  1. I not afraid to say it....Rose will be better then both Paul and Williams. Rose is already bigger and stronger then Paul, and faster and more athlethic then Deron Williams. So yes, I do think Rose will eventually be better then both Paul and Williams.
  2. Marmol is much more valuable working in the flexible set-up role. I agree that Marmol is better suited for the flexible set-up role, but I think the Cubs are going to make him the closer with Gregg as set up.
  3. Even if Gregg is kept he wouldn't be the closer. I see Gregg replacing Howry on the roster. And who replaces Wood? That the million dollar question, isn't it? Not in my mind, it isn't. Because I don't see Gregg as a replacement for Howry. He sure won't be the closer, not with Marmol on the roster.

  6. IDK if Wood would go to the Mets. It wouldn't surprise me if the Angels swooped in and picked up Wood.
  7. Exactly. If Ceda had potential to start then this is a bad trade, but I see this as the Cubs trading future Kevin Gregg type reliever for the present Kevin Gregg. The only thing that sucks is the cost, but that offset by him becoming a FA after next season. So I don't know why people are upset about Ceda/Gregg deal, it's a blah deal no doubt. So you are OK with trading 6 years of controlable extremely low average cost Kevin Gregg for 1 year of somehwat costly Kevin Gregg? If so, then if you give me 6 $20 bills, I'll give you a one crisp $20 bill. If it turns out that the 6 $20 bills turn out to be fake money, then me getting one $20 would be a steal. We traded a relief prospect for a reliever who I still think Hendry could still flip. Just because he was the Cubs 4th best prospect, doesn't mean he has that kind of value.

  9. Donnie, I really want to believe you man. What did your sources tell you then? Really nothing beyond "Jake wants to be in Chicago" and "Atlanta isn't going to happen". I have more to say, but the more I think about it the more it could hurt the Cubs chances of getting him. I'm a Cubs fan first and foremost so I will not risk reducing the Cubs chances of getting one of the best pitchers in MLB just to improve my credibility with the board as a whole. Hey Donnie, not to get too cyncial, too harsh, but how come you only post very late at night, and not during the day?
  10. You know he has like 100 posts in like 5 years, right? I'm not saying I believe him, but he's rarely on here anyways and when he posts it's been late at night, so I'm not sure what your point is. My point? Those who ignore history are condemned to repeat it. I don't see anybody ignoring it. Most, including myself, are definately taking Donnie with a grain of salt. Prolly less.
  11. Sabean, I double dog dare you to sign Bob Howry on Friday.....What are ya, chicken?
  12. Guilty as charge. Every time I leave I hope when I get back there are significant (more the 10 pages) pages added to the thread, but alas maybe one or two pages is added. Oh well.
  13. derrick rose is a prayer. i was about to disagree with you but i started going through the other true PGs in the league and you might be right. Those are certainly the only two i'd take over him going forward. In two yrs, I don't know if I would take either Paul or Williams over Rose.
  14. I definately not falling for this. I've learned my lesson with the Brian Roberts saga. I want it to happen, make no mistake, I'm not going to get excited until I see Peavy holding up a Cubs hold jersey with Piniella and Hendry surrounds him at a press conference. Until then, I will remain neutral.
  15. No, I didn't ask again as I really wasn't in a position to. We really just had a 15 second conversation today, hopefully I will get a chance to get more in depth tomorrow. Donnie, no offense, but colour me cyncial. You may very well be telling the truth, and I want to believe you, but the inner Cub fan in me tells me not to without proof. So I hope you are no offended by this. I will say this: if you and your source is correct and it happens I will glady eat crow. Well, stranger things have happened. I remember we had a random poster swear to us that Zambrano had just been extended and everyone wrote him off (and I think the thread might have been locked), and it ended up happening the next morning. I just don't want to get my hopes up and get them crushed when/if it doesn't happen.

  17. If the Braves offer is so much greater than the Cubs why isn't a done deal? I think the Cubs can compete with any offer from the Braves unless they offer up some of their top prospects (Hanson). If the general feeling is that the Braves can overwhelm a Cubs offer, the you have to think the Padres/Cubs/Third Team? are trying to get something worked out. Maybe with news now that Grienke may be out in Kansas City there could be a deal getting him to San Diego? I agree. So either the Braves offer isn't as good as what has been reported (meaning no Escobar or Hanson), or Peavy is specifically asking Towers to trade him to the Cubs and Towers is using the Braves to up the offer from the Cubs. Or he wants to get another player from the braves If it not Hanson/Schafer/Heyward then why haven't the Braves included the player (I would assume Locke is a choice)? So while that may be a scenerio, ryan, I doubt it is what keeping the Braves from getting Peavy. Maybe because the braves dont think they have to? Then I suggest the Braves remove themselves from the table. Cause if they are not willing to pay up for a pitcher like Peavy then they shouldn't get him. Not to mention if the Braves think that then they won't get Peavy.
  18. Yet he is still better then Tyrus "Too Stupid" Thomas. I feel bad for Derrick Rose. He has to be playmaker, scorer and leader on this collection of goober crap and uggos.

  21. Never underestimate the power of home. Despite everything coming out of the Peavy camp, the Braves have a much better shot than we think they do because of their proximity to his home. Some people can pack up and leave and never look back, others like to stay close to one place for as long as they can. Maybe Peavy is just one of those guys. What's hurt the Braves chances is that I believe I read somewhere/heard somewhere that Peavy doesn't want to up and move his family from San Diego. And that could be an overwhelming factor considering the Cubs have spring training in Arizona, and the Braves in Florida. I usually do buy into the 'power of playing at home', but I just don't think that is a strong factor in this case.
  22. IDK about Escobar being an AS type SS. He certainly got the skills, but the NL is abosulely loaded at SS with guys like Rollins/Reyes/Ramirez(unless he moves to CF)/Furcal(when healthy)/Stephen Drew/Tulowitzki. All of those guys either have the ability to be play in the all star game, or is already an All Star. So while he has the ability, he would have to stand out from the pact to get to the AS game.
  23. Prolly, if the Cubs were rebuilding, which they are not. Vitters is the type or prospect you hold onto if you think he's the future, or if a superstar player/pitcher becomes available. Seeing as Peavy is one of the few players I would trade Vitters for I would say it would worth dealing Vitters. Especially considering that Peavy has what 3-4 yrs left on his contract. Well worth the only Grade B or higher prospect left i the org.
  24. I can't speak for "everyone", but I'm perfectly fine with it. I know I would be cool with it.
