  1. well, 1 out of 16 getting screwed ain't bad. as punishment, I will drop one prospect from your team at random . . . . I pick Baumgarner - is he any good? He looks very good, but is still in A-ball (expected to open this year in high-A). I'm not sure if you were serious about that or not (it's hard to tell sometimes over the Internet), but if you were that seems fair to me, since it was my mistake. I may be able to pick him back up in the minor league draft.
  2. I like the way it has been, but that's probably pretty predictable since I've probably made heavier use of prospects than anyone else under the current system. yea, but if you look at some of the new managers, they are kind of hosed by the current system. at this point, the prospect rosters are pretty well developed to the point where we could probably just do it by waivers. the sticking point is, what is a prospect and what isn't when it comes to the draft? Should we make it like Rule 5 - if you draft them they have to stay on your major league roster all year? Or is there some other rule that would work? I dunno about Rule 5, lets just say that anyone who meets the requirements to be in the minor leagues is a prospect. They cannot be drafted in the major league draft. That would be a valid definition for purposes of this league. That would allow us to work out the specifics for a minor league draft while also beginning the major league draft. no, I don't like that because players like david price then couldn't be picked and that would be silly (not that these guys are generally available anyway). A variation might be to say that if you draft a player that still is minor league eligible in the major league phase you have to keep him on your major league roster or release him unless he actually gets sent down to the minor leagues.
  3. I like the idea too. That puts everybody on equal footing as opposed to losing out on prospects because Tim piles up draft picks and overdrafts them. :D Speaking of prospects, I still need to have my previous prospects restored. It would be torture to start off with no prospects because I made a mistake on a new procedure that we hadn't used before.
  4. My minor leaguers have all disappeared. ETA: I've figured out that what happened is that I carelessly forgot to designate my minor leaguers as keepers; this is the first time we've done it this way, and I think I assumed that the minor leaguers would automatically be kept since that is a separate roster. Fortunately I had a record of who my minor leaguers were, so I sent Juan a PM asking him to restore my minor leaguers.
  5. Cooperstown is waiting. :D
  6. If that happens I think we should reinstate her for the comic value of her reaction.
  7. And don't forget about the signing of a top-notch closer, Dave Smith.
  8. Pie is still minor league eligible; he hasn't had a major league season with 200 or more at-bats yet. You should be able to do it yourself, just by selecting Minor Leagues from the drop-down menu and re-setting your lineup (even though it seems like you can't drop players, you can still change the status of your players).
  9. [-X It's definitely worth watching.
  10. If I were a betting man I'd bet that nobody comes closer to 2000 points.
  11. My final keeper roster: Victorino Hardy Garko (exempt) Hermida (exempt) Willingham (exempt) Zimmerman Volquez (exempt) Jackson Harang (hoping for a bounceback year) Gallaraga (exempt) Total, 1804 points
  12. So you think the Red Sox (the team Henry owns) should sign him. :D
  13. So it took you becoming a moderator to get this moving. :D
  14. remember a couple of years ago MLB designated a "Fantasy Opening Day" where all the fantasy baseball providers opened for sign-ups the same day.
  15. You make a sacrifice to Modzilla. If he likes it, you're a moderator. If he doesn't like it.....
  16. With Hermida (still barely exempt by the slimmest of margins) on my team now I'll probably jettison former Cub (for about a week) Olson.
  17. He shouldn't be. His exempt years were 2005, 2006, and 2007. He would have been minor league eligible after 2005 (since he had fewer than 250 plate appearances), but based on the new rule, since he had more than 50, 2005 would have burned an exemption.
  18. Of all people, who would have thought that Jose Canseco would be the voice of reason? Damn, the cat's out of the bag - I've been exposed. Well payed !! =D> Yes, he was well payed for writing those kiss-and-tell books. :D
  19. Nor can Miguel Cabrera, Felix Hernandez, or Rich Hill.
  20. I think that's a good idea. When someone makes me an offer, if I'm still thinking it over after a day I'll let the other manager know so they at least know I got the offer and am considering it. On a rare occasion something unexpected can suddenly come up where someone is unexpectedly without Internet access, but generally if someone isn't going to have access for awhile they know it ahead of time.
  21. Off-season transactions and in-season call-ups and demotions should be the responsibility of the GM, although the GM should be welcome to seek input from the manager if he so chooses. Playing time decisions should be the manager's. Basically, I see the GM's job to be assembling the roster and the manager's job to use the roster.
  22. We do. Several people have been unable to drop players (see thread about rosters disappearing). Juan even mentioned the possibility of extending the deadline if the problems don't get resolved soon.
  23. Dempster was still with the Marlins in 2001. He joined the Cubs in 2004.
  24. As things stand now here's my keeper roster: Victorino Hardy Kouzmanoff Garko (exempt) Willingham (exempt) Zimmernam Volquez (exempt) Jackson Miner (exempt) Olson (yuck, but exempt) Total, 1896.2 points I already have to cut some good players to get under the cap (as most, if not all, of us need to). Therefore I've decided I'm not going to trade my #1 pick, because then I'd have to cut even more. I've done it the past few years, and it hasn't worked out very well for me, so this time I'm keeping it. With the lower point limit adopted a year ago it makes less sense to me to trade first-round picks during the offseason because there should be plenty of good players in the draft pool anyway. Trading it at midseason to help with a playoff push is altogether different in my mind. I haven't cut my non-keepers yet, so if anybody would be interested in a trade for one of my lower picks I'd listen (or possibly a player from my roster plus a lower pick for a better player).
