I enjoy fantasy baseball, but I'm already in three leagues (two conventional Yahoo leagues and a keeper league on CBS Sportsline), so I feel maxed out.

I still have one reserve spot to fill, so I'll draft in the 11th round (I traded my 10th round pick). Whether I draft in the 12th round will depend on whether there are any potential DL stashees left that might be useful in the future. I also would be willing to trade my 12th round pick for a pick in next year's draft if anybody is still looking to add picks.

I just realized that 4 of my 5 top 100 prospects I acquired in trades last year when I realized I wasn't in contention and started trading for the future. And the fifth (Brackman) I picked up on waivers when somebody else in the league released him. It would be nice if the Cubs could rebuild a farm system that quickly. :D

To stay healthy? Personally, I'm not prepared to go past that assuption (taking in to account the previous seasons). The easiest way back for him would probably be a bullpen role for at least one season, but I doubt he's willing to go that route - for now. You don't think he'd pitch out of the BP for year? I'm not so sure. I think he would, especially if it's for a partial season after spending the first part of the season rehabbing. He may not want to become a reliever permanently, but I think he would for now while working his way back. And if he wants to get paid he'd really have no choice if that's what his team tells him to do. -
Five of mine are (Bumgarner, Davis, Hernandez, Cardenas, and Brackman).

Agreed; it's easy to do a sign-and-trade when it's too late to trade the actual pick.

I've sent a PM to Tim asking whether he'd be interested in my next pick in exchange for a higher round pick in next year's draft, so I won't be picking until I hear back from him (within reason).

The most glaring omission to me was Tim Raines. I think he belongs. Otherwise I agree with the choices, especially Santo at #1 and Blyleven way up there too. I bet McGwire at #2 is the most controversial.

But he's only 28, so it's too soon to say he's not going to be able to make that road back. Maybe he can pitch some during the second half of this year, then pitch a full season in 2010. He's 28, not 38. -
The second of tonight's Prime 9 episoeds (9:30 P.M. Eastern time, etc.) features the top 9 players not in the Hall of Fame but eligible. It will be interesting to see where Ron Santo ranks (I'd think he'd be near the top). It will also be interesting to see if Andre Dawson is on the list.

There have been quite a few instances in the past where players were granted instant availability at their positions when they came out of spring training as the designated starter at a new position. which is not what the rules say. yet we're dissecting the language of the DL rule as it applies to sheets. We're doing that because, whether or not intended that way, the wording of the rule is absolutely clear-cut. If we were going to change it based on interpretation that really needed to be done BEFORE the draft started, not after. It's certainly valid to discuss that for the future, but for this year it would be unfair to change it now because somebody else would have drafted him earlier if we changed the rule.

I have the same thing with DeRosa, who's expected to play 3B with Cleveland. I drafted him with the intent of playing 2B, however, so unless Zimmerman starts the season injured and I want to slide DeRosa to third to fill in it's a non-issue with me.

I disagree with that. I think most of us simply understand what the rule clearly states, and it doesn't matter what owner is trying to get around the rule. From my perspective I stayed away from Sheets because I understand the rule and didn't want to free up a reserve spot for him (at least not this early); if he were eligible to be on a DL you never would have got him at this point because somebody (me, if nobody else) would have drafted him sooner. The fact that it's you specifically is irrelevant; it would have been the same issue if someone else drafted him and tried to DL him against clearly stated league rules. If you wanted to put him on your DL now in anticipation of him signing before the season, with the understanding that you then have to release him if he doesn't start the season on a major league disabled list, that's perfectly legal.

that's stupid. he's hurt. he's not playing. the reason he's not on a roster is because he's hurt. it makes no sense that i can't keep him on my DL, but if he signs with a team tomorrow i can put him on the DL. I'm not disagreeing with you, but that's how it's always been. It would certainly be unfair to change that rule now for this year after the draft has started, because someone would likely have taken him earlier in the draft if they knew they could put him on their DL. If he signs with somebody before the season starts and places him on a major league DL then you're OK.
