  1. Amen. The Cubs' responsibility is to their own chances, not to other teams. It's the Brewers' own responsibility for not winning a few more games (especially against teams like the Reds) and making it a completely moot point. That's why I said the Cubs should outright forfeit if they've clinched (although I think going through the motions by playing forfeit lineups would be more likely). If they're not going to actually forfeit the next best thing would be to tell the players who will be on the postseason roster for the NLDS not to even bother reporting, call up eveybbody on the 40-man roster who hasn't already been called up, and make do with 15 players. They could do that by not pinch-hitting, making any defensive replacements, and no double switches. They'd need three starters at most, so they could get by with a short pitching staff.
  2. Even though Ike is expected to have no impact on North Carolina weather (not even remnant rains) it may keep me from going to the game anyway. There's a real gas crisis in the area (many stations out of gas, others charging over $4 per gallon, a few reportedly even over $5), and if it sounds like that may continue I'm not sure I want to make a trip that's about three hours in each direction with that uncertainty. I'll be watching the news for reports tonight and will probably decide at the last minute tomorrow. If it were anybody other than the Bears (and maybe the Colts) playing at Carolina I would have already decided not to go and just write off the cost of the ticket (which is a sunk cost anyway).
  3. Selig should be fired immediately over this idiocy. Completely unforgiveable. If the games aren't played before the end of the regular season and the Cubs have clinched by then they seriously should just forfeit the games and be properly rested for the playoffs. It's not their responsibility to tire themselves out to accommodate other teams when the situation could easily have been prevented.
  4. Or Cardinal fans.So...Idiots. Good point.
  5. Yup, the Panthers are always a tough draw. The Colts just didn't plain show up last week, and the Bears overpowered them. But the Panthers will show up. Games against Carolina seem to be the most exciting, at least for me, since I live in NC. So I can't wait till we *hopefully* blow their brains out. I'll probably be one of the few people in the stadium rooting for the Bears.
  6. So good you're having a rematch this week.
  7. That's an unlucky move, not a dumb move.
  8. All in all a good minor league season. Daytona won the FSL and Iowa made the PCL playoffs even though they didn't win. Hopefully that means three teams within the organization will play in the postseason. :D
  9. First outright championship, but they were co-champions in 2004 when the championship series was cancelled due to a hurricane.
  10. No there isn't. If a new choice is added it's really a new poll and it starts over.
  11. I scored 70 points today. TBA doesn't stand a chance!
  12. My expectations have been officially revised from historic failure to the 2001 Carolina Panthers. In that season the Panthers began the season with a road win vs. the previous year's NFC Championship runner up (the Vikings), only to lose the next 15 games in disappointing fashion. I also like to keep expectations as low as possible for as long as possible to avoid expecting too much. I remember the 2001 Panthers season very well. It was George Seifert's last season as head coach. Chris Weinke was the starting QB (that explains it all) because Steve Beuerline, a Pro Bowl player the previous year, missed the entire season due to injury. They got the #2 overall pick for the 2002 draft (the expansion Houston Texans were given the top pick) and drafted Julius Peppers. Two years later they were in the Super Bowl.
  13. Dennis Green begs to differ. :D
  14. Or Cardinal fans.
  15. I gave you a hard time over that on the Survival Football board. I also picked the Chargers this week, but since the Panthers are my third team (behind the Bears and Colts) it's not the same level of shame. :D
  16. I'm going to the game. With both teams pulling off upsets on the road this week the game is suddenly looking more interesting than I previously thought. If the Bears start 2-0 with two road wins over playoff contenders it will definitely be time for people to reassess expectations for this year.
  17. 10 people eliminated in Survival Football the first week. Most of them picked the Chargers or Colts.
  18. I wonder if he'll get sent back to Daytona for tomorrow's game since Iowa lost. Bad baseball day for me today (except for Daytona), good football day (Bears and Panthers winning).
  19. He played in Japan for a few years.
  20. I'll take the wild card over no playoffs, but I'd much rather win the division and have home field advantage regardless of the opposition. There isn't a team in the league that the Cubs can't beat at home.
  21. It hasn't been happening over the last week. It has been happening over the course of the entire season.
  22. Perfect score for me this week in the College Football Pick'em contest, including correctly picking ECU over WVU. \:D/
  23. I was listening to the game on XM radio (unfortunately it was the Reds feed) while watching the Ball State-Navy game on television. The Reds' announcers were talking about it. It was definitely hilarious. Considering that Lou once managed the Reds you'd think he'd know where Cincinnati is.
  24. Huh. Is it just one year? Any idea if it's neutral or at either Mizzou/SIU? It's a 1-AA opponent, it's going to be in Columbia. Hmm...I don't think I realized SIU was 1-AA. They arent, they are Div 1 - Championship Subdivision. And dont make this mistake again, either of you. :club: :club: :club: Um, no, they aren't. They're the Football Championship Subdivision, and don't YOU make this mistake again. :D
  25. Oh jeez. The Cubs are in their worst stretch of the year, yet they still have the best record in the NL and tied for the most wins in the majors, and we're talking about losing first place? Wow.
