  1. I don't want Samardzija's arm wasted as a reliever without getting a shot at starting first. Without Jeff, the Cubs have one of the best starting staffs in MLB. Without Jeff the pen is just a notch above average. I'll take Samardzija in the pen. He should be in AAA starting so that he can take a rotation spot next year or later this year if someone gets hurt. I think it's more like WHEN someone gets hurt. I can't see them going the entire year without any starting pitcher missing some time. And I agree with keeping Samardz stretched out at Iowa for then.
  2. no, they better be rooting for butler. brainfart and cleveland state is up 57-54 with 14 seconds left. it's over. have fun in the NIT, Penn State They're solidly on the bubble. Win 2 in the tourney, they're probably safe. Problem is, after Indiana they'd face MSU, right? A moot point. Indiana is the Big Ten's answer to DePaul. Bye bye PSU.
  3. Maybe in the bullpen, but hopefully not in the word filter!!! Bullheilman! :-))
  4. Looks like Raw picked up two prospects on Roadkill without posting here. So we're now into the second round snaking backwards.
  5. I enjoyed it despite a few previously mentioned quibbles (Cedeno, Miles, Ceda). I was a bit surprised Mark Grace was chosen as the all-time greatest first baseman over Frank Chance or Cap Anson.
  6. Emergency #3 catcher, yes. Backup catcher, no.
  7. My understanding is that you cannot add any prospects until the next draft unless those prospects are called up to the majors. So you'd be limited to 7 minor leaguers until the next prospect draft. However, you'd then be able to draft 3 prospects without having to release any of your current prospects since you'd already be under the limit. I believe it was mentioned earlier that the prospect draft would be 3 rounds, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
  8. Just a reminder that the Cubs are on 30 Teams in 30 Days this Tuesday. It airs at 5:30 P.M. Eastern time and repeats Wednesday morning at 1:30 A.M. Eastern time.
  9. I'm pretty sure I know who you'll take. :) If I did my homework correctly there's only one Rays player in BA's top 100 not currently on a Roadkill roster.
  10. I pick Jason Castro, C, Houston Astros. He was in the database so I added him to my team.
  11. Troll!
  12. I've seen that happen quite a bit, especially for split squad games. Being sent to minor league camp doesn't mean they can only play in minor league games.
  13. They desperately needed a Reyes since they no longer have Anthony.
  14. I'm moving this to General Baseball Discussion since it isn't a transaction.
  15. Damian Jackson and Enrique Wilson say hi.
  16. My memory of what was explicitly stated was correct. My interpretation may well be flawed. I remembered the rule that, if you draft a player who has yet to play in the major leagues and he doesn't make an opening day roster, then you have to release him. I was reading into that (quite possibly incorrectly) that he then has to be carried on the major league roster. But you correctly pointed out that wasn't stated; I was just reading between the lines.
  17. Yes, Steve Howe has fallen.
  18. "Show me Kill The Flies."
  19. so you're saying he should be a quitter? Not a quitter but a realist. He could take one more year off and test the waters of the private sector, continue to work out and then come into 2010 with a fresh approach Or he could realize that the Padres are paying him more than he'd make in the private sector (especially in the current economy) and continue trying as long as somebody feels he still has a chance and is willing to pay him. I'll go with my option over yours.
  20. It's not really a sophomore season for Hamilton. He played for the Reds in 2007 and the Rangers last year. So this is more like his third season (he did miss some of 2007 with injuries, but he still played enough that last year can't really be considered his rookie year).
  21. I believe what we actually said before the draft started is that somebody that's never played in the major leagues before but is expected to make an opening day roster can be drafted for the major league roster, but must be dropped if he doesn't make the opening day roster. But players couldn't be drafted for the minor league roster until the prospect draft. So that would mean (if I recall the previous discussion correctly) that Tim could draft him now, put him on the major league roster, and be out of luck if he gets sent to the minors to open the season. Alternatively, if nobody drafted him for their major league roster, somebody could have taken him in the prospect draft and put him on the minor league roster.
  22. He's also expected back in the outfield on Friday.
  23. I thought that was Bob Watson.
  24. If you are referring to me, I'm not sure what you are referring to. I've never had Mark DeRosa on my roster. You must be confusing me with someone else. It's me that has DeRosa on my roster. And abuck has it backwards. I plan to play him at 2B (which he has eligibility at based on previous years) even though he was signed by Cleveland to play 3B. not really my point...i just don't think that tim stashing the japanese guy in his minor league system is any more skirting the rules than using a guy with multiple position eligibility...derosa was just the first guy i thought of. I agree with that. Both cases are examples of doing what's within the rules as stated.
  25. The one part of your question I can answer is that 2009 draft prospects are not included. The players have to already be in the Sportsline database. If a prospect appears on the list of free agents he can be drafted.
