  1. As long as we frontload it. I'd prefer to pay him this way: Year 1: $50 million Year 2: $60 million Year 3: $1.25 million Year 4: $1.25 million Year 5: $1.25 million Year 6: $1.25 million Can you imagine the effort Manny would be giving by year 5 and 6 of that deal? Yeah, but he wouldn't be too hard to move at that price. The problem would be by yr 5 and 6 would be if he's still hitting like Manny Ramirez or Manny Castillo.
  2. Yeah I read that and the first thought I had was, "Yes, Phil the Cubs would trade Derrek Lee just to get Micah Hoffpauir into the lineup. NM Tex is available, no, no, Micah would be the 1st baseman if the Cubs dealt Lee." Rogers is a tool, and I get dumber reading his articles. Phil and Paul are different people And your point is..................... As mention in the post above, both are idiots. regardless, you claim to have been reading an article by Paul Sullivan and thought to yourself "yes, PHIL" and called Rogers a tool. the world's filled with idiots Excuse me, my bad I confused one idiot with another. Oh no, what should I do. And I did read the article, I just didn' tpay attention to who wrote it. Stop nitpicking. Move on, Bob. That's not nitpicking, it was the entire point of your post. Ok, I misread who wrote the damn article. I read the article, but did not read who wrote the column. Are you happy now?

  5. Had some real good players in that series. Manny Ramirez, Jim Thome, Hersheiser, Vizquel are all likely Hall of Famers. Borderline guys are: Sheffield (500 HR), Alou (2100 hits, 6x AS), Robb Nen (300 saves), Tony Fernandez (2200 hits as a SS), Jose Mesa (320 saves)...though none will get in. Then you have guys like Bobby Bonilla, Brian Giles, David Justice, Matt Williams, Kevin Brown who put together multiple elite seasons. Sandy Alomar Jr. was near the top at his position for a lot of his career too. You forget the young Edgar Renteria, the pre-David Eckstein in Craig Counsell, Al Leither, Alex Fernandez, Luis Castillo. Yeah, I agree that was an outstanding World Series, even tho I thought the Braves got severely screwed by Eric Gregg (RIP) in the NLCS that yr. If people don't tune in to watch the Rays/Phillies World Series, then those people are not baseball fans. I may not watch every game, but I will watch atleast half the games in the series. This is going to be a hell of a series.
  6. I can never root for a team from arguably the biggest douche bag town in America. I cannot root for Philly even tho I like Chase Utley. I really hope Lidge becomes Mitch Williams part 2, without the bomb and death threats.
  7. He may look like a tool, act like a douche, and frightens kids at a higher rate then any slasher film, but I would love to have him hitting at Wrigley 81 games a yr plus the playoffs.
  9. I'd be ecstatic with just a Pie/Ceda for Hermida deal, but IF we could get them to throw in Gregg for Castillo and Cedeno, I might be interested. That said, you're probably right about the history closing overvaluing him and at that point, I'd lose interest. I wouldn't trade Castillo straight up for Gregg. Even tho I think Gregg has a decent enough arm for middle relief (he seemed to pitch better at home .v. on the road in his career..... 3.78 at home/4.22 on the road) I agree that Castillo is too much to give up for a middle reliever. Atkins plus C+ prospect would be about right for Gregg. Even then you might be overpayng slightly.
  10. Prolly because they heard Buster Olney throw Milwaukee into the discussion and thought the Brewers could make a play for him. But in way I think most people think (or this is my speculation) is that if Peavy is willing to waive his NTC to go to the playoff bound Cubs, then he might be willing to go to the Brewers team that made the playoffs too. Personally all this Peavy talk is speculative, because I don't see a team that matches up well with the Padres. Teams that Peavy are interested in either do not have the kind of prospects that Padres want (unless Towers changes what he is looking for) or don't have. And the teams the Padres are interested in trading with (Dodgers/Yankees/Red Sox/Angels) are either on Peavy's no trade list, or is on the Padres like hell we trade with you list. The closest team to being a leader for Peavy is the Braves, and contrary to popular belief I don't understand why they are interested. While the Braves are not the far behind the Phillies and the Mets they shouldn't be making any other big moves for the time being. If I was a Braves fan I would be scare to death to trade for Peavy today for a full value, and then trade him tomorrow for less the full value, ala Mark Teixeria. The Braves should be looking to move Chipper Jones, Mike Gonzalez etc,etc and do what they've always done, draft and developed young players. Making a play for Peavy now doesn't make the Braves a playoff caliber team, all he does is make them a .500 team. I know the buzz is Peavy will be dealt (prolly before the GM meetingss in December), but my gut feeling is that I doubt you'll see Peavy move this offseason because there won't be that one deal the Padres like for a team that the Padres and Peavy can agree upon. I understand why the Padres are trying to move Peavy (and it's a really stupid reason), but they shouldn't just trade a premium talent like Peavy just to cut payroll. The Padres already have a disinterested fanbase and they Padres do not have a Tony Gwynn type player to keep the fans coming to the park. My suggestion to the Padres is this: don't move Peavy just to move Peavy. If you can't get the RIGHT deal for Peavy don't trade him.
  11. IDK, Jay Cutler is one heck of a bodybuilder. One of the best in the business.
  12. I think MLBPA won't allow Fuku to accept a buyout for anything less then 75% of what is still owed to him. My guess is it would take closer to 80-85%, but for that kind of coin just keep him and see if he can rebound. If Matsui can play in NY, then Fuku can play in Chicago.
  13. If Bob does leave for the Brewers job, I demand Joe Carter be Brenly's replacement in the booth. (runs and hides behind a brick wall)
  14. Why start now? because now Jim knows it works. he was never quite sure before Ok, but I still think that's a foreign concept. Go over it, again...
  15. Oh, the hilarity of rotoworld knows no limits.
  16. The Chicago Cub Rays. New Colors are Yellow and Pink or The Chicago Devil Cubs. New colors are brown and green No, no, no....Just the drop the name Cubs and go with Chicago Devils would be just a-okay.
  17. Since Hendry loves to follow trends, I bet he gets Chicago NL franchise a new name and new team colors. Of course, I am half-joking....maybe
  18. TB and Florida have played in 8 total playoff series and are a combine 8-0 in those series. Teams they have beaten in this streak....Braves/Cubs/Red Sox and Yankees... Sighs
  19. I understand his decision was based on keeping the tying run out of scoring position, but I agree it was a stupid decision that if Crisp was a smart player, he would have slid to the base and not trying to take Bartlett out. Iwamura was bailed and lets see if Bradford can get out of the inning.
  20. I know his name has been branded about on this board, and I like him as a player, but apparently Rosenthal is reporting that atleast four teams have inquired about him. What would it take to get Hermida, knowing he's prolly available?
  21. Yet, I was hoping for a "Curse of the Manny Ramirez" and they don't win another WS for another 80 yrs.
  22. Agree. Going conservative in this kind of game would be epic stupid. Keep the pressure up.
  23. Of the major sports in NAmerica, the NHL clearly have the worst referees. I've seen too many BADLY missed calls all over the league in recent yrs.
