  1. Along with Lance Dickson, Mike Harkey, etc.
  2. I'm thinking of going to Durham tonight to see David Price's first start of the year. I have the opposite weather issue to contend with, whether expected rain holds off long enough.
  3. Have the Chiefs been affiliated with the Cubs long enough yet for you to be converted to a Cubs fan? :D
  4. But somebody else nailed it here first. :Di meant raw's reasoning That he does have me beat on, since mine was just a hunch.
  5. That seems like an awfully low number of complete games for that era. Actually he only started 36 games that year; he also appeared in 12 games as a reliever (finishing 11 of them). Back then it was common for starting pitchers to also pitch in relief between starts.
  6. correction: Best team in the history of baseball. I am embarrassed by my egregious mistake. Please don't ban me. Just don't let it happen again. [-X
  7. People who believe that the baseball gods hate Milton are the same people who believe in the goat curse or that Bartman lost the 2003 NLCS.
  8. But somebody else nailed it here first. :D
  9. Weber can't recruit! Maybe that's because he spends too much time moonlighting as a writer. :D
  10. Bring out the Banhammer if that happens. :D
  11. No DL stint for Soto. His MRI reveals nothing more than minor inflammation in the biceps area. He will miss at least the first two games against Milwaukee, possibly all three.
  12. According to the Bears' website, yes.
  13. I'm getting absolutely torched. Down by more than 100 points, and that's with my opponent having a 30+ point pitching start on his bench. Not an encouraging start to the season.
  14. He shouldn't be surprised, though. There's been talk all along of sending him down so he could be kept stretched out as a starter for when the Cubs need one.
  15. Dae-Eun Rhee is the only player I need to have added.
  16. You can't go a week with one catcher, especially one with no track record and a mangled hand. Good point, but my other option (sending Gathtight down and bringing up Johnson) should work. I'd rather be without Gathright for 10 days (the minimum length of a minor league assignment) that Soto for 15. I'd be fine with that, but doesn't he have to clear waivers? Is he out of options? If so it might need to be Hoffpauir instead. I was thinking in terms of optioning Gathright, but maybe that's not possible.
  17. Had to have been roids. Nobody's that much better than the entire rest of the league. :D

  19. Nah, give them until after Easter to declare them out of it. :D
  20. Just a hunch with nothing to back it up, but my feeling is that Jones will likely be the best this year. Long-term I'd say probably Maybin or Snider (again just a hunch). I have all three of them on one of my teams (and I mean all three on the same team).
  21. I disagree with Lou. If Soto can return in a week you don't DL him and lose him for 15 days. You go with Hill full time or else send Gathright down temporarily and call up Johnson.
  22. The tragic irony of this is that it came right after he had his best major league start last night (6 shutout innings before the bullpen choked on a 4-0 lead and lost 6-4). Today's game was understandable postponed. This brings back memories of Daryl Kile's death right before the game with the Cubs (although under different circumstances).
  23. Actually Jesus retired after the 1979 season.
  24. Harry Kalas still does play-by-play for Philadelphia I think. He's the narrator for NFL Films, so he definitely matches your description. Dude, you're right! That's totally him! I think I'll make a point to watch a few more Phillies games this year just for him. There's also a CD available about Harry. He's one of the more recent additions to Pat Hughes' Baseball Voices series.
  25. Yes, when the bad spring is on the heels of a bad end to the previous season.
