  1. If Lawson were still injured I'd think you'd have a real shot. With him back I think UNC SHOULD win, but in any given game you never know.
  2. I thought Sandoval was playing 3B every day in SF? 3B production and C eligibility? Me likey. Looks like you're right; I just looked at the Giants' depth chart on ESPN and it shows him #1 at 3B and #3 at C. That's definitely a good fantasy combination to have.
  3. Paging Meph to correct the spelling. :D
  4. Fewer HD channels than DirecTV, no MLB Extra Innings, no NFL Sunday Ticket. Three strikes; they're out.
  5. I've read that he never actually signed a formal contract with Kentucky (refused to, some say), so wouldn't that mean he's not legally entitled to anything? I read that too, but my understanding of law is that an oral agreement is just as binding as a written one, just not as easy to enforce because there's nothing to document it.
  6. I read that Kentucky is not planning to pay Gillespie the $6 million buyout his agreement calls for. That might provide some credibility to the rumors. If there wasn't something fishy going on with him and they were just firing him because of not winning enough I think they'd be obligated to pay the buyout.
  7. I agree with Shoppach. I've read that he'll get a fair amount of playing time, with V-Mart spending some time at 1B or DH. Sandoval is behind Molina for SF.
  8. Napoli as your only catcher that's actually in the major leagues, not so good.
  9. Surfing the internet is "work friendly"? Sure it is. Taking time out to surf the net every now and then helps people relax, therefore making them more productive during the rest of the day.
  10. ANY more bickering or snide comments aimed at other posters and this thread gets locked too.
  11. Sounds like what they really needed was Smith as head coach with Gillespie as top assistant in charge of recruiting. Donovan would be a great choice if they can pry him away from Florida. Ford was a player on the team during part of the time I was at UK as a graduate student. Another possibility that comes to my mind is John Pelphrey (I'm not sure where he's at now). He was on the team around the same time as Ford (I don't remember if they overlapped any, but if not they were only a year or so apart).
  12. #2 in Roadkill, #174,174 nationally for me. I have the highest possible score among those who picked UNC to win it all, so if the Heels go all the way I could have my second Roadkill group championship.
  13. It was pointed out in another thread that Harvey would have needed to agree to becoming a pitcher, and apparently he didn't want to do so. If that is the case, then Harvey prolly will never see the majors. I agree.
  14. They don't seem to be available this year. Your best bet might be to check your local CBS station's web site to see if the schedule's listed or maybe even call the station (the web site probably has the telephone number listed).
  15. I purchased mine by calling the Vineline telephone number, which is actually for all Cubs publications. Unfortunately I don't have that number available, and it isn't listed on cubs.com under the Vineline link. If anybody had a copy of Vineline and can look it up and post it, it's the telephone number given for subscribing to Vineline. You might also check eBay; people frequently sell media guides there.

  17. But we did get 1 unproductive season out of Juan Pierre in the deal. I hope this doesnt go down in history as another Brock for Bolio type of deal. I'm guessing that Ricky isn't HOF-bound. To be fair, Brock shouldn't have been either. Speaking of HOF bound, to be fair, we did get young Ryne Samberg as a throw in for Ivan DeJesus. Dallas Green said years later that Sandberg really wasn't a throw-in, he was the player the Cubs were actually interested in. They just billed it as DeJesus for Bowa with Sandberg as a throw-in so Sandberg wouldn't feel pressure the same he might if he thought he was the main target. Regardless, it was one of the biggest steals of all-time. If I were Dallas Green, I'd say the same thing. Haha. Yeah, let's see when he actually made that quote. My recollection is that he made it after Sandberg showed that he was a good player, and after Bowa retired, but before Sandberg became a superstar. That's a long time ago, so my memory could be a bit off.
  18. Oops; paying attention to the actual dates and matchups can be a good thing.

  20. And sometime in the next 6 years they shift to the AL so the Cubs can beat them in the 2015 World Series.
  21. Quoted for hilarity and for Truthiness: "Did you know, Jerry, that generations of Chicago kids have grown up not realizing that quarterback ratings go higher than 70.0? You see them in parks and backyards across the region emulating their heroes by throwing wobbly passes and practicing hand-offs." God, is that ever the truth. I only really started following the team closely at the beginning of the Harbaugh era, and it has been mediocrity at QB the entire time. You'd think at some point Angelo would at least blindly stumble his way into acquiring a good QB, but no. I'm trying to think of another team that has spent the last 20 years without having had a good-great QB at any point during, but I am having a hard time. Quit complaining. I grew up in the Bob Avellini era. Quit complaining, yourself. I grew up in the Bobby Douglass era. I remember when the quarterback battles were Douglass vs. Jack Concannon and Avellini vs. Gary Huff. I also remember Douglass trying to make it as a pitcher in the White Sox organization after his football career ended.
  22. I believe this site has the information you're looking for. It includes Thursday only; I'd think they'll add Friday later.
  23. I admit to violating the NSBB GroupThinkPact and voting based on my own thoughts whenever possible  You know better than that. [-X
  24. No doubt about that. They'll pay what it takes to get a player they want, slot recommendations be damned.
  25. I still need to have Rhee added to the database too. All of my other picks are already in the database.
