  1. Either Burnett or Lowe. I'd go real hard after Lowe regardless of what happens. I'm a big Lowe fan. So would I, but I think Lowe is likely to head to either New York or prolly Boston if the Red Sox wants him. Lowe will not be going back to Boston. It didn't work out too well for him the first time around. ? The entire time he was in Boston the writers and fans questioned his "mental toughness". He was sent to the bullpen for a time and was pretty pissed about. The fact that he won a WS ring doesn't change any of that. Yeah, well wouldn't you be pissed if you were sent to the bullpen? The bullpen used to be a place where you sent starters who couldn't hack it, and Lowe felt he could still start. So his time in pen was spent well, seeing as he had a 40 save season, and 81 saves iin 3 seasons.

It didn't work out too well for him the first time around. Pitched a no-hitter Won a World Series 2 time All Star Had both a 40 save season and a 20 win season 3rd in Cy Young in 2002 Productive pitcher for the Red Sox. He is very much still liked by both the team and the fans. So why wouldn't he want to go back to Boston?
  3. Remember what position he plays. Escobar: .288/.366/.401/.766 Theriot: .307 .387 .359 .745 Personally, I think Escobar is being overrated just a little bit in talks with the Padres. I mean he is a solid player with potential to get better, but the only thing he has on Theriot is he he hits for slightly more power. So while Escobar might be the best known player in the deal, IDK if I would call him (I prolly would be it wouldn't be without thought) the best talent being offer between the Cubs and the Braves. Even with Escobar in the deal IDK if there deal is more attract then the Cubs unless it included Tommy Hanson.

  5. Prolly not. The players that Beane used on Holliday are players who he sold high on (or reasonably high on) and players who ae likely not in the A's plan. He traded for Holliday for the purpose that his offense can help the team's offense which in terms can allow their pitching to developed quicker in 2009. If Beanes trades Holliday it will be at the deadline.
  6. Peavy to the Cubs talk has really only been hot for a week or so, it still has a few months to get on the Brian Roberts level. The weird thing about the Brian Roberts stuff. I didn't even really want him all that bad. It just got to the point were It felt like he was a Cub already, after months of rumors saying that it should happen any day. So I just wanted the deal done, and him to be offically on the team already, or the trade talks done. Peavy on the other hand is a pitcher who I really want. So I don't want this to end unless he ends up on the Cubs. Then again it start out slowly last yr. And technically the Cubs don't need Peavy, just like the Cubs didn't need Roberts last yr.
  7. Don't you think it's a bit early to be complaining about a lack of action? It's November 10th and we're talking about a top 5 pitcher. How long have the rumors even been around so far? 2 weeks? I think that's a bit different than a trade for a second baseman that went deep into spring training. Peavy situation is tricky in this way: If you get impatience you can possible burn your bridge--at least temporary and lose your chance at getting a top 5 pitcher, but if you are patience and become the Padres female dogs and wait, and wait, you could miss out on improving the team in other ways. I want Peavy on the Cubs so bad that the longer it doesn't happen the more the frustration starts to build. I just want it over....so that I can either be bummed about not getting Peavy, or super happy for getting him on the Cubs....
  8. It's good to know Peavy has replace Brian Roberts as this yrs "all talk, no action" move of the offseason. Any dibs as to who will be next yr's "will they or won't they" for the Cubs?
  9. Very underwhelming deal for both Willingham and Olsen, it makes me wonder what will it take to get Hermida?
  10. O Captain, my captain...... Toews will the goal.....
  11. IMO, I don't think the Peavy to the Braves deal is as close as Churchill is claiming. I think this is Churchill trying to excite Braves fans into buying the newpaper that has his article. What article? He didn't write that on a website.... he e-mailed it to me because I ask him about Cubs stuff a lot. Anyways, if that was his motive wouldn't he want to excite Cubs fans instead of Braves fans? Which proves my post in that what he wrote to you is pure rumor and can't really substantiate it and was just giving you an opinion based on what is already out there. So unless Churchill works for the Braves or have a source inside the organization ( ) all he is doing is reciting his own opinion. Where did I say it wasn't rumor? Of course it's rumor. It's not just his opinion though, he has a contact in the Cubs FO (which is why I e-mail him in the first place) and he has e-mailed me things h'es heard in the past before I read it anywhere else and has been right. He's not just guessing or sharing his opinions. You can be skeptical of how reliable his info is, but he def. hears it from someone. The fact that Olney just said the Braves and Pads have made progress coupled with what Churchill told me leads me to believe that there's probably some truth to it. Obviously it's just rumors at this point, so there's no need for the eye rolling. Well, until the Peavy deal gets done everything is conjuncture regardless of who you know and who they know. Churchill may have somebody in the Cubs FA, but unless that source is Hendry himself then he isn't 100% privy to what is inside Hendry head. Anyways, let see the Peavy talks play out. I still think the Cubs are favorites, only because the Braves won't include Hanson in the trade.
  12. I agree with this point. After such a deflating October for Hendry to go after Peavy only to lose him to the Braves (the freaking Braves) is nothing but negative. To top that off by having to overpay Dempster to get him to stay, you're right dexter, there is nothing positive about this situation other then getting Peavy. This would be similar to the hottest girl in school flirting with you and as she leans in to kiss you, she pulls back and just laughs at you. The Cubs would have been better off not getting into the bidding for Peavy.

  14. I personal think it's all rumor at this point. To say, "Peavy to Atlanta is pretty darn close" might have some truth to it, the reality is Peavy can still reject the trade. Churchill is correct that the Cubs (Cards/Astros don't count because they've been out since the beginning) can't match/come close to matching the Braves offer only if they offer includes Tommy Hanson and/pr Heyward. Any deal that doesn't include either one of those two the Cubs can match, IMO. I think it comes down to who Peavy sees as a team that is closer to being a contender. Personally, as many have said in this thread the Braves are still several MAJOR question marks such as starting pitching--outside of perhaps Peavy and Jurrjens, relief pitching, OF production, Jones healthy and Bobby Cox. Peavy may look at the Braves chances (they are clearly behind the Mets/Phillies even if Peavy is on the Braves) and look at the Cubs chances and tell Towers that the Cubs are the team he wants to go to. IMO, I don't think the Peavy to the Braves deal is as close as Churchill is claiming. I think this is Churchill trying to excite Braves fans into buying the newpaper that has his article.
  15. What can we say...we're masochists.
  16. I know it's late, but on Brad Maynard.....According to Bob LeGere of the Dailyherald believes Maynard is having his best season ever. Anybody disagree?
  17. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3691653&name=olney_buster I might have to take some time off from following the Cubs if Gorkys hernandez is a deal maker. :banghead: Hernandez won't be the deal breaker, Yunel Escobar will be. It is the belief that Peavy won't accept a trade to the Braves if Escobar is included. I don't know if Peavy has said that, but it is out there. Personally, I think Peavy is trying to get himself traded to the Cubs, but the Padres like the Braves prospects better.
  18. Am I the only one who thinks this "Major League Baseball source" is no other then Jerry Reinsdorf or somebody in Reinsdorf camp? Dorf has the most to lose if Cuban is allow to become owner of the Cubs. Not only would he have to deal with Cuban in NBA related matters, butalso MLB related matters. Regardless of what they say publicly you know Reinsdorf doesn't want Cuban anywhere near baseball much less Chicago. Maybe it's the paranoia in me, but it definately would fit with Reinsdorf train of thought.
  19. What a crappy first half of the Alabama/LSU game. Typcial SEC game: ugly and brutal. The fact that the game is tied, even tho Alabama played it's worst half of the season gives me hope they will put an end to this charade and win this game comfortably. TY Rashard Johnson.
  20. Here, here. If we can get Dusty Baker as the "pitching coach" of the Brewers, we will be all set.
  21. The only way LSU is going to stay in the game against Alabama is if they illegally hold Cody and/or tackle him to the ground. OK, ok, cheating SOB....
  22. I will concide for this yr anyways that the SEC isn't as good as he has been. Losing to Wyoming is like losing to a Big 10 team. Embarrassing.
  23. I disagree about Reyes. I didn't see anything that warrants him having good upside. Not to mention when was the last time the Braves developed a homegrown pitching talent (they acquire via UNFA, draft, anything but tradeS) and kept them? Millwood? Glavine? Chuck James? Andrew Lerew? I think teams are still leary about question Braves pitchng prospects. Because of Schmidt--pre injury, Wainwright, and Millwood, no other great prospect from the Braves gone off to stardom. So, teams aren't quick to acquire LH prospects from the Braves, thus IMO, Reyes doesn't have much value in trade talks. That why Marshall has more value, because he's soon he can pitch at the major league level. IMO, Reyes is a non-factor in talks. IMO, Reyes would be a throw-in in this deal, and not main piece. If Reyes is a throw-in, so is Sean Marshall. Nope.. Marshall has put ERA+ of 116 and 119 the last two yrs. Reyes has put up ERA+ of 69 and 72 the last two yrs. Granted Reyes is in a smaller sample size then Marshall. 3.40/1.23 .v. 2.69/1.13 (ERA and whip) these are the career numbers in the minors of Jo Reyes and Sean Marshall respectively. Even in the minors, Marshall has been the better pitcher in few innings, mind you. Reyes may have higher upside, but Marshall--RIGHT NOW---is clearly a better pitcher then Reyes thus more value. Just because Marshall has had more success doesn't mean he has more value. I've already said that personally, I'd prefer Marshall based on his success, but Reyes has better "stuff" even if he hasn't turned that into major league success. Reyes is also younger. In regards to who has more value depends on what a team wants. Marshall has proven he can pitch in the majors and has more experience. To some that may make him more valuable. On the other hand, Reyes has a higher ceiling, but hasn't reached it. If both players reach their ceiling, Reyes will be the better pitcher. Fair enough point. But name the last Braves homegrown talent to reach his ceiling while with the Braves? Kevin Millwood? Chuck James? Horatio Ramirez? Glavine? That's at least 4 since 1990, to me not a good thing. Since the end of the Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz era, the Braves have used free agency/scouting (ie for guys like Campillo) and trades (most) to fill their rotation (Hampton/Hudson/Jurrjens, etc, etc) So that tells me that the Braves don't value their pitching prospects as highly as they once did. I'm just going by what Towers has said he prefers in a Peavy trade. He wants major league ready pitching and players. Sean Marshall is major league ready, and Jo Jo Reyes, we don't know. In this case Marshall has more value to the Padres because of his success thus far, then Jo Jo Reyes. Jo Jo would prolly be a better pick up for a team like the Marlins (for Olsen) who don't always need a pitcher/player to be to contribute immediately. They can take their time with Reyes.
  24. no, imb actually spells things properly and uses punctuation. W/E man. Just for you and IMB, I ain't no 'GLish major and I don't ned ewe twe bee preachin' aboot me Glish' pronunseeactchun. Eye geet bye espeecially on the screets. Soo no ned to be hatin' juss cause somebodee desn't proof reed hes posst before he submets itt to the board. Glish hass always been a prob for the lekes on me. Now I can use proper pronunciation, spell things correctly, and speak like an educated man if I wanted too, and maybe I should. The reason is simple laziness. I dont proof read what I post, and it looks like I am uneducated (and it's a mistake if you think I am) but if it makes you and IMB feel better then I will. What say you, boss? :hello:
