  1. The chances of this being of any consequence are quite small. If possible, I think he has had a tendency to be overrated just due to the fact he has been hurt so much. Everyone loves the potential and promise, but if it hasn't happened by now, chances are it just isn't going to.
  2. I don't really care if it was "approved" or not. That was the moment IU fans have been anticipating for 4 years. I still think they will have some ups and downs this year, but that was a great moment. It was the first time in I can't remember how long I yelled out in a positive way while watching an IU game. Any win against UK is huge, let alone when they are ranked #1. And to think IU loses just Jones and Danny freakin Moore next season while bringing in loads of talent.
  3. Is it ok yet for me to assume that IU will make the tournament? I hope UK wins every game the rest of the year.
  4. They stormed after beating us last year when we were like 24th in the country. Get off it. If there is ever a justification for rushing the court that most certainly was it. A 3 at the buzzer to beat #1? I'm sure Purdue and Illinois fans would have just politely applauded on the way out to their cars. Haha, we don't have FIVE BANNERS. Neither do these kids, or anybody related to the program. Trust me, I'm not one of those banner referencing fans. What just happened would be the samein any college arena. Last second buzzer beater to beat #1.

  6. Joel Sherman says a person familiar with the Pujols talks says Cubs are definitely in it...
  7. Exactly. I fought that battle a few times when suggesting Dunn wasn't the best allocation of resources.
  8. Got Gordon? Heh... Don't have the energy to get into that again.
  9. Been waiting a while to watch IU be relevant again
  10. Butler lost to a D3 school recently. Which I why I said I don't think they are all that good. I really don't know what to make of IU. I think they are definitely improved, but withholding any judgment until they play better teams on a more regular basis.
  11. IU with a somewhat sloppy win over Butler by 16. Not sure Butler is all that good anyway, but I think it was probably a big game mentally for Indiana. Curious to see how they play Wednesday night at NC State.
  12. Cheating for power is when you are sitting/looking for the fastball and open up early in order to make solid contact. When you guess right you can really connect and drive the ball. Problem is if you develop a reputation for doing that you aren't likely to see a lot of fastballs. Also, when you guess wrong it does not often lead to the best results. Some guys can do it, but you are sacrificing a lot by doing so.
  13. I have no real opinion on LaHair, but there are lots of factors higher on the priority list that will determine the outcome of the 2012 season. Tim, I know you have been adamant about not giving up on 2012. I don't want the Cubs to do that either, but I also don't think this will be a very good team. Obviously a lot of that will be determined based on what they do this winter, but if they don't get a Pujols or Fielder, and decide to upgrade elsewhere, it's possible LaHair may be given a chance of some sort. I don't want him as the starter based on what he did at AAA. If they can make significant upgrades at other positions it might be doable. Obviously hard to say without knowing the direction of the team this offseason.
  14. I think a SP is a must as well. There is no way Cashner can be counted on to be in the rotation after missing basically the entire season. He is probably going to be on some sort of innings limit, and if he was in the rotation, he won't be the entire year. I think you are likely to see him in a relief role with a chance at starting in 2013.
  15. One of the latest articles at BP mentioned Lake and the fact that many scouts feel his future would be best suited on the mound and this hot streak in the AFL is delaying that potential development.
  16. From Goldstein's latest Future Shock:

  18. Here is a link to a podcast interview with Coppolella from the BP podcast. This is an old edition from January. I don't think you should have any worries about confusing him for Wasserstrom Tim. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=12790
  19. I'm totally with you on that comparison. Pierre left a bad taste in everyone's mouth around here. But, if Szczur tuns out to be similar to Pierre with just average power, that is a success.
  20. While I'm not going to pull a Law and bash the guy, I have doubts myself about Szczur. I hope against hope that he turns into a good player down the road. Maybe there is something to him getting fatigued at this point in the year. Its fun to bash Law and his opinions, but if that is his honest assessment of Szczur's capabilities, time well tell how wrong or right he was. I know BA has been super high on Szczur, and Law is obviously the other end of that spectrum. We all want him to be good, but as is often the case, it is easy to over hype your own and overlook some negatives.
  21. Law has been sticking to that for a while now on Maples. He is obviously hearing things too. At least we will have an answer soon.
  22. Again, none of that flew with Bradley. It's not going to fly here. Zambrano is going to be ripped to shreds, but so is Quade, Hendry and the rest of the organization. I dont know you may be right, and if so hopefully its just another step out the door for Hendry. Wasn't the Z deal relatively praised at the time? That is the inherent risk you take with all contracts. Sometimes what seems to be a good deal turns out to be the exact opposite.
  23. His trade value is nonexistant.
  24. What a bizarre response. Well, it is a convenient way to tear up that contract.
