    I disagree about Reyes. I didn't see anything that warrants him having good upside. Not to mention when was the last time the Braves developed a homegrown pitching talent (they acquire via UNFA, draft, anything but tradeS) and kept them? Millwood? Glavine? Chuck James? Andrew Lerew? I think teams are still leary about question Braves pitchng prospects. Because of Schmidt--pre injury, Wainwright, and Millwood, no other great prospect from the Braves gone off to stardom. So, teams aren't quick to acquire LH prospects from the Braves, thus IMO, Reyes doesn't have much value in trade talks. That why Marshall has more value, because he's soon he can pitch at the major league level. IMO, Reyes is a non-factor in talks. IMO, Reyes would be a throw-in in this deal, and not main piece.

    I agree. Personally I think Towers/Hendry has the perimeters of a deal in place, but there is a certain player/pitcher that Towers wants Hendry to include (whoever that might be, different teams hold different value on certain prospects) in the deal, and Hendry ask Towers to give him the weekend to think about. IDK if that is true or not, that's a theory.

    Did anybody see Gameday this morning? Man what a disturbing story about LSU fans (sorry Vance), that their burning Saban eventually turn into a burning cross and nobdoy at LSU did anything to stop it in the week since it happen. /imb.

    Prolly, but Peavy wouldn't accept that deal because Escobar is in it. At this point any offer the Braves make prolly don't have Escobar in it, which means the Cubs match any Braves offer or better, unless the Braves put either Heyward (who IMO, is a better prospect then Schafer) or Hanson. Reyes, IMO is like Horatio Ramirez/Bruce Chen/random left handed pitching prospect. I don't see any upside to him. He's like Sean Marshall without the upside. Morton is intriguing prospect, but not one that trumps anything the Cubs have. And Schafer, it depends on which CF prospect they like better; Schafer or Pie. Schafer is more likely to live up to potential, but Pie has the higher upside. Again, it would depend on which prospects they like better. It's hard to gauge where the trade talks are right now, or which prospects the Padres really like, and not the ones that have been leaked. But if we are to believe that Peavy does not want Escobar traded, then that significantly hurts the Braves chances at landing Peavy, unless they put Hanson or Heyward into the deal. No Escobar/Hanson and/or Heyward, and the Cubs can trump anything the Braves can offer.

    Apparently, according to Rosenthal the Cards have offered Ludwick, Schumaker and Mitchell Boggs to the Rockies for Matt Holliday. Seriously man, if the Rockies take this offer, I was be so pissed that I will break things. I mean my god, you have essentially two backup players (and yes until proven otherwise, Ludwick--IMO---is a 4th OF with a career yr) and a swing pitcher for one of the better hitters in baseball. Gosh, I hope this isn't true.

If the Braves include one of those that will get Peavy. Seeing as the Braves haven't been incline to include one another I like our chances.

    If this is what they want from the Indians, God knows what theyd want from us. If the O's are really that bonkers, I think we can forget about Roberts. Saw that too. They are crazy. McPhailing. Big time. Unless this is Angelos flexing his love Sad thing for the O's will be when Roberts leaves Baltimore as a free agent, and the O's only get a late 1st rd and a compensation pick for him.

    Scott Miller of CBSSPORTSLINE think the Braves are the front runners because the Braves are willing to include Gorkys Hernandez? Are you kidding me? There are two players the Braves have that could make them the front runners for Peavy and neither is Hernandez, and the Braves haven't offered either. Otherwise, if the Braves don't offer Heyward or Hanson, then the Cubs can equal or surpass the Braves offer. To me if the Braves want Peavy they will have to give up either Heyward or Hanson and the Braves are not exactly rushing either prospect to the table. This may have been mention, but I wanted to put my two sense on the aboslute ridiculousness of saying the Braves are the front runners because of Gorkys Hernandez.

    GM Meetings ended Thursday....FYI With Hanson's peformance in the AFL the Braves may just say "F--it" and say let's just keep the young players and build for tomorrow. It's obivously the Padres want Hanson, but the Braves don't want to part with him. With that said, it wouldn't surprise me if the Braves GM surprise the world and trade Hanson to get Peavy.

If the organization truly likes what the Cubs are offering (especially if Shark is included) I don't see why this have to drag on through the weekend. So who knows.....

    If Shark is the final piece to the deal, the Cubs need to pull the trigger. There is no reason why Shark should be holding up the trade. I'm sure Shark would be properly motivated (ie $$$ or a guarantee spot in the rotation) to waive his NTC.

    Padres don't get enough, and the Marlins want Maybin to be their CF. If Pie is moved anywhere else besides CF, his value goes down a crapload. I coulkd see it: Cubs get: Peavy, Hermida Padres get: Marshall, Olson, Pie, Cedeno, Ceda Marlins get:Castillo, Atkins/Veal, a few of the afore mentioned Cubs low level prospects. Marlins get the shortend here by a good chunk, imo. I agree. In Rooters proposal, I think Marshall/Olsen/Pie and Cedeno is more then enough to get Peavy. Two major league quality pitchers, a 2 and a 3 potentially, a starting SS, and a starting CF, all of which are major league ready for Peavy is more then enough, IMO. Ceda would have to go to the Marlins, along with a better pitching prospect then Atkins/Vea. I could see the Marlins asking for a kid you Huseby as part of the deal.A kid from Florida, raw, someone they wouldn't need for a few yrs. Huseby could be someon the Marlins could target.l

    This is the statement I find almost laughable. They say the Cubs don't have "enough top prospects" and yet every report I've seen the Braves are not offering up any of their's so quickly. If they did they could have had Peavy yesterday. So why haven't they? So maybe the scout is speaking out of his butt.

    I would definately sign off on that. Still leaves the Cubs the opportunity to still target a guy like Furcal and/or Ibanez or Luke Scott.

    Dave Kaplan is the dumbest mammal alive. That maybe SSR, but he is right in this case. I love Dempster and what he brings to the team on and off the field, but if the Cubs get Peavy, Dempster would no longer be needed.

    This has Hendry written on all it. The Braves certaintly have the prospects to make a team to trade trade without involving a third team or 4th team.

    Yeah, you put up a career 154 ERA+ over 2700 innings and you are pretty much the best pitcher of all time. I have to concur. I run down some of the greats ERA+; guys like Walter and Randy Johnson, Cy Young, Bob Feller, Bob Gibson, so and so, and none of them have ERA+ higher then Pedro. So Pedro can be argued that he is the best pitcher in MLB history. I think that was sarcasm. Lefty Grove put up a 148 ERA+ in 3900 innings which is essentially the same thing. Walter Johnson pitched 5900 career innings, over TWICE as many, and put up a 147 ERA+. 8 points of ERA plus in absolutely no way makes up the innings difference of 3200 innings. Essentially doesn't mean he is, just means he has a case. Nonetheless I would put Grove in the conversation as best in history of the game.

    Considering some of the names that have been branded about from the Braves side (Locke/Reyes/Morton, essentially any young pitcher but Tommy Hanson) are not much, if at all, better then what the Cubs are said to be offering, I say the Padres legitimately interested in some Cubs prospects. If Hendry didn't think otherwise, he would have pulled out already and focused on other targets.

    After previously viewing this as the longest of long shots, I now realize that Hendry is masterfully doing just enough to get my hopes up to make me resentful and view the rest of the offseason in contempt when it doesn't happen. Yep. Which is why I refuse to get excited about this. Yep.
