  1. For some reason you had "disable smilies" checked. I unchecked it, and now the smilie is there.
  2. I may have to subscribe to DirecTV's Sports Pack so I can watch this. I can always cancel after a month, so it's probably worth it.
  3. As I'm sure somebody else has already said, this makes the most financial sense for IU considering the clause in Sampson's contract about violations. If they do it now they'll get hit with the wrongful termination suit, but if they just suspend him now and wait until the June hearing/conviction to axe him they're fine. I've read that the state of Indiana doesn't have the same laws as Ohio. Thus you can fire Sampson for any reason without being subjected to the same penalties that OSU was with O'Brien. I'm sure they could fire him for any reason. It's just that, without the clause kicking in, they'd still have to pay his salary. If they want to fire him and stop paying him they'd have to let due process run its course. At this time the violations are only alleged, so the clause wouldn't kick in yet.
  4. They aren't making all the face masks 15 yards. What they are doing is making the incidental face mask not a penalty whatsoever. If a player just grabs and releases the face mask immediately, he will not be penalized next year if the rule change goes into effect. That was my interpretation too. Basically no harm, no foul.
  5. I resurrected that rant a day or so ago when the news came out that the NCAA made its allegations. I think it's an absolute given that Samscum, it's just a question of when. There's a clause in his contract that IU can fire him if he's found guilty of any violations, but from a legal angle I'd think they'd need to wait until due process runs its course since for now, technically at least, they're only allegations which theoretically could be refuted.
  6. Because he saved the Cubs.
  7. Step 6-Cubs win division.Step 7-Cubs win first round of playoffs. Step 8-Cubs win NLCS. Step 9-Cubs win World Series. Step 10-NCCubFan wakes up from dream.
  8. Ball State lost again, to Akron. 2-8 in the MAC, 3-19 overall.
  9. One of those two games will probably be the division clincher.
  10. According to Boys of Spring (a web site devoted specifically to Cubs' Spring Training) the full squad reports Feb. 18, with the first workout Feb. 19.
  11. The news on ESPN (scrolling at the bottom of the screen during the IU-UI game) indicated that he was expected to be out until the All-Star break. He reportedly has a partially torn rotator cuff, although he's denying it.
  12. Basically the equivalent of referring to Lord Voldemort as "You-Know-Who" or "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" in the Harry Potter series.
  13. That was absolutely unacceptable and reprehensible. Times like those I wish IU still had Coach Knight. I remember a game in the 70s or 80s where some IU fans chanted "BS" (they didn't actually abbreviate it as I did) after a questionable call. Knight immediately got on the PA and said something like "This is Indiana University. We don't do that here." He got a huge cheer from the crowd.
  14. Anybody we know, or were you strictly a lurker? I was a regular at that joint in '01. Pretty much the only people I remember are you, NCCubFan...and that's about it as most seem to have changed their names. I never posted much, but when I did I was DiceMan. Played in a few yahoo fantasy leagues with people. Trying to make my comeback now. I don't remember you being in any of the fantasy leagues I was in, but I do remember you being in a Sporting News league I was in before I started participating in Yahoo. Some of the people from that league were Tehmpus (he organized it), Cubman15, BigbadB, and teencubfan.
  15. I can't remember all the teams I've seen. The parks I've seen games at are Wrigley, Comiskey Park (old), Busch Stadium (old), Riverfront Stadium, Camden Yards, Skydome, Olympic Stadium, Turner Field (aka Wrigley Field South), Great American Ballpark, and RFK Stadium. I've seen the Cubs play at Riverfront, Turner, Great American, and RFK. The others were just to watch a game when I was in town.
  16. He officiated at least one Ball State game I attended back when I was in school.
  17. I just see the ad at the bottom. I'm using prosilver.
  18. Nah, don't want to steal thunder from preparations for the Pro Bowl or the Daytona 500.
  19. I root for the TEAM more than individual players. Whoever will help the TEAM win the World Series is fine by me (I'm talking about the concept, not Barroids specifically). A century is WAY too long between championships. Beggars can't be choosers. I think most fans would care less if there are a few unlikeable players on the team when they finally win a title. i think everyone has their line for how "unlikeable" a guy can be before they don't want him on their team. i happen to draw the line before i get to barry bonds. he's a great player, but he's a complete dick, and i would have a hard time rooting for him. I'd have a hard time rooting for him personally too. What I meant is that, if a player helps the Cubs win, one can be happy with the outcome even if they don't care for the specific player.
  20. There is actually a North Carolina Central, but that has nothing to do with the Cubs. :D
  21. The sports report on the news tonight indicated that is was a high ankle sprain, and he's doubtful Wednesday. If it is much of a sprain I doubt he returns after just three days.
