this is really mind boggling. alabama was ahead 31-0 at halftime, but because georgia spent all second half piling up yardage through the air and scored a bunch of points that were next to meaningless, while alabama was just chewing up time by running the ball. anyone with any sort of sense would say that alabama carried the play in that game, but according to you it was basically a coin toss. that is just a terrible understanding of everything. Yes. While the score said 41-30, the game was not as close as the score may have indicated. There was a BADLY miss call on the punt return (there were two block in the back on the punt return that were not called, and the SEC admitted to the mistake) and the other two scores came withint 5 or so minutes left in the game. Anybody who saw the game knows Alabama whupped GA. So yeah, Meph doesn't have a leg to stand on in this case. GA was simply outplayed by Alabama regardless of the score.

You all know who you are. i i was looking at old threads on desipio the other day for some reason and there was a really good one where people were like "WE ROSTERED THAT WORTHLESS IDIOT GEOVANY SOTO AND LET ANDY SISCO GO???!?!??!?" That was a bad move. Sisco's perceived value at the time was extremely high. If they weren't going to roster him, they should have traded him before the R5 draft came around. They could have built a heck of a package for a really good player around him. At the time, Soto wasn't MLB ready, and wouldn't have stuck with anyone. No one else in the league had high perceptions of him either at the time. Obviously, in the long term, Soto was the right keeper choice, but that move shouldn't be evaluated as if Hendry only had two options at the time: keep Soto and let Sisco go for nothing, or keep Sisco and let Soto go for nothing. He could have gotten value back on Sisco and kept Soto, or he could have kept both. I think the perceive value of a player, causes fans to overrate these guys. Personally I was upset when they let Sisco go for nothing. But I don't think Hendry is an idiot or most Gm's are in this situation. We as fans think we know how valueable these players are, but the GM's know how valueable these guys are. I'm sure months before Hendry even allowed Sisco to be in the rule 5 draft, he tried to trade him for something worth wide. I think he's in a simliar situation with Donald Veal this offseason. Too me it would seem like Veal would have some value still, since he was a high thought of prospect just a few years ago and still has good stuff. But I'm sure by now Hendry has shopped Veal name around alot, and knows he probably can't get anything of good value in return for him. So it's then up to a GM to decide, do I keep this guy on the roster. Even though he is probably less likely to make it to the majors then others, even though he has more upside? Do I just trade him for whatever I can get for him? Or do I take my chances he either won't get drafted or won't stick on a major league roster next year, and I have him back? In the Soto/Sisco(I know those weren't the only options) situation it worked out good. Just imagine if we let Soto go in the Rule 5, and some team decided to keep him as a cheap back up catcher for a year. Soto being ROY on another team, and the Cubs not making the playoffs this year(Soto not on the team would have made it alot tougher), could have caused Hendry to lose his job. Thats why sometimes with trade and other things us fans should sometimes just wait and see, before we start to chew out the GM. is this redflash in disguise? Nah, way too coherent. :read: :old_givebeer:

You really think they'll be favored over Bama? The Tide is returning quite a few great young players as well. I'd favor Bama by a little, if Nick Saban is still there next year. Yeah, Alabama should be favored to win the West next yr, even tho it wouldn't surprise me if Ole Miss gives Bama all they can handle for the division title next yr. Nick Saban is at Alabama till he retires. There's not a better job out there, (yes I said it, there are not better jobs. There might be equal jobs, but no better jobs out there) that is open. Nick Saban is at Alabama till atleast 2015. You can write that down now.

08-09' Blackhawks (46-24-12) 104 PTS - 4th Seed In The West!
RedFlash replied to Cynosure's topic in Other Sports
Oops. Okay, yeah, they have Crawford in the AHL. I think he'd be a more than passable backup at this point. Yep. If a goalie is dealt---highly unlikely unless it's an offer that cannot be refused---then my money is on Niemi getting the call up over Crawford. To me Niemi was the reason why signig Huet was a mistake. -

What's being branded about---and depending on who you ask, is that how close it is to happening---is now Buff and Sopel to Washington for Nylander. -
4/15 - Bulls (41-40) vs. Toronto (32-49) - 7 pm, CSN

Dear Bulls; You see what happens when you go extremely cheap on your coaching search? You see what happens when you put most of your eggs into the basket of one crappy roster? You have gotten burn. This roster, sans Rose, is an embarrassment. -

This bad team, sans Rose, completely sucks. Regardless of toughness of schedule and their current record, this Bulls team completely stinks. -

Two turnovers on the first two possessions, and two three uncontested three pointers. Good to know the Bulls haven't changed one bit. -
Micah wouldn't be the worst LH portion of a platoon at first, and I definately like him as a backup who gives the starter a breather every 10-15 games, but as a starter.....no. If the Cubs trade Lee they had BETTER have a 1st baseman lined up to take over, say a certain former Reds/DBacks slugger. (Note: the Cubs won't be players for Tex hence the reason I went to possibly the 2nd best 1st base option on the market.) Adam Dunn is a much better defender in the outfield than he is at first base. Let us pause momentarily to consider the sheer magnitude of that statement. I understand that, but my point was if the Cubs were to trade Lee that have to replace Lee with an significant upgrade with the bat, and that isn't Hoffpauir. Which means it is doubt Lee gets dealt this offseason, and we have to hope Lee can rebound in 2009.

My only guess would be is that the Cubs are planning to trade Veal long before the Rule V (or 5, whichever it is) draft. Then the other team would have to roster him or risk losing a guy they just acquired. The only way this would affect Veal being traded is that if he's traded before the draft, he'll be included as a PTBNL based on whether he gets taken or not. The other reason for not rostering Veal is this: the Cubs do not view Veal as a future major leaguer and they don't value him as much as they once did.

Seriously? Jason Caffey? Dickey Simpkins? Corey Benjamin? Dalibor Bagaric? Considering who were still on the board during each yr those players were drafted, I wouldn't lose sleep over those crappy players. The only one that hurt was Jason Caffey, and that is only because of who was drafted right behind him, Michael Finley. But considering where those guys who were pick it's no surprise that they stunk. Right now Noah could be worse then those guys (how was this guy ever considered a #1 pick overal, I'll never understand) simply based on where he was drafted; lottery .v. early to late 20's pick. -

Oh no, the spelling police got me... RAMIREZ Didn't I say "just for kicks", I'm just throwing out some possibilities of getting Hoffpauir's LH bat in the line up by getting rid of Lee. Ichiro is a long shot I'm sure, but stranger things have happened. I'm not in favor of Hoffpauir in a starting role. If he is in a platoon that's fine, but Hoffpauir is not a starter, imo. So if the Cubs are going to trade Lee they better have a 1st baseman lined up to replace him. -
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3709231&name=gammons_peter Losing Ceda doesn't hurt the Cubs chances all that much to be honest. Besides how much value does a relief prospect truly have? I just don't get how some people think losing Ceda matter all that much? If the Padres were asking for a middle relief prospect in a deal for Peavy then they truly don't value Peavy at all. One more thing if the Padres truly were asking for Ceda in any deal then why did the Cubs trade him to the Marlins? My opinion is the Padres/Cubs never discussed Ceda in any deal, or the Cubs would have kept Ceda. So again, I don't see losing Ceda hurts as much as some think.

Yeah, but Portland is extremely high on Fernandez and doubtful he would be available. Yeah, I know. I don't know why they would trade Fernandez, but have to trade something to get something. I'd be willing to throw in Deng after 12/15 and take back Pryzbilla and Diogu (other big contracts of non-core players) if needed. Unfortunately Deng is basically untradeable. Due to his contract extension, Deng is a BYC player which makes trading Deng is virtually impossible seeing as the Bulls could only take about a certain amount in return. So Deng is untouchable this yr. -

Perhaps I'm too optimistic, but I don't see this trip as being as bad as most years when they hit up CAL-EDM-VAN over Thanksgiving. Basically, it's two three-game trips. They'll go home after Toronto on Saturday for a few days before heading to San Jose. As Foley said the other night in his best line of the new season, "it'll give us a chance to change our underwear." Obviously, winning tonight's game against a not-so-good Phoenix team will be big. Phoenix is pretty good, actually. they're very talented, at the very least. there isn't a really bad team in the west right now except for St. Louis, and the Blues are only bad because they have like 55 guys on the IR right now. I agree. I really like PHX and they have two outstanding young talents in Mueller and Turris who both should be big time stars possibly in the same realm as Kane and Toews. So this game is definately going to be a tough one for the Hawks, but perhaps an exciting game that feature what could be four of the best young players in the game today. -

I could see Toronto making a play for Marquis. This will lose AJ Burnett, they'll likely to miss out on Dempster, and the other major free agents have no intentions of going to Toronto. So I could see Toronto be interested in Jason Marquis (even tho I think Brad Penn would be a decent buy low possibility). The Mets could be another team interested in Marquis especially if they don't bring back Pedro or Perez and strike out on the free agency market I could see Cleveland being interested if they don't like how their pitchers behind Lee and Carmona are developing. There not a contender, but I could see Baltimore (and no this would be separate from the O's player we would like) being interested in Marquis to fill out their rotation. So depending on how the FA market shapes out, there could be some decent options for Marquis.
