  1. Robert has a 4-1 start advantage on me at this point. Barring a colapse of my starting pitching, I'm hoping to be ok this week. We'll soon see! I need for you to have a couple starts similar to what I got from Cook. That's being greedy... You only have one bad start thus far, and I have a not so good one from Roy. Greed is good!
  2. A couple of you posted questions in this thread. The actual questions should go in the thread under Chat Schedule/Questions for Guests.

  4. Tank with the Bengals. Perfect.
  5. Thanks for participating again. What Cubs' newcomer (either from another team or from the minor leagues) do you think will be the most pleasant surprise this year? And the flip side of that, what former Cub that isn't back this year do you think will be missed the most?
  6. Yes. You want hitters with a low batting average and pitchers with a high ERA, but combined with a lot of at-bats for hitters and innings pitched for pitchers, because they are weighting factors in the scoring system.
  7. UK guard Jodie Meeks has declared for the NBA draft. He has not hired an agent, so he can change his mind.
  8. This time don't reject the trade; just leave it pending and it can expire when the designated period passes without your responding.
  9. If he does it might be to himself.
  10. I'm considering putting Fukudome on my Hacking Mass team before rosters lock. That says it all.
  11. If yesterday was any indication I may need to reconsider Izturis as my shortstop. Perhaps I should also consider putting Fukudome on my team.
  12. Tell me about it. He really stunk up the joint today. In another league I have both Cook and Webb. At least Harang had a good performance today (despite losing), so maybe he's back in form this year.
  13. I'm in two Yahoo leagues. Both of them reflect last night's game.
  14. Frank TV has been cancelled, so at least we'll be spared those commercials.
  15. Even apart from the playoffs, he could spend 90 days on the active roster and the rest of the season on the DL.
  16. Now Z claims he was misquoted.
  17. It's at least close to that. Cubs' Opening Day and the NCAA championship game both in the same evening.
  18. I'm currently in 9th place. If UNC wins I move up to 6th; if MSU wins I stay in 9th.
  19. I think the reason a player has to clear waivers first is that the main purpose of Rule V is to protect a player who is blocked in his current system. Requiring a player to clear waivers before being returned to his original team provides some protection because it opens up the possibility of another team claiming him and keeping him in the majors rather than being returned to his original team and getting sent back down. If nobody is willing to keep him in the majors then his original team gets him back and can send him down. And I think that applies to trades because, until he is returned to his original team, they can't trade his rights because they don't have his rights to trade.
  20. The only way they could have done that would be if he first cleared waivers. I think some pitching-starved non-contender (e.g. Pittsburgh or San Diego) would have claimed him and kept him on the roster with the hope he'd contribute in the future. No, they could've sent something to Colorado to get his full rights. Incorrect. He would have to pass through waivers BEFORE Colorado could trade him. That's what I thought, but I'm not 100% certain of all the nuances of Rule V. My understanding is that another team could claim him but would then be subject to the same restrictions to keep him.
  21. Nothing does. It's just in case the Opening Day game gets rained out, then they can replay it the next day on the scheduled off day. As has already been announced for tomorrow's Royals at White Sox game. It gives people with Opening Day tickets the chance to attend the game a day later, whereas if there were no day off between then those people would lose out on attending Opening Day because others would already have tickets.
  22. Yes, because many people consider it demeaning to mentally challenged people. You could call Turner a moron instead.
  23. The only way they could have done that would be if he first cleared waivers. I think some pitching-starved non-contender (e.g. Pittsburgh or San Diego) would have claimed him and kept him on the roster with the hope he'd contribute in the future.
  24. Time to assemble your dream team of stiffs. Enter here and post your team in this thread. Winner gets $399 plus a signed, framed reproduction of a photo of Bud Selig. Top 10 finishers get a one-year subscription to Baseball Prospectus Premium. As in the past you can't actually set up a group, so we'll have to keep track by periodically posting results in here. My team is Stiffs 'R' Us: C--Jason Kendall 1B--Billy Butler 2B--Mark Ellis 3B--Billy Hall SS--Cesar Izturis LF--Wladimir Balentien CF--Willy Taveras RF--Austin Kearns P--Adam Eaton P--Barry Zito You have until midnight Pacific time Sunday, April 12 (Easter) to enter or to change your picks. After that rosters are locked for the season.
  25. The only way I trade Reyes is for an absolute superstar (or if I somehow got super lucky and had both Reyes and Hanley Ramirez on my team). No way do I make that trade.
