  1. The Puppy Bowl will never be the same. RIP; I enjoyed Harry even though I'm not a Phillies fan. I heard him more on the NFL Films programs.
  2. You're describing me last week. If I had yesterday's starts by Lohse and Harang in my lineup and Cook's first start and Volquez's start on my bench things would have been a lot different (I'm not sure if it would have been enough for me to win, but it would have been closer and I would have outscored the entire West, I believe). This week I only have 7 starts scheduled, so I need to hope for no injuries and no weekend rainouts.
  3. The lineup, yes. The results, no. I think that's because a lot of Dust has been removed from the team since 2006. Getting back to Bradley: Resting him doesn't concern me given the bad weather today and the off day tomorrow. If he still isn't playing by Wednesday or Thursday check back then.
  4. I say it both ways at times. Not including that as an option is a fatal flaw in this poll. I doubt that anybody refers to them EXCLUSIVELY as "we" rather than "the Cubs."
  5. A couple more: Garry Templeton ("If I ain't starting, I ain't departing") and Derek Bell (Operation Shutdown).
  6. Over 100 pitching points on my bench today (thanks mainly to complete game shutouts by Lohse and Harang). I had four pitchers starting but had already used 6 of my 7 for the week. I was so far behind that making the wrong choice really didn't hurt me.
  7. I also think Leo Durocher deserves consideration as manager or a coach, for his irrational hatred of Ernie Banks (I believe it was jealosy over Ernie's popularity) as well as going AWOL on the team during the heat of the pennant race (if I remember correctly it was to visit his future wife's son at summer camp).
  8. If we're going all-time Juan Marichal is an absolute must on this list for bashing John Roseboro's skull with his bat.
  9. And me in another league.
  10. Too bad the Cubs themselves didn't sign him to a minor league deal after he cleared waivers and hoped that he could work out his problems in Iowa. He could have come in handy later in the season if he could right himself.
  11. Wieters also had one of the base-runners thrown out, but nobody was covering the bag so it went into center field His only mistake there was possibly using poor judgment and throwing to an empty base.
  12. Some pictures I took at the game (I'm putting them inside spoiler tags for those with slow dial-up connections):
  13. Dick Allen probably belongs on the team. I remember he was largely considered a jerk during his playing days.
  14. Not really (at least for now), since this is about EFFECTIVE 2-pitch pitchers.
  15. Perhaps the solution is to use Marmol in the 9th with a 1-run lead (assuming he hasn't already pitched) and Gregg with a 2-run or 3-run lead where there's a bit more room for error.
  16. I went too. I was down the right field line past first base. It's nice to have both AA and AAA baseball within an hour or less drive (especially when the AA team is in the same league as the Cubs' AA team).
  17. I think this game deserves its own thread; it's not every day that BA's #1 and #2 prospects play against each other (in BA's home town, no less). Price pitched 3 2/3 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs (both earned), 1 HR allowed, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Wieters was 0 for 4 (reached on an error) with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk (0 for 1 with a walk against Price). He also committed a throwing error on a stolen base (the runner reached third). Officially the Bulls were 2 for 2 in stolen bases, but the first one was completely on the pitcher (he already had the base stolen when the ball reached the plate and Wieters didn't even throw). As an aside, former Cubs' 2000 wasted 1st round draft pick Luis Montanez and former Cub Scott Moore were in the starting lineup for Norfolk, and former Cub farmhand Ray Sadler (the player traded to Pittsburgh in 2003 for Randall Simon) was in the starting lineup for Durham. I took a few pictures, which I'll post in the next few days once I get them uploaded.
  18. I see the Cubs traded Rhee to the Angels, and the Angels converted him from pitcher to catcher. :D
  19. Sunday afternoon through Monday morning. You can adjust pitchers whenever you want. You can also make changes for future dates by clicking on the week from the top of your team page, then clicking on the day. That can be helpful for somebody that might be travelling and without Internet access for awhile.
  20. Just a reminder that you have until midnight Pacific time today (or tomorrow, depending on your time zone) to enter or make changes to your existing roster. After that you're stuck with your roster, for better or worse, for the rest of the season.
  21. You think our players have a better chance to score runs when down late as opposed to being up late? No, but I think they have a better chance of scoring when the game is still in progress than when the game is over.
  22. Norfolk (with Matt Wieters) at Durham (with David Price starting) Saturday. They were supposed to play Friday but the game was rained out. I'm planning to go to the game; I live about an hour from the Durham ballpark.
  23. um no. but nice effort! =D> http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/5c/DVader.jpeg Turn to the Dark Side. Fulfill your destiny.
  24. If they're blown in the 7th inning, there's still time to come back with the Cubs' offense. If they're blown in the 9th (at least on the road), game over.
  25. He's blown the job. One or two shaky outings, maybe you can overlook. But every outing from the beginning of the season, no way (even this early). Mr. Marmol, your table is ready.
