    I'm not worry about the outcome of today's game by any team, simply because the Cubs will be leading the division by atleast 4.5 games by the end of the day. I want to win, and the Cards/Brews to lose, but, I could live with a 4.5 game lead into the break.

    That's before the Cubs hit their stride. Play those two series NOW, and I promise you, the Cubs would be the minimum of 5-1 against the Brew crew.

    I know it's trivial, but when was the last time---if ever---did the Cubs have Canadians pitching back to back days?

    Beisdes if you don't let him pitch in the game, that is more time for him to pull pranks on everybody on the NL team. Capt'n America, I mean Ryan Dempster + All Star festivities/Game= Plenty of good stories to be told.

    The problem is that the possibility of fatigue or overuse being the culprit for Marmol's struggles seemingly hasn't even crossed Lou's mind. Marmol struggling? Let's give him more work! So the question is.....to get Lou to trust his other arms in the pen, should Hendry put Marmol on the DL?

    Don't be sure about that. There is an interview on Cubs board over at ESPN, that he states that he would like to get an inning in the game, because it would be his 'bullpen' day. So I suspect Dempster is going to pitch, all I hope for is...it's early in the game (2nd or 3rd preferably) and he doesn't tax himself.

    Don't know how credible it is, but..... Apparently, during the A's broadcast, they were talking (I believe Buster Olney reported it) about Huston Street and Matt Murton could be headed out of Oakland very soon.     Quite frankly, there isn't a 3rd baseman I would take over ARam.....right now, or for the foreseeible future.

    And yet, Fuld and Pierre have similar skillset. Fuld is a MUCH better defender, and Pierre is faster. Neither have power, nor should be starting. And yet, the Cubs traded three pitchers for Pierre, and refused to do anything with Fuld.

    Would I accept Brett Favre if he came to the Bears? Absolutely. To say otherwise, is delusional thinking. Favre at 37 yrs old, is better then Orton and Grossman. And the Bears already know what kind of QBs both Rex are Kyle are going to be. If the Bears got Favre, I would want for him, and accept him, just like Jim Edmonds with the Cubs.

    He's not an upgrade over what the Cubs currently have. If you are trading for another lefty reliever, he HAS to be an upgrade. Rhodes is not.

    The only team that might come close to that is Baltimore. And that is only because Angelos is so desparate for star power, that he'll overpay a local to come back to Baltimore to play. I expect any team to go over 5 yrs and 17 mill per, if that.

    Does this strike you as the knid of player you want for a very good Jason Bay?? And Vance, you and I both know, we've seen mediocre players make minor league All-Star games. And this kid that Heyman is reporting that is a "target" has a career .698 OPS. Not exactly a stud in the making, if you ask me. And I bet Heyman is wrong about him being the target. He might be someone who would be thrown into the deal, and maybe that's where Heyman got the name, but I'd bet that if there's a Bay deal to Arizona, Bonafacio will not be the centerpiece. Agreed. A Dback deal would have to centre around Jarrod Parker, or perhaps, maybe Chad Tracy. I know Tracy isn't a star, but he is a good enough player to be of use to the Pirates who could in turn trade LaRoche to a team for some prospects.

    Because Eyre can't stay healthy, and despite the numbers, Cotts isn't very good. His 1.57 WHIP doesn't do much for me.... Not to mention, neither player is someone you'd trust in a late game situation of a playoff game. I realize Cotts was unbelieveable in 2005, but he's been crap since, and Eyre, he's fine in mid relief, but I much rather have Fuentes, possibly, in the lefty set-up role.

    Why do you say this? It could be because, Bonifacio is projected as a utility player at best. And to target him in a deal for Bay, would/should/could remind Pirates fans of Littlefield's "ARam to the Cubs for Hill and change." So, if Huntington is really about being competitive, you have ask for Rasmus straight up in any deal.

    Year after year Sam Fuld was considered the most disciplined hitter in the Cubs Minor League system. For a team like Chicago, who until this season tended to be very aggressive at the plate, Fuld seemed to fill an obvious need. Combine that with quality defense at a position that demands it and I'd say that was enough to get excited about him. He's a 4th OF at best. He's pretty much been that way for a number of years now. The guy never had any power to speak of. And when does a Center Fielder or top of the order hitter need power to be acceptable in those roles? Seems to me Fuld's quality defense and plate discipline entering this season were more than enough to warrant all the hype he received. the problem with plate discipline and no power is that guys at the big league level will stop walking you. fuld's ceiling is about a 5th outfielder, but that's it. Yeah, well, the Cubs did trade 3 young pitchers for a similar player. And the Dodgers did pay this guy close to $10 mill per to be their 4th OFer.
