  1. First: I don't mind how the MLB is set up. The two leagues are supposed to be different. Different teams, different rules, etc, etc. Battles between the leagues are supposed---to me atleast---to be a clash of styles. Kind of like the high flying/high scoring AFL .v. the ground it out, punish your opponent in the NFL. I don't have a problem with the two leagues having distinct differences. Second: How dare pitchers have to run. Never mind part of being a pitcher is having stamina. How do you gt stamina, by running. The NL didn't hurt Wang, the lack of fundamental baseball hurt Wang. Steinbrenner needs to stop whining, and leave the baseball talk, to those who know a thing or two about the sport. Third: At this point, I kind of wish Hal Steinbrenner got control of the team. Atleast he would be level headed, and not come off as a spoil brat, like his brother.
  2. And Steinbrenner doesn't have any brains, considering he said that is was the "NL fault" that Wang got injured while RUNNING the bases. So we know, Hank isn't playing with a full deck. In fact, I could see Hank preventing the Yanks from winning another WS for a LOOOOOONG time.
  3. I know I didn't say the Yankees go out and get everyone they wanted. So, whoever you are talking about, I know it's not me. All I know is this.....Steinbrenner wanted Santana, and my understanding is that Cashman wasn't sure trading Kennedy and/or Hughes was beneficial for the org. Maybe Cashman is right, but let me ask you this; A 2 time Cy Young award winner, or two pitchers who may or may not ever reach their potential? The simple truth is this, just because the Yankees have no got who they wanted recently, doesn't mean they haven't tried to get those players. So, I still see Steinbrenner overstepping his boundaries, and making a play for CC. Now will Cleveland move CC? Now that's the question. But I am pretty sure the Yankees will be in on the CC hunt. The Yankees just lost their ace for the season, they will go after Sabathia. And if I was Shapiro, I would ask for two of Kennedy/Tabata/Hughes, plus another solid prospect.
  4. If the Cubs are planning on trading both Murton and Hill to the Red Sox can we get somebody back that is actually useful? I'm hoping for either Masterson or Hansen along with Crisp, or that deal does NOT make sense for the Cubs.
  5. Agreed. I believe the Cubs will leave TB with 2 wins.
  6. You would think with the team is up 20 games over .500, they should get the benefit of the doubt. But apparently not. I know this might sound abit defiant, but the Cubs can come back and win this game. And I expect them to. Now that doesn't mean they will, but this team won't go down without a fight.
  7. When you consider that Brian Sabean, and Ned Colletti still has jobs, then the chances of one of them stepping up and wanting Soriano, remains a decent option. Everybody knows that LA would trade Penny for an impact bat. And seeing as Colletti definition of impact is not the same as a normal person, it is possible he would make a run at Soriano.
  8. Gonna be awfully crowded up the middle of the infield. And people are going to talk about Theriot's range at SS, now he has to cover both SS and 3rd base. Now his range factor will take a hit.
  9. Am I the only one who believes, that if the Cubs do persue Beltran, that in the offseason the Cubs would then spend Soriano off on another team, looking for offense? I could see Cubs acquire Beltran this deadline, and the offseason send Soriano to the Dodgers for.....whatever. With that said, I don't expect the Cubs to actual target and acquire Beltran. This blog seems to be more wishful thinking then anything. And who says Burnett would only be a two-month rental? I know he can opt out, but I could see the Cubs and Burnett agreeing to an extension that would keep Bunrett a Cubs for the immediate future.
  10. Agreed. While Soto has slumped, here are AJ and Soto's numbers for 2008, and it's not even close: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting?sort=avg&split=0&league=mlb&season=2008&seasonType=2&type=reg&ageMin=17&ageMax=51&minpa=0&hand=a&pos=c&startDate=null&endDate=null Soto has him beat by 30 points in OBP, 90 points in slg, and 120 points in OPS. The ONLY thinkg AJ has over Soto is batting average. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/fielding?groupId=9&season=2008&seasonType=2&split=78&sortOrder=true&sortColumn=fieldingPct Not to mention his defensive skills, and Deluca picking AJ over Soto, because Soto has slump in June is a mindnumbing stupid reason. Soto is the better catcher in Chicago, and he goes with AJ. W/E.
  11. If you ask me who are the two players you want up in a clutch situation, with the game on the line, who would you pick? I would say: A: Fukudome B: ARam. I do think Fuku season is slightly done, only because he is still trying to learn the pitches. Didn't Fuku make a comment awhile back, that he was going to show people something new, late in the season, that they didn't expect? I believe his power is down, only because he is trying to learn the American pitchers, and how they throw, etc, etc. I think Fuku could have shown more power, but I believe his OBP would have taken a hit. I think once he gets comfortable with the American pitchers, I believe his power numbers will go up, especially at Wrigley.
  12. I know I didn't say the Yankees go out and get everyone they wanted. So, whoever you are talking about, I know it's not me. 13. http://cubsrumorsandnews.blogspot.com/ For the most standard rumors, but this caught my eye: Personally, I don't want Carlos. Too much money, blah, blah, even tho he would help the offense out tremendously. His contract is the biggest problem for me. Plus I would rather trade the assets that the Cubs do have, for another pitcher or two. I didn't see this rumor anywhere, but if it is somewhere, please delete or merge.
  14. I don't buy that. Hank Steinbrenner isn't going to sit by and watch CC Sabathia go to another team. Not after watching the Mets grab Johan Santana. If George, Jr wants (I know his name is Hank, by you might as well call him George, Jr) to go after CC, then Cashman is nothing more then a figurehead. I see the Yankees making a play for CC.
  15. I would too, considering the Cubs have two lefties at AAA, who would be better. If we are going to trade for a starter, it has to upgrade the rotation, and Wolf does not do that.
  16. The Cards are overachieving to stay up with the Cubs. So I wouldn't nec...call them a good team. I do believe their lack of depth will eventually catch up with them, cause the Cubs show no signs of slowing down. The Cubs are in front of the Cards, and IMO, I doubt the Cards see 1st place again this yr. I'm not trying to get ahead of myself, but I don't see the Cards passing the Cubs again this yr. IMO, the only time the Cubs (and us fans) should worry about the Cards, is when the Cubs and the Cards play. Otherwise, it's not worth worrying over a team, not as good as the Cubs,
  17. Cubs win!!!!!!!!!! 2 of 3 in Toronto, not bad.
  18. The article then goes on to speculate about who is available and focuses on Sabathia. I think it's becoming clear from all the rumors that we will be in the running for someone. Who and at what cost seem to be the only question. vance, I don't thinnk "at what cost" is going to play a part. Everything Hendry has done in the last 2 or so yrs, has been geared up to for a World Series run, which means, I expect Hendry is going into the deadline with a "blank check", so to speak, in terms of what he's willing to spend. The main question will be, who are the Cubs targetting.
  19. sweet, although he's sucking this year and has a career high 12 wins. I would rather go after Harden since they both have severe injury problems but Harden is a much better pitcher when healthy. It don't matter to me, seeing as both are risky gamble, with huge potentials. But seeing as Harden is younger, Beane is prolly going to ask for more then Tor is going to ask for AJ. I am willing to gamble on AJ working with Soto and Rotschild, and returning to the NL will help AJ. I don' tthink you can go wrong with either pitcher, but and you might be right about Harden being a better pitcher when healthy, but he'll cost more then AJ. Let me ask you this: Would you rather have AJ Burnett now (hypothethically speaking), or wait for Harden, who may or may not be available?
  20. While, it doesn't look good for the Twins right now, i still expect Carlos Gomez to be a really good player for the Twins. He's very much like Felix Pie, int hat they both are incredibly raw. I still think the Garza for Young deal was a bigger mistake then the Johan deal, to be honest.
  21. I wish the Cubs had more prospects who come into the majors guns a-blazing, ala Albert Pujols, and Miguel Cabrera. But the simple fact is to call a prospect a flop due to a small sample size is crazy. For some players, it'll take longer to developed. No with Pie, he has great defensive capabilities to play in the majors right now, so at worst, he would be a half-flop, seeing as his defense is there. It's his offense, that needs help. If the Cubs would be patient with him (maybe they will, if they get this monkey off their back, if you know what I mean) he will become a very good player.
  22. I agree. Well lets go get 'em tommorow with Marquis. I hope we get the Sunday Night Marquis not the other one.. :? Logic says the Cubs should lose tomorrow, but the funny feeling in the pitch of my stomach, says Jason Marquis will outpitch Halladay.
  23. I wish the Blue Jays would start the Rockies LFer tomorrow, instead of Roy Halladay.
  24. IDK why, and I know all logic points to tomorrow being a loss with Marquis going, but something tells me, Marquis is going to get the win tomorrow against Halladay. I can't explain it, but tomorrow, even with Marquis on the mound, I believe the Cubs are going to win. It could be the fact that the Cubs have roughed up some of the game's best picthers (Oswalt/Peavy/Haren). I can't explain, but the Cubs will somehow beat Halladay tomorrow.
  25. I have a sickening feeling he and Edmonds will soon be reunited. Scott Eyre is argubly throwing his best ball of his career. And Cotts IMO, should be a decent complimentary lefty. So there is NO NEED to add a third X-Card to the Cubs.
