  1. I don't know, some of those triple option and wing-T quarterbacks were pretty awesome. That's what I mean. John Parker Wilson isn't a good quarterback because he all of a sudden holds the career passing marks at Alabama. The game is just so much different with regards to the passing game. For example, Brady Quinn was the first QB to throw for 3,000 yards at ND and they've had a ton of great signal callers. JP Wilson is a better QB then you are giving him credit for. I'm not saying he's a great QB by any means, but he is solid college QB who you can win with provided you don't ask him to do more then he's capable of (think of him as a college version of Trent Dilfer). You still have to have some talent---regardless of the system used---to set some records at a school as rich as Alabama. To diminished that because of the "evolution" of a game is ridiculous. Does this mean we can diminish what Tim Tebow did last yr or what Colt McCoy have done? You can't have it both ways.
  2. As much as it pains me to say it, but yeah, LSU prolly is barely a Top 25 team much less a Top 15 team.
  3. This game was an exception not the rule. Even in the SEC, we can play "Big XII" quality offense. And this game goes to show if the SEC wants to be offensive, they can get offensive. The defensive sucked in this game (and two weeks ago for LSU against Florida), but defense in the Big XII have sucked ALL year.
  4. No cause that requires the Big XII to actually play defense. And we all know that atleast this yr the Big XII is allergic to playing defense. Which in a way I couldn't vote for McCoy as Heisman because we don't how good he is until he faces a defense that punches him in the mouth. I am joking here, but I say just give the Heisman Trophy to Darren McFadden, the NCAA owes him one.
  5. Seconded.... All in favour?
  6. Bob Kelso, is that you?
  7. And KSU up to 42-49 points. Forget defense in this game, OU, just outslug 'em.
  8. The Big 12 is like the ABA was. it's such a joke this year. this ou team is really like a switzer team, except we throw the ball and no one sells crack. LOL another k state turnover. if we score 60 in the first half i'm going to laugh my ass off. Which is why I can't really get on board with your team this year. we'll make a second half adjustment. Understatement.
  9. UW doesn't even have to "destroy' ND for it to be a feel good story. I would love nothing else to see Ty stick it to ND. Unfortunately, Ty is coaching the other team, so he can't stick it to ND in any way besides perhaps to float more ridiculous racism accusations. But maybe he can go interview for another job while still employed at UW, like he did when he zipped off during the bye week before his last game as the ND coach and interviewed at UW. You know, instead of recruiting. Yeah well, that's good and all but if Ty knew he was going to get fired from ND why should he help them with recruiting? I mean they fired Ty after three seasons, and according to this logic Weiss should be fired after this yr, or perhaps even last yr. So I don't blame Ty for interviewing for another job instead of recruiting for your now ex-school. ND take the majority blame in the Ty Willingham situation because Ty is a good coach and he would have gotten them to where they want to be, but they refused to be patient. I'm not saying Ty is innocent, but ND was clearly looking for the hot new name of coaches and they dumped Ty at their first sign of adversity. And that ain't right, IMO.

  11. At least we hope. I would love to get #700 against the Packers.
  12. The Braves have a history of making trades to set them up for future years, though. They were technically in the race in 07, but were in 3rd place in the NL East with the 8th best record in the league when they traded for Teixeira. They traded for Wickman and Baez when they were 14 games out in '06. And I don't know that I would agree that Peavy doesn't help them now. Peavy gives them a #1 to compete w/ Santana and Hamels. Jurrjens as a #2 may be the best 2 in that division. Offense is probably an OF (or a Francoeur resurgence) away from being strong enough to seriously contend. I could see them making a run at one of the FA OFs (Bradley, Burrell, Ibanez). I wasn't a fan of the Tex move, because everybody saw it on the wall as a desparate attempt to draw people back to Braves with the false hope that they were a playoff caliber team. If failed. And ultimately they bought high on Tex (Salty/Andrus etc) then they sold low on him (Kotchman and prospect). Not a good business move, IMO. Granted they wouldn't have to move Peavy immediately after acquiring him, but you have to believe that the Braves only trade for Peavy if they are fully committed to winning next yr, and Idk if they will be.
  13. I know Bruce Bowen loves shooting the corner shot, but IDK about Christie. Yeah, Doug Christie loved him some corner Js. He's a pretty good comparison to Thabo. I don't think Thabo could necessarily put up much more than 11 ppg, but with good defense, he won't need to. IDK, playing with a playmaking PG like Rose could give Thabo more the enough opportunities to be a 13-15 ppg kind of player. Not saying he would, but playing with Rose you can't write it off.
  14. Don't know if they is a known fact, BUT.....sometime later this yr the Bears will become the first NFL team to record 700 wins in NFL history. (Regular and postseason wins combine. The Bears currently have 697 wins in franchise history).
  15. I know Bruce Bowen loves shooting the corner shot, but IDK about Christie.
  16. I could see that, but I see him averaging more points per game then Christie did in his career (11 ppg). Other then that yeah Thabo should fit into that Bowen/Christie/Posey type player, but only if VDN gives his plenty of run while Hughes is out.
  17. Braves and Cards droppped out on their own, the Astros were eliminated because they don't have anything remotely close to the kind of package to get Peavy. Which leads me to my original thought from a few days ago and that is don't see Peavy traded this offseason.
  18. No he most certaintly is not. If VDN gives Thabo plenty of burn on the court, Thabo can be the next Bruce Bowen/James Posey type player with better offensive talent. This kid got some good talent, so he most certaintly is not garbage.
  19. If Auburn plays like this they MIGHT keep the game competitive. Alabama will beat Auburn comfortably. Two words: Josh Chapman. Learn his name, respect his game. He is Bama's most talented interior player and strongest player. Bench presses 485/squats 600lbs. this kid demans the same respect that Cody demands. Alabama won't miss Cody as much as people think. edit: tune back into the AU/WVU game and I notice AU has given 24 unanswer points to WVU. So if Auburn plays like this against Bama, they'll lose by 4 touchdowns.
  20. If Auburn plays like this they MIGHT keep the game competitive. Alabama will beat Auburn comfortably.
  21. Yep, that is Auburn Football in a nutshell.
  22. This is deflating to hear. I really hope it's a case of severe wishful thinking. Of course this would wind up being some kind of miracle recovery. Why wouldn't it be? I don't wish injury on any player, but Hughes being sidelined sure was convenient. If he can be out long enough for which Thabo can develop a nice consistancy (I know a big if) and earniong VDN trust, then when he does come back Hughes won't be taking anybody minutes. I will maintain that Thabo should be the starting 2 guard, and HInrich the backup PG, but it wouldn't surprise me if Rose/Hinrich or Gordon is the starting backcourt.
  23. Yes, I agree trading Harden for Roberts---when we already have two qualified 2nd basemen already on the roster---would be very stupid. So unless we can turn around turn DeRosa into Brandon Webb, making a Harden/Roberts trade is useless. Not to mention you can shell a few bucks and sign Orlando Hudson as a FA and it only cost you is a couple of draft picks.
  24. Question answered: http://gocubsgo.today.com/files/2008/10/1224507968425954.jpg Good lord, that's depressing. Yeah. It is very depressing. you think that's depressing, just wait until it's 2045 and they're tacking on an eighth digit. It would be depressing considering it would be 100 yrs since the last world series appearance, and one hundred and thirty-seven yrs since the last title. So if the Cubs don't have a world series appearance (or title) byt 2045, I seriously go to considering giving up baseball. So ok Cubs, you have 36 yrs to convince me you want to win, or I might root for the Portland Fire (when Florida or Tampa is relocated by 2020).
  25. I'd be ecstatic with just a Pie/Ceda for Hermida deal, but IF we could get them to throw in Gregg for Castillo and Cedeno, I might be interested. That said, you're probably right about the history closing overvaluing him and at that point, I'd lose interest. That's a lot to give up. I think that might be pushing it on Hermida, but I'd do the deal because Hermida would conceivably fit a need and be a Cub for 3-4 years. I don't know that Cedeno has much value anymore - and I'm not real optimistic about his ability to be any more than a decent bat off the bench. I'm a bit lower on him than others, and I guess that explains my willingness to trade him. I'm with you, dew. You can't beat out Ryan Theriot, then you don't have much value as anything more then a utility player.
