Amen. The Cubs' responsibility is to their own chances, not to other teams. It's the Brewers' own responsibility for not winning a few more games (especially against teams like the Reds) and making it a completely moot point. That's why I said the Cubs should outright forfeit if they've clinched (although I think going through the motions by playing forfeit lineups would be more likely). If they're not going to actually forfeit the next best thing would be to tell the players who will be on the postseason roster for the NLDS not to even bother reporting, call up eveybbody on the 40-man roster who hasn't already been called up, and make do with 15 players. They could do that by not pinch-hitting, making any defensive replacements, and no double switches. They'd need three starters at most, so they could get by with a short pitching staff.
