  1. Yeah.............there not going to get 5 players for Harden during the season. Maybe in the offseason, but during the season, 2 ML young players (say Gallagher/Pie) and 1 or 2 prospects (Veal, etc) should be more then enough to get Harden.
  2. None. Thanks, Mr. Sabean! Why would they trade him? They have a hell of a 1-2 with Lincecum and Cain, and can rebuild around those two. Why trade that away? Don't forget that have a hard-throwing lefty, who they love in Jonathan Sanchez also on that roster, who I think COULD be better then Cain. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/pitching?team=sfo Plus considering there top ten list, is either filled with players who are still atleast 3 yrs away (Angel Villalona, Nate Schierholtz), pitchers (Alderson, Bumgarner, Henry Sosa), or flat out borderline prospects (Eugenio Velez), they could use an influx of major league ready caliber players. I'm not saying they will give Cain away, but I think an offer starting with Gallagher and Pie could appeal to the Giants.
  3. First: I'm sorry to hear about your battle, SSB, beat that cancer into remission, my man. Second: Getting back on the original topic, SSB I appreciate your "audacity" to call up Hendry's office and whatnot, but like some have already said, Hendry is one of the hardest working GMs in baseball. And he would have to be living under a rock, to not know the Cubs need to make a counter move. For goodness sake, he was in a hospital bed, and still completed the Ted Lilly contract. So, Hendry is always working. But I am pretty sure, he loves hearing from the fans. But you should also know, that if he could make a trade for a Rich Harden today, he would, but that is not in his power. Third: I think Hendry now has a case of: http://youtube.com/watch?v=aD21JDMp86c
  4. There is another big name he mentioned that has been discussed here, but he asked me not to say what he told me. He's available and should come very cheap. I like that Harden is available, but it seems like a long shot since a third team would have to be involved. It would be typical for the Brewers to get C.C., the Cards to get Harden, and the Cubs settling for Joe Blanton. Edit: By the way, his mainpage has some stuff on the Cubs/Cards too, but it's mostly the same stuff that he said in the e-mail. I have no doubt that if Harden is the guy Hendry wants, he will make it happen. Besides this is one man's opinion, and not fact, so, who knows the truth.
  5. Wieters is OPS'ing 1.024 in A+ ball at age 22 Vitters is OPS'ing .923 in A- ball at age 18. I wouldn't throw in the towel on that move just yet. Which is why, I believe if the Cubs hold onto Vitters this yr, and he continues to rake, he could make for an ENTICING trade bait at next yr's deadline, ala LaPorta this yr.
  6. Their motivations? Payroll flexibility. Plain and simple. Toronto is not a team (at least in baseball) that can afford having 6 players making atleast $10 mill per (Halladay/Ryan/Burnett/Rolen/Rios/Wells), and a couple other players making atleast $7 mill or more (Overbay, Hill with club options). Toronto isn't Oakland or Tampa in terms of payroll, but they can't sustain a $90 million dollar team salary (it's closer to $100 mill), if the team isn't going to win. There looking to cut payroll, by trading guys like Burnett/Ryan and reinvesting into guys like Halladay, McGowan/Litsch, etc, etc. Now there not going to want crappy minor leaguers for Burnett, but they won't ask for the package Cleveland got for CC. Not to mention, Toronto is also looking to move Eckstein, and don't have a suitable replacement in their system (other then John McDonald) to play SS. Enter Ronny Cedeno. Cedeno has shown he can be a major league caliber SS, and thus he has good trade value. Now the question is...is Riccardi desparate enough to get Burnett's contract off the books, that he is willing to only accept Cedeno and a decent arm like Veal, or is he going to push his luck, and ask for Gallagher/Marshall? Personally, I think a deal of Cedeno/Veal and a PTBNL is more then enough to get Burnett.
  7. What people are forgetting, is that the Cubs went through their hardest part of their schedule, mentall and physically. A 35 day, 32 game stretch, that took the Cubs through two WC trips, a trip to Toronto, to Cooperstown, to TB. A stretch that saw the Cubs have to travel from San Fransisco to St. Louis, without a day, and won that game in St. Louis. A stretch that saw the Cubs lose Soriano, Johnson, and Zambrano for a period time. As stretch that saw the Cubs go 17-15. And through it all, the picked up a game on the Cards, and have remained in first place. So sure, moment on the road is great, and I am pride that they are starting to play well on the road. And sure the Brewers are close to getting CC, but if the Brewers couldn't make up series ground, with the Cubs losing both Soriano and Zambrano, then I doubt getting CC will help them overtake the Cubs. In other words, this team might be the mentally strongest team we've had in Chicago since the Don Zimmer days. That's why I doubt the Cubs will drop out of first anytime soon, if at all.
  8. This is a good gamble for the Brrewers, but as the cliche goes, if the Cubs handle their business (especially against the Brewers),they won't have to worry about the Brewers or Sabathia. I am fully confident Hendry will net us a starter that will improve the rotation. Now if Hendry goes out and acquire another Steve Trachsel type starter, I might have to do my best Travis Bickle impersonation on my Cubs gear.
  9. I really like the MVLee more then the DPLee. So, it's good to see MVLee back.
  10. I would keep the prospects, and not trade for CC. Play out the yr (unless you know for sure you can go deep in the playoffs, which isn't guarantee) and look to trade Fielder in the offseason to help fill out the rotation. But seeing as Milwaukee is about to become stupid, it won't hurt me if they trade their best position prospect for a rental, only to watch said rental leave in the offseason. Then watch your best position player leave via FA in a couple of yrs.
  11. If true, Hendry needs to get Burnett or Harden. If indeed true, than the Cubs "lukewarm interests" in AJ Burnett, is no longer lukewarm. I hate being a fan of a team that is reactive, instead of proactive, but if the Cubs could land Burnett or Harden, then I won't mind.
  12. Let's look at Ted Lilly. 3 of his last 4 yrs in the AL his ERA+ were 102, 119, 106 (80 being the lowest in that 4 yrs period). Lilly was able to rebound from a very crappy 2005, to be able to become a very solid #3 option. With the minimum of 20 starts/appearances in a seasons, Burnett has put up ERA+ OF 104, 122, 112, AND 115 in the NL. So, yes getting CC would make the rotation even stronger, but what the Cubs need is a legit #2 (or an ace), to push Lilly to 3, and Dempster to 4. And Burnett would do that. The difference between the Brewers and the Cubs, is that the Brewers need an impact player, whereas the Cubs are focusing on making themselves deeper. I know the Cubs are said to be lukewarm at acquiring Burnett, but wait til the Brewers acquire CC, and I guarantee Hendry and co, will begin to kick the tires on AJ.
  13. I may be wrong, but it really sounds like Bruce is sugarcoating things. We have the talent, but we don't match up? Yeah, in other words, we don't have jack. We've got a really good farm system. Its just not as good as all the other ones. Yeah, if by "really good" you mean terrible and one of the worst in baseball. I wouldn't call the Cubs system "one of the worst in baseball." That's being overdramatic. The Cubs got some good talent, but they are still in the early stages of development. I don't think it's being overdramatic at all. Last year Baseball America ranked the Cubs 20th and it's likely gotten worse since. I think it's overstated, moreso then overdramatic (sorry for the the word). I think most of the Cubs talented, are underdeveloped, and can't really be properly scouted, until they've been in the minors for a couple of yrs.
  14. Nobody is counting out the Red Sox just yet, same with the Yanks. But the feeling is, TB maybe just playing too well to be caught. Not saying it won't happen, but it will be tough for the Red Sox to catch the Rays unless 1 of 2 things happen: 1. They get a Ortiz healthy and hitting again. or 2: They get a impact hitter at the deadline.
  15. I may be wrong, but it really sounds like Bruce is sugarcoating things. We have the talent, but we don't match up? Yeah, in other words, we don't have jack. We've got a really good farm system. 16. I really think that team is winning the East. The Red Sox have a lot of question marks. It will be interesting to see how the Rays handle the deadline. Also, are they still planning on calling up Price at somepoint this season? Man, that rotation is going to be completely dominant pretty soon. In theory, the Rays don't necessarily need to make a move at the deadline. But I could see them pickng up complimentary players like Nady and perhaps a good bullpen arm like Fuentes for the stretch run. And I agree on Boston, they have moe questions, and are less talented then the Rays. I'd be shocked if the Rays don't win this divison by atleast 5 games.
  17. Let's simplify this: Jacques Jones, Jeromy Burnitz, or Kosuke Fukudome in RF? He's fine. I expect improvement as the season continues, and FBomb adjust to the new pitchers.
  18. This was a crappy lose, but every team has those over the course of the season. And I am fully confident that Marshall's Law will be implimented in St. Louis tomorrow. I fully expect Marshall to putpitched Welly by a great distance. Here's why we will tomorrow, and carry that momentum into next week: So far in this series, the Cards have managed only 11 hits and 2 ERs in 12 IPs against Z/Lilly. In this series the Cards have managed 2 hits and 1 run against the Cubs bullpen, not including KW implosion today. The Cubs have outplayed the Cards this series, but due to a break the Cards got in 9th today, they managed to split the series so far. The Cubs have not lead/tied for all of one innings, and that was the ninth. The Cubs have been the better team this series, an unfortunate break happen. We got our break int he first game, with those two questionable strike calls against Glaus, and in turn karma gave the Cards a break today. So, I get the negativity after today's game, but this isn't going to send the Cubs into a spiral, or skid, or whatnot. It's a bad loss nothing more/nothing less. I expect a nice and easy win tomorrow, something like 8-1.
  19. Lets hope the Dodgers can step up their offer here. While Id rather CC stay in the AL, Id much rather him go to the Dodgers. Also, the Dodgers might be inclined to outbid the Brewers if it comes down to it, as they are more likely to be able to offer him an extension. If they're truely serious, they migh need to add Kemp, Ethier, or Loney to the deal. What if we were to try to get in the action with a 3 team deal and get Brad Penny or Derrek Lowe from the Dodgers, just for the sake of blocking the Brewers? Long term we might be better off if the Brewers get Sabathia. why? short term it makes me nervous... i think the brewers are a little bit crazy to do this...and if they do they have to go after another bullpen arm... if they get C.C., they won't be resigning him and they won't resign sheets...so they are obviously in win this year mode I agree. Possibly getting Sabathia doesn't guarantee a playoff appearance. I mean, the Brewers could trade 2-3 good to great prospects to get a half season of Sabathia, not make the playoffs, and lose him in FA with Sheets. I know some will say, they could get 5 out of the top 40 picks, but losing both pitchers, would set the Brewers back a couple of yrs, if they don't find suitable replacements. So, it's a HUGE gamble for the Brewers.
  20. Same here, in Minneapolis. Here in Alabama, also. Apparently FOX thinks every baseball fan in America wants to watch the overrated soap-opera drama that is the Yanks-Red Sox, and not a legit, hard-fought rivalry like the Cubs/Cards.
  21. And if the Brewers end up losing both Sheets, and potentially CC, then they take a step backwards in development. Not only do they lose a couple of top of the line pitchers, but TOP prospects, and now they would either have to sign a pitcher, or use the picks on pitchers. Which means they would have a rotation that has a rehabbing Yovani/Suppan/Marra/Bush, etc. Not a rotation that can win a wild card, much less a rotation. So, if I am Milwaukee I better be dang sure, I could re-sign CC, if I was going to give up LaPorta plus, for a not-so-guarantee playoff push. And considering who could be available (to me the best available after Sheets and CC---no contractual options--- would be Pedro/Pettite//Garland/Dempster/Lowe and Oliver Perez) this would be a HUGE gamble on Milwaukee's part. In other words, Milwaukee would have to be guarantee two things: 1: A playoff spot. 2: A re-signed CC Sabathia. And seeing as neither is guarantee right now, it would be a huge gamble.
  22. I'm not expecting anything from Rich for the rest of the yr. Anything the Cubs get from him, will be gravy. But it's good to hear some decent news about Rich, for once.
  23. It would be a sad end to his career. But knowing Joe, he would not want anybody to feel bad about how his career ends, if this is indeed the end.
  24. According to his wikipedia bio, he retired after the 06 season.
  25. All Edmonds was saying was that he was a Cub, and no longer a Card. There was no hidden message, don't jab at the Cards. Edmonds has gotten tired about the media keep talking about his Cards days. TLR is a paranoid freak, and I am glad he will never manage the Cubs.
