  1. Let me get this straight: Evan Longoria hits a double on a ball he had no reason to be swinging out, and yet Ludwich swings through a hittable pitch, that lead to a strike 'em out/throw 'em out DP. Awesome. This is why the AL has not lost in a decade, NL. They have a clue as to how to win a game, and you don't.
  2. Maybe he wants to win. Too late now. Contrary to popular belief, the Bears are not as bad as some think. The Bears still have their Super Bowl caliber defense intact. If the Offense is even remotely average, the Bears should and could challenge for best in the NFC. Yeah, I said it.....
  3. Chris Simms would be nice. But neither he nor Jones will see enough time on the field to make a huge difference. Simms I agree with, but Jones could realisticially see plenty of time, especially if Forte struggles.
  4. Then prepared to be shocked. Because I don't see Hendry wanted 3 pitchers making atleast $10 million, with a chance---if healthy---a fourth joining the $10 mill per club. I don't see him doing that, considering you have Gaudin/Marshall/Hill/Shark/ and perhaps Veal could replace him in the rotation. Now, if Hendry is successful at moving Jason Marquis before the deadline, and Lilly after the season, I could see Hendry re-signing Dempster, but other then that scenerio, I don't see Dempster back unless it is for a discount Personally, I think the Cubs should move both Marquis and Lilly (Hill and Marshall can give the Cubs what Lilly does, for less money) and re-sign Dempster.
  5. With the acquisition of Gaudin (Harden has no bearing on what the Cubs will do with Dempster), I think it's more likely that the Cubs are prepared to let Dempster walk after the yr, and grab a couple of draft picks. If the Cubs trade Marquis and do indeed let Dempster walk (I love Dempster, but I rather acquire draft picks to continue to stockpile the system), then the Cubs could feesible go into next season with Hill/Marshall/Gaudin/Veal/Shark fighting out for the 4 and 5 spots in the rotation. IMO, Gaudin makes it likely that Dempster won't be back in 2009.
  6. Samardzija has a FULL NTC, and I doubt he'll waive it for Pittsburgh. Veal seems to be fair value for Marte, but I would have to be talked into the deal.
  7. If the Bulls match, they automatically get him back? Any word on the length of the contract? I know I'm in the minority, but I hope the Bulls don't match that. I agreed to a degree. But if we don't match, then the Bulls will have to reupped Ben Gordon. And I know I am not the only one who wants that guy gone from Chicago. I wonder if the Clippers would do a SNT that involves Al Thornton coming back to the Bulls, along with other pieces, for Deng?
  8. And then the follow up is why were we doing a favor to the Reds organization? One little phrase to remember, "You scratch my back, and I will scratch your's." It's make dealing with a divisional rival go smoother, if you work out deals like this. Let's be thankful, that Josh Hamilton is not with the Red anymore, and smile.
  9. Can't stand Dontrelle Willis, cause I feel like I am going to pull MY HAMSTRING, just watching him perform that high leg kick. As for my favorite, it has to be Lincecum. He's delivery says to me, "hey batter, here's my rear end.........now kiss it, as I am about to jam a 98 mph FB past you."
  10. 100 years without a World Series victory and you guys are really comfortable with Rich "Headcase" Hill on the mound in September as we attempt to ward off the Brewers?? I don't think my stomach could survive such a trauma. I feel more comfortable with Sean Marshall myself . . . If his head is on straight, and pitches to his ability, I would gladly have him on the mound in the playoffs. A rotation of Z/Harden/Dempster/Lilly and a back on track Rich Hill, would make the Cubs and OVERWHELMING favorites to come out of the NL. But of course, it all depends on if Hill can get back on track.
  11. Can the Chicago Cubs defeat the AL? Tune in tomorrow night to see if they can? Oh yeah, there are a few non-Cub players worth checking out.
  12. Am I the only one who thinks thats a terrible comparison? No you're not. And no I wouldn't make that trade.
  13. In the grand schemes of things it doesn't, but it is fun to speculate who the "bitter" GM is who made the comments. To which, I originally thought it would be the Cards GMs, but thinking about it, that comment does reek of Kenny Williams.
  14. I agree. Those GM's who thought the Harden trade was reactionary, are buffoons. The ONLY way the A's would have traded Harden on the spur of the moment, is if acquriing team gave Beane the keys to the system to pick whoever he wanted in the deal. You definately get the feeling that this trade was not "a spur of the moment" type trade as those bitter, jaded GMs think it was. I'm guessing there was just one bitter GM. Maybe someone who refuses to believe that any clubs are talking about anything without him knowing about it. Or, maybe it was the Brewers, who didn't appreciate being one-upped so quickly after their big moment. If it is just one GM who's being bitter, then my money is on the Cards GM. The rumor was Oakland wanted Anderson and Rasmus for Harden, and quite frankly the Cubs did not give up a prospect to either Cards prospect talent. So, my guess is, the Cards GM is one who made that soundbite.
  15. I know Sut is from Independence, Missouri. So it's possible.
  16. Something tells me that record will change quickly in the 2nd half. IDK what I would do if I ever saw the Cubs up near 30 games over .500. Pee in your pants? Stop drinking, because I wouldn't believe it, is more like it.
  17. The story I read was that the perimeters of the deal was basically agreed on a few weeks ago sans Sean Gallagher. Beane wanted him, Hendry refused to part with him. Then the CC trade happen, and that trigger Hendry into including Gallagher in the deal. So yes, the CC deal did play a part in the Cubs getting Harden, but not to the point these jaded GMs want you to believe.

  19. The top three things that I want done in the second half, and they are equally important are: 1A: Get Marmol back on track. 1B: Make sure Harden is healthy and makes his starts. 1C: Get Soriano healthy and raking again. Other things that the Cubs would get accomplished are gravy, if those first three are met. Some honorable mentions: *Move Fukudome back to 5th. The theory with his high OBP/low SLG would be better served higher up, has been disproved. Move Fukudome back to 5th. *Acquire BOTH a lefty set up man, and RIGHTY POP off the bench. If these things are met, I don't see why the Cubs can't win 100 games.

  21. The couldn't touch either Cain or Lincecum, and had to go extras to win the middle game. If not for a masterful performance by Marquis in the first game, the Cubs could have easily lost 2 of 3. I take the series win with a smile, and head into the break with a good division lead.
