we're talking about adding Zambranos, why not bring back the third Zambrano? He'll only be 42 years old when the season starts. :D
  15. From what I recall reading Schmidt's jealosy isn't against Santo specifically, but rather the idea of the Veterans' Committee letting anybody in. I remember he made comments to the extent that, if a player wasn't good enough to be voted in by the writers in 15 tries, they don't belong and adding them dilutes the honor for those who were elected legitimately. I'm not sure if Morgan's thinking is along the same lines or not.
  16. You've just spoiled the major surprise that was going to be announced at the Cubs' Convention. :D
  17. The words "Chargers" and "upset" will be used in the same sentence only in the context of the Chargers being upset with themselves for getting beat so bad by the Colts.
  18. Cool. A Smokey and the Bandit reference. East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',we're gonna do what they say can't be done. We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there. I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run.
  19. 1 postseason series win since 1908 and 0 World Series appearances since 1945 is beyond horrible; it's completely inexcusable and unforgiveable.
  20. While you are singing the praises of All Star 2b Brian Roberts, let us all take in a moment of silence in honor of the greatness that is Cesar Izturis. Afterall, Cesar was an All Star. Steve Swisher reporting for All-Star duty.
  21. They need somebody to fill that role now that Prior's gone. :D
  22. That "stupid rule" is called copyright law.
  23. I agree. I always thought Wrigley Field was named for the original William Wrigley, not the gum company.
  24. There's a near-100% chance I'll go (the only way I won't is if that's when I'm taking a vacation, and I'll try to work my vacation around the game). I always go to at least a couple of games a year at that stadium when the Smokies (and previously the Jaxx) are in town.
