  1. BTW, I'm almost sure Alamo Stealth won. I believe the two weeks were scored separately, and that the winner is determined by the combined score for the two weeks.
  2. The last couple of years it was Valentines Day. I like that, because it gives plenty of time to make post-season trades that might affect decisions on who to keep.
  3. Deep to right (or left, or center). Back, back, back, HEY-HEY! Jack Brickhouse is my all-time favorite announcer.
  4. Ball State started 5-0 in 1978 before suffering their only loss of the season to Louisiana Tech on their way to a 10-1 season (with no bowl bid, since the MAC was between contracts and didn't have any tie-in). That was the year Dave Wilson and Mark O'Connell shared the QB job and Brady and Jon Hoke were both defensive starters. I believe they wound up high enough in the "also receiving votes" category that they would have finished the season ranked if the rankings were for the top 25 rather than top 20 back then. I don't think they've even sniffed the rankings since then until this year.
  5. Finally they held on for a win. 2-2, with the Packers potentially in very serious trouble. The Bears are very much alive.
  6. with Extra Innings, you have to upgrade to the Super Fan package (or whatever it's called) to get the HD games That's true for Sunday Ticket as well. Even if someone subscribes to the regular HD service they still need to purchase the add-on packages for the sports subscriptions to get the games in HD.
  7. It says a lot that they can lose a player as good as Love and not miss a beat. And if they are ranked, I think it will be the first time in history that they're ranked in football (my freshman year, 1978, they wound up one of the top totals in the "also receiving votes" category, and I believe they would have been ranked if the rankings were top 25 back then instead of top 20). They have been ranked a couple of years in basketball (including at the end of the season in 1989, when it was still just the top 20).
  8. It says a lot that they can lose a player as good as Love and not miss a beat.
  9. Last year it was televised on WGN. Hopefully they'll do the same again this year.
  10. I want the Brewers to win (which is how I voted, since that's what the poll asked). I think the Phillies will win.
  11. Ball State is up to #29, right behind Kentucky, in both polls.
  12. Oops on the title of this thread. Looks like somebody was making a premature assumption and living up to the old saying about what it means to assume. :D
  13. I didn't see mention of this score in this thread: Ball State 41, Kent State 20. USC: Not undefeated. Florida: Not undefeated. OSU: Not undefeated. Georgia: Not undefeated. BSU: Undefeated.
  14. Neifi saved the Cubs. It was Sept. 27, 1998, when the Cubs' Wild Card hopes appeared to be dashed when the Cubs lost to Houston 4-3 in 11 innings while the Giants were leading the Rockies. However, the Rockies came back, and Neifi's home run in the 9th beat the Giants 9-8, forcing a one game playoff the next day between the Cubs and Giants for the Wild Card. The Cubs beat the Giants 5-3 to win the Wild Card (the only time to date that the Cubs made the playoffs via the Wild Card; 2004 should have been the second time). So Dusty was right about Neifi saving the Cubs; he was just a few years late. :D
  15. When the Cubs switched, it was because the fans just weren't supporting the team in Jackson (I think they were always at or near the bottom of the league in attendance). The Marlins switching from Carolina to Jacksonville was because theywanted the team to be located closer to the parent team (understandable, since callups from AA straight to the majors are fairly common these days). I don't know the reason for the other moves this time, but a lot of times it is because a minor league city opens up closer to the parent team's home.
  16. Now the article itself says he has Mitochondrial Myopathy, which is recognized by the Muscular Distrophy Association, but the headline still says he actually has MD.
  17. June 23, 1970. Mets 12, Cubs 10 in 10 innings. The Mets scored 7 in the 4th and the Cubs scored 5 in the 5th. The Cubs led 10-8 going into the 9th, but the Mets scored 2 in the 9th to tie the game and 2 more in the 10th to win (a 2-run home run by catcher Duff Dyer, who had entered the game when starting catcher Jerry Grote was removed for a pinch hitter). All 4 late-inning runs were scored off of reliever Phil Regan (back then relief pitchers frequently pitched multiple innings, before the day of the 1-inning closer). We had to leave the game after the 9th because I had a Boy Scout meeting that evening, but we heard the damage in the 10th on the car radio on the way home. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN197006230.shtml
  18. I remember earlier it was mentioned that it would be at the Daley Plaza. I don't remember the time. I think it was mentioned during WGN's coverage of the clinching.
  19. Several changes in affiliation were announced for the Southern League over the past couple of weeks. The Marlins switched from Carolina to Jacksonville, the Dodgers from Jacksonville to Chattanooga, and the Reds from Chattanooga to Carolina. This ends a 22-year association between the Reds and Chattanooga.
  20. Didn't know there was a fantasy sports forum. Not that its anything to whine about oh wait you just did. I guess it really is a HUGE deal I put it in social rather fantasy sports. The NSBB fantasy football thread where you told NCCF not to let me back next year is in the Fantasy Sports forum. Zing!
  21. I approve of this move (maybe Ball State homerism on my part). The Cubs need a BSU prospect to make up for the disappointment of Luke Hagerty.
  22. No, I didn't miss a step, I just forgot how to count.
  23. There's a good chance that Fukudome isn't even on the playoff roster. No there isn't.
  24. My favorite team, Bears.....lost. My second favorite team, Colts.....lost. My third favorite team, Panthers.....lost. Not a good Sunday. :x
  25. An Indy Star article on the game, posted just a few minutes ago.
